Blooming and Barking

June 19, 2013 at 10:41 am by Claudia

I have two posts up today. Scroll down for my book review of the mystery Restrike or click here.

Since it’s garden time here at the cottage, you know I have to share some pretty pictures with you.

Was there ever anything prettier? This particular bloom is on the smaller New Dawn rosebush I bought at the end of the season last year. It’s nestled between boxwoods in the bed that is in front of the house.

Those buds that were poking their way through the openings on the porch railing have started to bloom.

Gosh darn it, I planted a bunch of seeds 3 weeks ago and …. nothing. What the heck? I think I will have to go out and buy some more. I was so proud of myself for planting them earlier this year. Ah, well.

Lastly, the girl barking.

Looking very much like her wolf relatives.

I have a phone conference later this afternoon with the director I met with in NYC on Monday, though I’d rather be outside. It’s gloriously sunny out there.

Happy Wednesday.

Love the buds coming through the railing. Pretty!

No sun here. Rain, rain, rain, rain, dark clouds, gloomy weather. But our garden has never looked better!! Monday we are supposed to have blue skies with a high of 24. Can’t wait!!

I think all the rain we had really contributed to this lush garden. Even though it’s a pain, it DOES pay off!

I’ve always enjoyed seeing your gardens. Everything is so green and pretty. Even though we moved to the mountains – it is still dry – and the rabbits and squirrels and gophers eat everything. I dream of GREEN! And, your dog howling is a hoot!

I never, ever seem to have luck with seeds. Except for zinnias. And I have them in big galvanized tubs. I planted a bunch of other seeds, and nothing came up. I had very good luck with hyacinth bean vine seeds. Ordered them from an heirloom place online.

I have hyacinth bean seeds that I collected from my vines of last year. Zinnias are usually dependable, but I don’t know – maybe all the rain we got washed them away?

    Dear Claudia —

I only read a couple of blogs every day…yours is always the first I go to….the beautiful, soothing calms that comes from your pictures and your words are a balm to me…I especially like it when you put in pictures of your precious Scout…she looks like she is singing in your post today! Love it. She is a beautiful girl!!

Our seeds are just coming up…my granddaughters (ages 3 and 22 months) and I planted veggie and flower seeds recently…the morning glories we planted back in April are quite big now. We planted veggies that I always found fun to grow as a child – carrots, radishes, beans, tomatoes, peppers, corn, squash and pumpkin. We are hoping their pumpkin seeds will produce 2 fine pumpkins for them to put their names on and then to enjoy in the fall as they ripen and are ready to be picked.

I love the way that the granddaughters run to look at their plants, and water with their little watering cans when they come over. They run their little hands over the tops of the plants so gently and smile with such pride. Our oldest granddaughter’s favorite plant is the Lambs Ear…she always gets the most beautiful look on her face as she ‘pets’ her Lambs Ear and says ‘soft’. Our girl is Autistic, just recently diagnosed this past January – so she holds an extra special place in our hearts….

Seeing your beautiful roses has made me decide to take the girls to the nursery one weekend and let them choose a smaller variety of rose plant (hopefully I can find a couple of varieties that do not produce so many thorns).

I am not too very knowledgeable on how to share a photo link up…if I did, I would share a picture of them with you!

I hope your day there continues to be a beautiful one (unfortunately, right now we have a dust storm in progress here in West Texas) but, there is still beauty to be found, even in erratic weather! :)

Hugs to you…and Hugs to your Scout!

    Laura

What a lovely comment, Laura. Thank you. Your relationship with your granddaughters is just as it should be. Exploring gardening with Grandma, learning about seeds and flowers. How wonderful! xoxo

Your flowers are lovely indeed. The first purple one (from the hanging basket) should be printed out and framed!!!! Great composition on the shot!!!
Scout looks to be a wise old soul. Wish I could give her a hug.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
