Rain, Sleep Deprived, & Egg Cups

April 3, 2024 at 7:52 am by Claudia

Rain. Rain. Rain.

And a not-so-restful night as both Don and I kept waking up all night long, knowing he had the alarm set for 4:30ish this morning. That always seems to happen. Your body anticipates an early wake-up call and your mind worries you’ll somehow not hear the alarm. I felt okay when I first got up, but now, after being up for 2 ½ hours, the lack of sleep is hitting me. Don went into the city on Monday for a fitting and it turns out  he worked with one of the guys who will be in the scene with him on Rescue Me, so they had a chance to catch up.

As it’s so rainy, I haven’t had a chance to do much outside, though I did start digging up an invasive plant that has taken hold in the poor and gravelly soil near the house. I have much more to go, but that will have to wait until the weekend.

New York’s Presidential Primary was yesterday, so we voted – of course. I even have the sticker to prove it.

Lily and Pru. They hang out together on the edge of the shelf.

I haven’t been able to get hold of the woman from France who collects the egg cups that I love, so I’m just going to post a partial photo. She goes by the name, Ch Baralle. I want to make sure she gets photo credit.

You can see several diabolo egg cups here, as well as traditional double and single egg cups. I love this kind of design, seen frequently on the French version of ironstone and china.

I want them all. But they’re not easy to find and I’d probably have to order from France, which involves a sometimes heavy shipping fee. I love the way she has displayed them – in tea boxes. She’s removed the lids.

I feel that little tingle I get when I’m about to dive down the rabbit hole. I know it far too well.

All right. Maybe I’ll start a puzzle, as my brain is sleep deprived and needs something simple to do, like finding the edge pieces.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Fabric Eggs

March 29, 2024 at 8:26 am by Claudia

It’s Good Friday and I have to get my car inspected this morning. The deadline is on Sunday, so I’m cutting it close. Don’s car has been repaired and, after the inspection, I’ll drive him to the mechanic’s to pick it up. We won’t talk about the amount of the check he’ll be writing. Sigh.

It’s been gray for the past several days – very hard to get good photos. Will we ever see the sun?

The fabric eggs must be highlighted at this time of year right? I love them in this Fiesta compote. Don had to move the apples for an apple pie elsewhere, as I had reserved the compote for this display.

Another view:

I made these in 2009, I believe. That’s the year I worked in San Diego for six months, substituting for the woman who took over my job when I left USD/Old Globe. She was on sabbatical for the semester. And then I also coached the Shakespeare Summer Repertory. I borrowed my friend Ingrid’s Singer Featherweight and worked on a quilt, as well as these eggs. I got all the fabric at my favorite quilt shop, the one where I had my first quilting lessons.

Ella is intrigued by the eggs.

So, I’m off to make a second cup of coffee and get ready for the car inspection.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

Ice, Car Problems, & The Tour

March 23, 2024 at 8:17 am by Claudia

We had some snow falling overnight, which turned into freezing rain. Don had a gig that was north of here – over an hour and a half away – so the trip home was dangerous and took him twice as long, Visibility was bad, he was worried about black ice…just dreadful. I warned him about it when he called to tell me he was leaving the venue. The whole evening started off wrong. He had just left the house and was about a mile away when his car jerked and started making terrible noises. He called me to tell me that he was turning around. I gave him my car keys and we loaded all of his equipment into my car and off he went.

His car sounded terrible. This is not what we need right now.

Anyway, he’s safe. My car is safe. And the rain continues.

More egg cups:

On the left: a sweet little egg cup that a reader sent to me. Love the colors.

Center: an egg cup from Prague – a gift from Don.

Right: an egg cup from Holland. It’s marked on the bottom. I believe this one is also from my mom.

Two double egg cups made of glass.

On the left, a jadeite egg cup. I believe I found this one locally.

On the right, a glass egg cup in white and orange. I found this one locally, as well. I was taken by the color combination and the fact that it was made of glass. No mark. Would this technically be milk glass? I’m thinking it is.

And, in case you’ve been missing them, here’s a photo of Chloe and Derek (the bear.)

It’s a miserable day out there, so we’re staying home. Reading and starting a puzzle sounds good to me.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
