Mr. Cardinal

November 25, 2011 at 8:38 am by Claudia

I glanced out the kitchen window the other day, saw 3 little birds, a woodpecker and our cardinal hanging out together, and ran for my camera. By the time I got back, everyone was gone but Mr. Cardinal. The same thing happened to me last year. I suppose I could walk around the house, camera hanging around my neck, always at the ready for any photo opportunity – but let’s face it, my neck would hurt after a while.

I did manage to snag a great shot of Mr. Cardinal, my elusive friend:

I didn’t edit anything on this photo. Just resized it.

I’m not especially enamored of gray skies and wintry weather. But I find great delight in the occasional splash of red on the landscape provided by Mr. Cardinal. Cardinals are beautiful any time of year, but winter seems made for them. Mr. Cardinal is fast. He doesn’t stay in one place very long, so capturing him via the camera lens is always a challenge. When I finally looked at my shots, every one of them was blurry but one. One is fine with me. Victory!

How was your Thanksgiving? Ours was just perfect. A long walk with the dogs on a beautiful sunny day and dinner cooked by…me. No, you’re not seeing things. I cooked the whole meal and I have to say it was Delicious. We ate too much, of course, that seems to be required on Thanksgiving. I wasn’t sure if we would have pie after eating that rich coconut cream birthday pie but who am I kidding? No pumpkin pie? Nuts! I’m sure glad I made it. Ummm-mmm good!

I will waddle around the house today. Or perhaps I should take a walk. That might be the wiser choice.

Oh, almost forgot –  Brenda and I have a new logo for our Defending the Small House Series. This one suits us to a T!

Birdbath & Would You Do Me a Favor?

June 23, 2011 at 8:18 am by Claudia

Every birdie needs a bath. This little one came back several times, especially after I changed the water just for him.

I had 2 days of work in the garden and then the rains came. Yesterday morning we had a doozy of a thunderstorm. It seemed to go on for hours. With it came humidity and I’m afraid more of the same is due today. I’ve been cleaning and unpacking and worrying about Riley. He’s really had a hard time of it with an injury to his right hip. We don’t know how it happened…sometimes this sort of thing just takes over for several days and we worry and help him as best we can. In the middle of a “Should we take him to the Vet?” discussion, as if he knew just what we were suggesting and wanted no part of it, he started to show little signs of improvement.  We’re exercising him as often as we can and he seems find getting up and down a bit easier today. Our sweet boy – we sure love him.

May I give you a little heads up? Don has a big birthday tomorrow. One that he has been dreading. Hint: it starts with a 6 and ends with an 0. He wants to keep the day low-key, so we are having a couple of friends over for dinner and an evening of music with guitars and beautiful songs and the creative expression that makes Don happy. A little gift giving will be done, (the big gift, if you remember, is our trip to Fenway Park in September for a Red Sox vs. Yankees game) some sugar-free apple raspberry pie (from the Julian bakery in Julian, CA) will be eaten and hopefully, the day will be a happy one.

I’m going to write a Happy Birthday post for him later today. Would you all be so kind as to wish him a Happy Birthday? It would be such a wonderful surprise. I plan on showing him all the birthday greetings at the end of the day on Friday.

Thank you, my friends. My guy needs a little cheering up!

One Last Post from the Road

June 17, 2011 at 10:14 am by Claudia

This is the Blithe Spirit set. I took this last night as I waited for our second preview performance to begin. We had a full house and lots of laughter. Whew! This space is named the Up-The-Hill Theatre. Believe me – it is up a hill.(I need to get in better shape.) And for most of this theater company’s existence, it has been the only performing space. Surrounded by trees, it springs up seemingly out of nowhere. The audiences here are incredibly loyal and they make an event out of coming to the theater. They picnic and grill and generally have a wonderful time before the show begins.

See? I wasn’t kidding about the name. The newest space is an indoor theater – the Touchstone. It is smaller in size and wonderfully intimate.

I really love the design; almost barn-like and beautiful in its simplicity.

More cows.

One of the now grown-up babies. I see this little one follow his dad around. I don’t know the fate of the others. One day, I saw a cat in the little area in which they hang out. I ran downstairs, shooed it away and immediately worried about the babies. And worried. Until I had to let go and just hope they all made it. Truly, I am not far from being a person who would pitch a tent and act as a sentry to protect the babies from all predators. Ask my husband. I am inches away from being ‘that Bird Lady.’ Feel free to substitute dog, cat, bunny, baby groundhog, chipmunk. They all work.

I’m packing boxes. Making lists. Getting ready to fly home on Sunday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
