In honor of Easter, my Bunny egg cup cozies. Every once in a while I think of moving them upstairs to the office, but I can’t do it. I really like seeing them from my chair in the den. They’re darned cute and they make me smile. That’s mom on the right and her son on the left.
Yesterday, I drove my car for the first time since my back started giving me problems. I needed a little outing all by myself, which consisted of a trip to B & N (still no Country Living!) to check out what was new in the book world. I also ran into Michael’s to get a yellow highlighter. A simple little jaunt, but it meant a lot to me. It was a beautiful day yesterday, sunny, in the 60s – absolutely gorgeous.
I found a book that I wanted to buy two years ago, but in the midst of lockdown and ongoing COVID crap, I forgot about it. It’s since come out in paperback, so I grabbed it. And I got a couple of magazines because I need some artistic inspiration.
It’s going to rain today, so I’ll park myself in my chair and catch up on Gardener’s World and read. I finished Last Friends yesterday. The Old Filth trilogy by Jane Gardam (consisting of Old Filth, The Man in the Wooden Hat and Last Friends ) is simply delicious. I so love her writing; the rich characters, the different points of view. I already miss everyone who came alive to me on those pages.
I started Emily St. John Mandel’s newest last night – The Sea of Tranquility.
Last night, I was waiting for Don to come into the den before we switched over to Netflix for the evening. The TV was on – an old Law and Order that I’d seen before – so I was looking at Twitter and barely registering what was happening onscreen. I happened to look up right as this guy came on the screen:
No wonder the episode was familiar! I called out to Don and he couldn’t believe how dark his hair was. That guy has great hair, no matter if it’s brown or gray. (I happen to like gray better – he looks very handsome with some salt and pepper.)
He played a psychologist in this one.
Okay, my friends.
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

I like your bunnies! I remember when you made those and they turned out so nicely!
It is chilly here today but the sun is shining and the daffodils are blooming outside my kitchen window so they will look so nice for our Easter dinner tomorrow.
Nice to see Don on TV, I wonder if I would have recognized him if I had seen it…
Have a lovely weekend!
Claudia says
You probably would have. Many readers of the blog contact me to say they’ve seen him on something or other.
Stay safe, Ellen.
kathy in iowa says
what a happy surprise for you and don to see him on tv again! nice catch in that photo.
glad you had a fun outing, found some artistic inspiration. that magazine will be out soon (just not soon enough, especially for you!) and i will get a copy, too.
love those sweet bunnies! great knitting on such tiny needles!
i feel relief today: my taxes are in the mail!
also, something related to the horrible, never-should-have-happened stuff done to me at my last job has again been shared. yesterday was a deadline of sorts for that and (even though there was nothing more or new that i could tell) it took about twenty hours from me this week alone … very stressful and exhausting. it’s not over yet, but i’ve done all i can, feel good about that and am putting it in God’s most-capable hands.
also (in case i didn’t tell you earlier), my social security application was approved and starts in june for may … more relief! fifteen more days to go at work.
so i slept well last night. :)
hope you all have a great weekend and beautiful Easter.
stay safe!
kathy
Claudia says
So glad you slept well, Kathy! Taxes in, Social Security happening, and the stuff from your former job dealt with. All good.
Stay safe.
Pat Gaudreau says
Is that your Don? Handsome fella!
Your bunnies are adorable!
What you said about the characters in your book coming to life for you, that’s how I feel about To Kill a Mockingbird, fell in love in 10th grade with a wonderful English teacher and it’s stayed all these years.
Enjoy your weekend!
Claudia says
That’s my guy, but he looks very different now. That was about 15 years ago.
To Kill a Mockingbird is my favorite novel. I feel the same. I have it in several editions, several different languages and – an copy that was signed by Harper Lee.
I understand!
Stay safe, Pat.
Pat Gaudreau says
That’s awesome!!!!
Judy Clark says
I remember that episode.
Claudia says
A long time ago now, Judy!
Stay safe.
Shanna says
All these years I’ve been reading your blog and I haven’t yet caught a DON episode. Poo!
Claudia says
Some day, it will happen.
Stay safe, Shanna.

Your egg cozy bunnies are just darling! Yes, they definitely belong where you can see them and smile. And they do make a person smile.
I’m so glad you got out yesterday. Isn’t it odd, how very much more we appreciate those excursions when they have been denied for such a while, regardless of the reason. I’ll be curious to know the book you found at B&N! The trilogy sounds wonderful. I haven’t read anything by her so this is intriguing me.
It will be a fun weekend here. Tonight it’s make your own pizza with our friends Mark and Jan before we decorate eggs and watch Life of Brian. It’s a Good Friday tradition but this year it’s a Good Saturday night! I started the morning with a painting workshop from Sketchbook Revival (they continue till the 30th so packing them in while I can!) and will do a little baking for tomorrow. Then a good walk, a possible visit to a very small art show (I know three of the artists so will try to go unless it seems a bit dicey on the crowd) and try to finish the mystery I’m into so I can start a new one — either the next Donna Leon in my queue, The Venice Sketchbook or something a little deeper. So many choices!
Our Easter tomorrow is just us. Easy shrimp risotto, asparagus and deviled eggs. Possibly a movie or two (or the next Call the Midwife.) Life is good.
Have a wonderful weekend. I hope Country Living is out soon!
Claudia says
I’ll take a picture of the book and post about it on Monday.
Sounds like you’re going to have a lovely weekend, Jeanie.
It will be just us, too. We really don’t do anything special.
Stay safe.

Great to see Don in his younger days! I just checked in case they run the same schedule as I have had my British Country Living May Issue for a couple of weeks, the June issue is on sale 29th April. I would be tempted to get in touch with them as I agree with an earlier poster that they should have gifted you a copy!
Having managed to avoid for two years, I’m currently experiencing Covid. I have been triple vaccinated but last Saturday I had two workmen installing a new sink and units in my kitchen. Lovely older men but one of them was constantly sneezing albeit into a handkerchief. Masks are no longer mandatory and I could kick myself for not saying anything. They were sawing outside so all the doors were open and at one point I asked if he was allergic to the cat but he insisted it was just the cold air! I disinfected every surface after they left.
That said, up to now, I don’t feel too unwell just very tired so the vaccine offers some protection.
Speaking of Gardener’s World, I don’t know if I have mentioned previously but Clive Swift’s mother is the author Margaret Drabble.
Happy Saturday

hi, dee dee.
sorry that you have covid. i hope you feel better soon and get a good negative test soon, too!
especially in the meantime, i hope you are all stocked up and have enjoyable things at hand.
and that the workers are done and you are pleased with the new sink and cupboards.
hugs (if you want) and prayers from iowa,
kathy
Dee+Dee says
Kathy, thank you so much for your kind words. I hope that everything works out well for you too in the future.
God bless you and Happy Easter
kathy in iowa says
thanks very much, dee dee.
i believe better days are ahead for us all.
God bless you and everyone else. Happy Easter!
keep healing.

No, the two Country Livings are clearly on different schedules! Yours is so much nicer than ours, which has become thinner and less interesting, unfortunately. I wrote them to ask when the it would be on the stands and they never answered me. Not very cool.
I’m so sorry about Covid, Dee Dee! Darn it! I hope the tired feeling leaves soon. I guess we all need to be rigorous about it. But that said, sometimes people need to come in the house. Best to insist on them being masked in the future.
I had no idea that Clive Swift was the son of Margaret Drabble! Wow!
Stay safe.

Hello,
I agree with you, Don has great hair! I always notice it in his videos..and think to myself, that guy has great hair and a great face. A great voice, too.
What books did you buy? If it is okay to inquire.
Stay safe,
Kaye

I’ll post about the book on Monday – I’ll take a picture of it.
Don is just plain great – but that’s me talking!
Stay safe, Kaye.
Linda MacKean says
How fun to see Don pop up on tv like that. I must say I love his grey hair!! I hope you find County Living soon, I’m anxious to see how they styled your egg cups also. Hoping you have a nice weekend. Today is my Scout’s birthday. She is 7! Time flies it really does. Big Hugs.
Claudia says
I can’t believe she’s 7! How can that be, Linda! My goodness, time goes by too quickly.
Stay safe, my friend.
Carrie Wayne says
Your little bunnies are adorable! Law and Order (the original) is one of my favorite shows. I’ve probably seen your husband. It’s nice to get out and do little errands — I enjoy highlighters too; different colors for different books and different people (on my calendar). Sometimes I think I’m odd but then I hear of others who love highlighting things. My husband bought me a mole skin notebook and I keep quotes that I find in my readings and write them in there.
Have a wonderful Easter!
Claudia says
I have a planner and some books that I highlight because they are a form of study for me. I have lots of Tombow markers, as well. Are you familiar with them?
Stay safe, Carrie.
Carrie Wayne says
I will check out Tombow; love to browse stationery stores on-line!
Vicki says
Fun to see a younger version of Don.
Love the bunny cozies.
Glad your back is better; must’ve felt great to get out.
Have a nice Sunday!
Claudia says
I think this must have been not long after we moved out here – maybe 15 years ago? It’s been a long time since his hair was that dark.
Stay safe, Vicki!
Jill says
your bunny egg cosies are so cute !
Jillxo
Claudia says
Thank you, Jill!
Stay safe.
Betsy B says
I will be interested to hear what you think about the Sea of Tranquilty. Finished it last week.
I’ve seen so many Law and order episodes ( back in the day) with Don in them! He was always the tallest! :)
Claudia says
He’s always the tallest wherever he goes.
Sometimes his height keeps him from being cast, especially if the lead actor is shorter than him.
Stay safe, Betsy.
Grace says
Such a moment to see Don on screen like that! I’ve just been doing some catching up and loving your images so much. They are lovely and uplifting, as are your sweet bunnies. Also, your Blythe girls are a joy . I love their style(s) and am looking forward to seeing them enjoying the garden more now that it is Spring. I love that! I am sorry your back has been bothering you and hope it is feeling ever better. Take good care of your dear self Claudia
Claudia says
Thank you, dear Grace.
Good to hear from you again.
