Blossoms, Batteries, And Blythes

April 15, 2022 at 9:09 am by Claudia

The crabapple tree by the catalpa has flower buds! Frankly, it might have taken me a while to notice this, but I happened to be standing in that area because Don’s car wouldn’t start, which necessitated a call to our road service/Geico, which resulted in the discovery that the connection to the battery was loose. The battery was jumped, then Don stopped off at a local place to have the charge/battery checked, and it was discovered that it needed to be replaced. An unexpected money outlay, but essential.

So that’s why I was hanging out near the tree. I love these blossoms, by the way, with their tinge of pink and green and cream – perfection.

It was unseasonably hot yesterday and we were sort of grumbly about it, but later in the afternoon, the wind kicked up and the clouds darkened and we had some thunderstorms. The temperature has now dropped to the more seasonable 60s. It’s sunny right now.

I ventured out for a little walk yesterday with Sophie. She wanted to see the daffodils.

I call this “Free Spirit.”

I succumbed to this Blythe obsession last October and almost immediately, I left for six weeks in Brooklyn, so I haven’t really had the chance to explore the outdoors with the girls. I’m looking forward to watching them explore the property and – who knows? – go on a few jaunts with us.

Those sneakers were on Olivia when she came to me in the mail.

I have a lot of clothes for the girls, but when you have 8 Blythes and another smaller girl, you quickly realize that you need more shoes. When I do order something in the future, it will definitely be shoes!

Okay.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

The way you’ve been able to pose her, Sophie really does look as if she’s walking; in motion. So clever and fun!

Crazy thing this morning as I just try to sit upright after this Covid shot yesterday giving me nausea and headache which I hope ends pretty soon (husband is now sick from the shot and couldn’t go to work today; it finally happened, he got hit with the shakes and nausea, his usual with these vaccines, about 1am … however, none of this should ever dissuade a person from getting the vaccinations, because the side effects aren’t too common and never last for very long; we’re at 24 hrs and know we’ll feel better soon; the protection of the vaccine is SO well worth any of this temporary inconvenience), but I started googling for blogs I used to read and, wow, every single one of them is ‘abandoned’. Pffft; gone (no activity); a ghost blog now. Some of them with no postings since 2015, 2017, 2018 or maybe as ‘recently’ as 2019. Makes you wonder what happened to the blog owners. Hope Covid didn’t get to THEM. But they just disappear with absolutely no explanation to their readership. I think I probably went thru eight or nine blogs just now; all seemingly defunct. Frankly, I miss some of them. I guess if they’re done, they don’t care much in deleting their online footprint (or don’t know how; I’ve actually only known one of them who got their blog completely removed, erased from the web). But it just feels…weird. I feel like the blogging world was a whole lot different some dozen years ago. My goodness, in the ‘old days’ of blogs, I could kill half a day on my behind (too many hours), reading about some other person’s life, but I did enjoy the variety of like-minded themes and subjects. See how you’ve risen above all that, Claudia? You’ve been so steady and consistent about maintaining a terrific blog with a really-nice group of readers; it’s something I very much appreciate. Thank you for putting in the effort! I know the subject of blogs has come up before here, but I was just quite surprised this morning.

Do you use Instagram at all, Vicki? When I come across a blog that I loved that isn’t being updated, I search for that blogger on IG. Very often – not always – that person has started to use IG as a blog. It’s not remotely the same, of course, but if you’re interested in finding out if that blogger is well and what happened to them, that’s a good place to go.

Well, how interesting; no, I don’t use instagram, so maybe I need to rethink it. I’ll go to look at something on i/g and nowadays I’m blocked, so I guess I have to join or something, right? Thanks for the advice; I’ll start checking it out.

Isn’t that just the way things go sometimes? You’re just out enjoying nature, and bam….before you know it, you need a new battery for Don’s car!

Not a bud in sight around here…too cold. I’ll enjoy yours….thanks for the pic! Sophie looks lovely in the garden. Enjoy your day! ;)

I’m so happy to see Sophie out in the beautiful weather. I live near Seattle and we had snow yesterday morning! I snowed for about an hour but nothing was sticking. Thank goodness. Thank you so much for filling in my blanks about “The Avengers”. That was such a great show. No snow today so probably will wander around in the yard to see what needs cleaning up from the long winter. Have a good day you two!

You guys out in the Pacific Northwest have been getting quite a bit of snow! The weather is so strange – all over the country.

      Stay safe, Tana.

Those dolls are just too much!! So incredibly cute. I keep thinking of getting one myself. If I do, do you have any recommendations on artists? Thanks, Claudia!

No, no recommendations. I firmly believe that you’ll fall in love with someone’s work. Tt might not be an artist I connect to. That’s as it should be. It has to be a face that you fall for. Just search for Blythe dolls, or Blythe customs on Etsy.

      Good luck, Jenny.

      Stay safe.

I look at those adorable shoes and imagine them as earrings or a necklace—just to show where my addled brain goes. I could wear them with my striped leggings!

Those buds are the most glorious sign of spring! Give it a week if it’s not too cold (it got terribly cold and windy here) and you’ll have the most dazzling tree!

It’ll be fun seeing the girls posed outside! So many options!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
