The Beach & Vignettes

June 15, 2010 at 12:03 am by Claudia

If you ask me, the perfect prescription for the blues is a walk on the beach. Truly. This morning found me breathing in the salt air, watching the waves and picking up shells. The sound of the surf was heavenly. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to live by the ocean and hear that sound every day? Found some great little shells which I will share with you another day. After my walk, I drove up the street to my favorite store, Vignettes. Just what the doctor ordered. I had a wonderful time chatting with my friend, Lori. Her store is simply gorgeous, with so many treats for the eye that I have been known to circle the store 3 or 4 times and even then I haven’t seen everything. I took some photos that I’d love to share with you. I’ll have more in the next post, as well.

This gorgeous piece greets you when you enter the store. I couldn’t get it all in the picture, even when I stood outside the store.

The set of drawers (in a perfect shade of blue) just sold.

A wonderful piece of vintage advertising.

The iron bed in the fantastic shade of pink just sold. It had been altered so that it would fit a queen sized bed – which means it would have fit perfectly in my bedroom. Sob.

Look up – I thought I’d show some of the many fabulous chandeliers throughout the store.

I have a few more photos to share in Vignettes, Part 2. Have a wonderful day.

Yikes, we just had another earthquake and this was the scariest one yet. It went on far longer and things were rattling! Can I go home now?

The Beach, Earthquakes & Mom

May 27, 2010 at 12:03 am by Claudia

Scenes from the beach:

There was quite a breeze and the water was choppy. I walked up and down the beach, taking photos, gathering shells, inhaling that clean, fresh ocean air. Note to self: get back there as soon as possible.

Did you know there was another earthquake on Tuesday evening? And, once again, I was sitting on the sofa. That brings the count to 3.

Mom is still in the hospital. Frankly, we don’t know what caused this incident. The doctors have said something about dehydration. I think that might be a factor along with her blood pressure or circulation. She was unconscious for about 10 minutes. Hopefully, she will be on her way home tomorrow but you know how it is in a hospital – so many different doctors and a lack of consistent communication. So we’re left with many questions.

My sister Meredith came up with perfect names again. Mrs. Koala will be Sydney and the baby will be Jasmine. Perfect, right?

Have a wonderful day.

Gifts from the Sea

May 28, 2009 at 2:41 pm by Claudia

You know all those photos of the beach I’ve been posting throughout my stay here? When I’m not taking pictures, this is what I’m gathering ~

I keep them in this lovely old glass sugar bowl~

and this (formerly the home of keys and sunglasses)~

The shells around here are of the petite variety. I never tire of looking at the subtle color variations and markings. They are going home with me to join the shells I gathered last year.

I urge you to read this wonderful novel – first recommended to me by Mrs. Staggs. I finally bought it last week and am entranced. It is all about the isle of Guernsey during and after the Second World War and the story is told via letters. It is charming, moving, sad, happy and really, really wonderful. Thank you, Mrs. Staggs!

I just added Google Translate to my blog. Just for kicks, I translated it into French -I wonder why it looks so much better that way? Have a great day!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
