Butterflies, Shoes, and a Headband

July 16, 2022 at 8:39 am by Claudia

It’s Butterfly Week here on the blog. Yesterday, almost immediately after I had the thought, “I haven’t seen an eastern swallowtail yet,” one appeared. Very skittish, so it was hard to get a picture. Now I need to see a black swallowtail. Fingers crossed. They do love coneflowers, and let’s face it, there’s a lot to choose from here at the cottage.

These arrived in the mail yesterday:

Sometimes the girls are barefoot because I don’t have enough shoes! So I ordered more from Cora Huang, who lives in Connecticut. I already have two pairs of her Mary Janes in other colors and I love them. And how could I resist bows? Especially on a red shoe (as you know, I love red shoes.) Cora’s work is amazing. I also have a pair of red boots made by Cora.

And just because, I had to put this headband on Katie. It was a late-in-the-day impulse. The headband was made by Teresa, who lives in Spain.

My quiet Saturday morning has disappeared. Someone is cutting wood with a noisy saw.

Ah, well. The sounds of the weekend.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

In my own life, I’m not a “shoe” person, but I love the shoes and boots of these dolls.

such sweet little treats … blythes and butterflies, among others. glad you have and enjoy them!

have you ever seen the old children’s books by maj lindstrom about flicka, ricka and dicka or snipp, snapp and snurr (swedish triplet girls and boys)? they came to mind today because there’s one about the boys and some red shoes. :)

here’s my current sound on a saturday morning … the ceiling fan from the apartment below mine. it’s been on non-stop for days as that place is vacant and being painted for someone new. it isn’t an unpleasant or very loud noise … just a reminder that i hope the new tenant is a kind person who brings no pests. and that i would very much like to have my apartment painted or paint it myself (with the landlord’s permission).

hope you are feeling better and have a nice day! same to everyone else here. and that don has great business if he goes to the farmers’ market. stay safe.

No, I’ve never seen those books!

A fresh paint job would be fun. I wonder if your landlord would take care of it for you?

      Stay safe, Kathy.

those books are very sweet reminders of my childhood and my parents’, too … swedish books from the 1930s and read by my swedish grandparents and my parents. :)

an offer to repaint apartments must be made every seven years and i’ve been there five years. my landlord is a very nice man, but i don’t know if he’d cover the cost right now or not. maybe if we split it? or if i did the painting? i will ask and hope he’s game for that (the walls are a dull cream) and for painting the doors, too (to cover the stain that’s turning orange). won’t know unless i ask!

hope you’ve had a good day.

    Katie has THE prettiest hair!

And the wee shoes; just the cutest.

Beautiful butterfly photo, Claudia (AKA Wildlife Photographer!).

It’s always a challenge to capture them because they move so quickly from flower to flower. Some seem not to mind my presence. Others move the minute they sense I am there.

      Stay safe, Vicki.

I can’t decide which photo I like the best! It’s a trifecta for Saturday morning! :)
Looks like it might rain today. Fingers crossed.

We thought it was going to rain, but…nothing.

Hopefully, on Monday or Tuesday. We really need it!

      Stay safe, Betsy.

Saturday sounds: the neighbors’ air conditioner and the puppy learning to ring our brass bells to go outside.

This was the year I was going to have coneflowers (after admiring yours last summer). Somehow the seeds didn’t make it onto the list. Rectifying that now!

Swallowtails, cabbage butterflies, hummingbirds and chickadees are our winged visitors.

A squirrel family does NOT appreciate our puppy–lots of chittering complaints from the woodpile. The puppy looks at the squirrels as an interesting opportunity however. I suspect we’ll have to encourage the squirrels to move on before mayhem results. The puppy may be the latecomer, but she has priority!

Stay cool (in every sense of the word)!

We have lots of cabbage butterflies, too. They’re such happy little things!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
