I’ve seen more Eastern Swallowtails in the past few days than I have in 3 years! I can see this giant thistle from my chair in the den, so I’ve been watching a lovely little show.

We finally got our deductions off to our tax preparer. But not until late yesterday afternoon. I’m so relieved that it’s DONE.
Mowing is on the docket for today. I just have to figure out what section of the property I want to tackle. It’s supposed to rain tomorrow, which means I have to get out there today.
We watched Out of Africa on TCM last night. I saw it when it first arrived in theaters and have seen many clips from it since, but not the entire movie. Don, surprisingly, had never seen it. Oh my heavens, it is so beautiful, so impeccably made. Sydney Pollack was one of my favorite directors. It is sweeping, majestic, old-fashioned in the best possible way, a story beautifully acted and realized. I can’t stop thinking about it today. And John Barry’s score is one of the most beautiful ever written for films.
I confess, whenever I hear it, it makes me cry. Don can’t stop talking about it today. What a glorious movie it is!

The sky was full of clouds like this the other day. I was completely fascinated.

My pretty entrance hall.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.

Good morning Claudia! That is one majestic thistle. The contrast between the soft petals and the pointy sharp greens make thistles such beautiful plants. We had a globe thistle for many years. The tiny petals looked so soft, but were tiny needles. And just like yours, the butterflies loved them. I miss that plant. Swallowtails are so lovely. Enjoy your beautiful garden!
I am! I’m trying to really look at it every day, as fall is around the corner.
Thank you, Verna.
Stay safe.
I remember that movie and how lovely it was. I will have to look for it again…
Well worth it, Ellen!
Thanks.
Stay safe.
glad your taxes are done. may the results be good for you and don. paid our property taxes yesterday. they were increased, and already ridiculously high. it’s a surprising new-ish goal of our governor (she follows the president on most things) to get them lowered, but don’t know if that will happen as she leaves office in january.
hope the weather and allergens cooperate so you can mow as much as you feel the need to, and that you can then do whatever else you want. like watch the butterflies and look at that lovely entry in the beacon hill. :)
i’ve not seen “out of africa” either. maybe someday, but not today. today the paper-sorting must continue and be done with more focus and almost-ruthlessness than i’m currently feeling.
best i get to that.
happy, safe wednesday to everyone.

It is absolutely worth the watch, Kathy. Take it from Don!

Good morning Claudia. That thistle is magnificent! And having near enough to see from your chair must be such a treat with all the butterflies flitting around. I am so glad you keep thistles and that the butterflies find them… can you imagine that process from the butterfly’s point of view? What a journey! And I love to cloud watch myself…. those look like cirrus clouds just forming…. (one day I was sitting in my garden looking up at the empty blue sky and was amazed to see a small cloud form right overhead and drift along…. then another one did it too…. I was astonished!) I have been told I have my head in the clouds too…. :)
As for the hallway, it is beautiful!
I hope you have an easy time with the mowing. I have not been able to keep up with my garden this year… it’s just too hot. When the weather “breaks” I will get it wrestled back but it will be fall by then. That seems to be the theme this year… not keeping up! :)
It’s very humid today and we are really tired from mowing, Betsy.
Rest is on the schedule for the next 2 days!
Stay safe.
That thistle looks intimidating to me, all those spike things, while remaining beautiful. And it’s obviously enticing for butterflies and bees. It really is a remarkable plant. I can see why you watch intently from your chair.
Glad to hear your taxes are done….i’m sure it’s a great relief.
Out of Africa is one of my favorite movies. While I’ve watched it several times, it’s been awhile now. Maybe it’s time to get lost again in its beauty.
Enjoy your day…and mowing! ;)
I just came in from mowing. Don and I mowed the large front lawn and the corral. It’s humid and we’re tired!
Stay safe, Donnamae.
Well, rest up you both earned it. Govwatch some more butterflies! ;)
xoxo
That rug is great and I love the art. Perfect!
Thanks so much, Jeanie!

Out of Africa has one of my favorite movie soundtracks. I should take out my DVD and watch the movie. My daughters have never seen it.
Oh, yes! Watch it with your daughters, Wendy.
