Birds

May 22, 2021 at 10:06 am by Claudia

While we were mowing yesterday, Don carefully held his phone over the nest and took a picture. Three beautiful eggs! No wonder they’re so protective of that nest!

Isn’t that the most beautiful shade of blue?

And we watched a pair of goldfinches dine on dandelion seed heads.

Later, I watched a catbird take a bath.

This morning, while Don was taking a walk, I walked around the property listening to a symphony of birdsong and watched the wren fly to the nest, worm in mouth.

It’s my favorite time of year.

Another gorgeous day lies ahead – though hot. We installed the window a/c unit in the bedroom, so our sleep last night was quite comfortable. We’ll install the downstairs unit sometime this weekend.

In the meantime, Don has some business to take care of concerning the new car before we head to the DMV on Monday. I’m going to paint this morning before I take care of some chores later in the day.

(Written with one finger on my iPad.)

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

what a great start to the day … glad you could hear and see the birds (and three eggs)! glad for you.

thanks for the lovely photos. you and don were there at just the right time!

glad you have at least one air conditioner installed … sounds needed.

in big contrast to the past couple of extra-awful days (and horrid 14+ months), i am so ready for today! did the grocery shopping and deliveries last night so today (in clean clothes) i get to sit inside with members of my family and hug them all day long!!!! crying just thinking about it … :)

hope your day gets even better, too.

        hej, melanie m …

thank you very much. it was wonderful to hug members of my family, sit with them and visit in person (not over the phone). happened again today. :) i pray that will soon happen every day for all of my family and me, for you and your family, for everyone around the world.

hope you are having a nice weekend with your loved ones and stay safe.

        thanks again.

        thank you, claudia.

i did enjoy it! i was able to make lunch that we ate together (without me being in my car outside) for the first time in 421 days. :) and we talked for hours, no cellphone needed. lots of hugs, of course. and some tears. same today. :)

i do not yet feel comfortable going inside my family members’ homes, no mask, etc. directly from work/grocery shopping for having been around so many people, some likely not vaccinated and possibly someone sick. will see how things go.

thanks again, claudia. two happier days … and, as i said to melanie, i pray for that for everyone.

hope you are having a good day, enjoying nice weather, time on the porch and more paint studies!

I saw the secret garden video on IG. I love listening to the birds too.
We always have bluebirds in one of our bird houses but so far haven’t seen a single bluebird. Seems odd. I wonder where they are?
Exciting news…you bought the car! It’s so nice to have a dependable vehicle.
    Have fun painting!

We only see bluebirds here in the winter, unfortunately.

Painting was a bit frustrating, but I’ll hang in there, Marilyn.

      Stay safe.

Wos, those exquisite eggs. Nature is in full glory at Mockingbird Hill cottage. Would love to have those colors somewhere in my home. I am extremely tired today but look forward to the sunshine. It seems that I am out of shape from all the months of relatively little physical activity. Now that we purchased the sailboat I am trying to make it pretty inside without adding any clutter. Almost impossible. I like to feather my nest also. I am married to a man who is a minimalist…function over form. Maybe I can sneak some pillows and towels aboard. He races every week and wants to keep the boat as light as possible….so whatever I bring on I must take off. Any suggestions?

I have those colors everywhere in my home!

Same here. Way out of shape. It’s getting better, though.

No suggestions, unfortunately, but have fun!

Oh, I love birds! Also anything having to do with them—eggs, nests, feathers, birdsong—everything. I once had a friend who was terrified of birds. I’ve never been able to fathom that. Even Daphne du Marier couldn’t talk me out of it! Hope we have some at the lake this summer. Well, I guess the birds will be there, so I really hope that we will be, too. Happy Saturday!

Happy weekend. It’s warm here today, too.

Thank you for your cheery one-fingered notes today. It is indeed a beautiful time of year. Thanks for enduring the iPad.

TG for A/C – I see it’s getting the way it gets in your neighborhood (over-the-border CT daughter mentioned it today). Wish we could have more rain/fog & no fires.

    Beautiful eggs & birds

The robin’s egg colour is exquisite, isn’t it. I found a tiny empty shell at the bottom of my rain spout a couple of weeks ago so I’m hoping baby robin managed to fly the nest!
Please send some of that heat across the pond, May has rained most days but it’s so chilly too, temperatures barely in the 50s.
It’s the annual Eurovision Song Contest tonight whereby countries send a representative singer/group with an original song, it’s broadcast throughout Europe, goes on for hours and then we all vote for a country other than our own.
It’s hilarious, there’s no impartiality with countries voting for their nearest neighbours and hardly anyone votes for the UK. We could have the best song on the planet (we usually don’t😀) and still we nearly always come last! There have been some great moments too. When Ireland hosted, Riverdance was shown for the first time as the interval entertainment and became a global sensation. The most famous song was from the late fifties, the Italian entry most commonly known as ‘Volare’ and covered by Dean Martin.

    Happy Saturday

Claudia, your post was beautiful this morning. I love the blue eggs, and finch, and cat bird in the bath. I was so happy seeing those images that I put down my laundry basket and sat on the steps of my back porch to watch the birds awhile! Thanks for the photos!

I have a can of robin’s-egg-blue sample paint that has been used on everything from Jenny Lind beds to toddler chairs. Such a gorgeous color…but never better than as the original inspiration in a nest!

Enjoy your feathered friends as they raise their families. Our Stellar’s jays are loving our pond and our yard. I just wish I could locate their nest so I could enjoy their babies. We hear the chickadees, but from a distance. It’s such a wondrous time of year!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
