Springtime Crochet Flower Garlands: a Shop Update

March 8, 2013 at 8:48 am by Claudia

marchsnow

The view this morning. Seems like March wants to give us one last shot of snow – it won’t last long because the temps are going to be in the fifties tomorrow and Sunday. Scout’s happy. And I’m happy because I’m going to let Don shovel! I figure I’ve earned it.

Thanks for the get well wishes. I’m still not feeling great, but I feel a bit better this morning. This winter has been the toughest on my sinuses that I can remember. I’m really tired of it all.

Today I have a shop update to share with you. Bear with me as I  show you the new banners I’m listing today. Behold, the Springtime Crochet Flower Garland Collection:

These garlands are made from Peaches & Creme Cotton. The flowers measure about 3 ¾ inches in diameter. Peaches & Creme cotton has a heft to it that makes for a sturdy flower. Each banner will come with a coordinating length of ribbon. But as you can see here, you can also use a length of twine or lace or baker’s twine or fishing line. If you use fishing line, your flowers will seem suspended in mid-air. Each of these garlands includes 8 flowers, 4 in each color, and is $14.00.

This group is crocheted in Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino yarn. It is incredibly soft and made of a combination of merino wool and cashmere. Since the flowers are smaller and measure 3 inches in diameter, I included 10 each in these garlands. The Celadon is hard to capture accurately, but it is a true Celadon and it is beautiful. As with the others, a length of ribbon will be included. Since this yarn is expensive and there are 10 flowers in each garland, the price is $16.00.

If you see something you want and it’s already been spoken for, let me know. I do have some yarn left in both Peaches & Creme and the Baby Cashmerino and if there’s enough to fulfill your request, I’ll be happy to do so. I also plan on crocheting some garlands in the other colors of Baby Cashmerino that you see in the Multicolors Garland. But I have to crochet a couple of Obsession scarves in the meantime.

The light has been so inconsistent lately, it’s been a battle trying to photograph these garlands. Spring, please come soon!

Update: All banners are sold out. I’ll start making a few more! Thank you!

Happy Friday.

Crazy for Color

March 6, 2013 at 9:58 am by Claudia

nest

I’ve got Spring Fever. I could hear birds singing away yesterday and it gave me hope.

The giant sheet of ice that covered a good portion of the parking area outside the door has finally melted.

cone

The ice was so thick and dangerous that I resorted to putting this attractive cone out so that delivery trucks wouldn’t park there. I had to park over there by the shed. Those little bits of ice you can see in the photo? I chopped up the last bit of ice with my boot yesterday.

Don backed into the cone recently and it ended up on its side. I let Scout out and noticed that she was staring at it for the longest time. Then she started barking at it. I have no idea what the heck she thought it was, but I had to go outside and restore the cone to its original position before she would stop barking.

She doesn’t like any changes on her turf.

Do you think it’s time to put the cone back in the shed? Or should I use it as the focal point for a spring garden?

Just kidding.

Unfortunately, we are due for some snow today and tomorrow. I don’t think it will amount to much – just snow, then rain, then snow, then rain. Those to the south of us are going to be hit harder. I’m not too upset because it’s going to hit 50° on the weekend, which is positively balmy for us.

threads

I need color. After months of a grayish brown landscape, I’m longing for some color outside my windows. Inside? I’ve got plenty of it, because you know I love color.

yelloworchidgarland

I’ve been crocheting flowers like crazy and the colors make me happy. (I’ll list the new garlands for the Etsy shop tomorrow.) Yellow, Purple, Red, Blue, Tangerine, Pink….oh my. I think we can all use some color right about now, whether it’s in the garden or in a springtime banner.

What about you? Are you longing for color? Or are you one of those lucky ones who lives in a warmer climate?

Happy Wednesday.

A Flower-Filled Sunday

March 3, 2013 at 9:47 am by Claudia

lotsofflowers2

There may be no flowers blooming on the outside of the cottage, but there are a lot of flowers blooming inside!

purpleflowers

It’s time for some new garlands in the shop. And I have to crochet some scarves, too.  I’m not ready to list them yet, but I’ll give you a heads up when I’m about to.

redgarland

This is the garland that’s going to Judy at 20 North Ora. I’m awfully fond of it.

That’s what I’m up to on this Sunday. It looks sunny outside. I can only hope it will stay that way. We haven’t seen it very much lately.

Question for the day: When did the word curated become so overused? I do believe it has lost its original, highly specialized definition. Suddenly everyone’s a curator. Makes me sad.

pjparty

Tomorrow is the PJ Party! I’d love to have you take part. Write a post about your favorite pajamas or nightgown, flannel or otherwise. Post a picture. Wax rhapsodic over the joy of spending an entire day in your pajamas or any adventures you’ve had in your pajamas or what happens when you greet the UPS man in your pajamas. You get the picture. I will have the party up and ready to go at 8:00 EST tonight, to give those of you who are pressed for time on Monday a chance to post.

Who knows how many will show up for this party? That’s the problem any party thrower runs into! I’m looking forward to reading your posts, my friends.

Linking to Elaine’s Sunny Simple Sunday.

Happy Sunday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
