Yesterday was a lovely sunny day, so I took a few pictures. Unfortunately, both Don and I were under the weather, so we basically did nothing all day long. We’re due for lots of rain over the next four days – that’s depressing – and a bit of snow on Wednesday night. It will be gone the next morning. But I did get outside on Saturday to do some much needed pruning of some of the bushes. There’s more to be done, but frankly, I was tuckered out. I have to get back in my ‘working outdoors’ shape!
Robins visited the birdbath, some critter has been chomping on my day lilies (grrr!) and there’s lots of bird song every day. And my beloved peepers are especially vocal in the evenings, as well as all night long.
The daffodils on the edge of the woods.
Drat! Both of these photos are a bit blurry.
Anyway, these are crab apple buds. There are also buds on the lilac and the hydrangeas. We lost a few trees up in the woods over the winter – we had such high winds! Lots of branches down as well. I suspect the trees were ash trees – they’ve been weakened by the emerald ash borer. Plus, we’ve had an excess of rain over the course of several months which doesn’t help. Some of the fallen trees we can move ourselves, but at least one or two will need a chainsaw. I also had to move three saplings that fell near the secret garden. Losing trees always makes me sad.
I also had to cut back the limelight hydrangea where it was covering one of the boxwoods. That limelight is huge, so a little cutting back is a good thing. I’m anxious to do more, but the rain will delay any more work until next weekend.
I hope you had a lovely Easter, if you celebrate.
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.

I love that near-fist of crabapple buds. We have trees in Southern Calif which are blooming a lovely pale pink (and the buds on sort of spindly [bare-otherwise] branches) and I wish I knew what they were (their species [I need to put on my sleuth’s hat and figure it out; maybe some sort of ornamental fruit tree]). We spent Easter morning seeing such beauties on a short car ride, including the sight of frosty snow on our local mountains ‘way up high; such an amazing thing going on into April here, and it’s sunny but cold right now at 7:45am PST, but we had a lot of rain over the weekend, too (and were in a flash-flood/thunderstorm warning, not watch, at times).
Sorry that you and Don had a feel-yucky day; he’s gotta get well for that acting gig; you’ve gotta get well to do more yard work and recapture your yard/property after harshest winter. It’ll happen; get well soon!

Sorry you two have been under the weather. It sounds like you didn’t let it hold you back, though. I hate losing trees, too. There’s something sad about it. Here’s to a few good days for R&R (rest and rain.)

I’m thinking I should’ve cut back my limelight’s a few weeks ago…when it was nice. Rain tomorrow (yay) changing to snow (boo)….and then the low is going sit and spin on us for a bit. But it’s supposed to melt quickly. How’s that for a forecast?
Sorry you two are not feeling well…hope Don gets better quickly for his gig this week. Enjoy your day! ;)

Spring is being stubborn about showing up here as well. Our daffodils haven’t even had a chance to bloom yet. Meanwhile, I’m worrying about the tulips being devoured by the deer before they even have a chance to show their colors. I think we’re all in for some exceptionally nasty weather the next few days.
Stay warm,
Kay

How exciting to see the spring flowers emerging. I miss that living in the south where the seasons are much more subtle.
