Thursday Thoughts

June 16, 2022 at 9:03 am by Claudia

• Yesterday, I was talking to my best friend on the phone, while sitting on the porch glider. About 5 minutes into our call, I saw a deer run across the street toward our house, run up the driveway and then to the corral and the woods. Luckily a car slowed down and the deer made it safely.

We continued talking. I’d say it was about 20 minutes later when a fawn – THE fawn – also ran across the street, jumped the culvert and ran in the same direction as the other deer. This fawn is very, very small, by the way. It became clear that the deer that I saw earlier was the fawn’s mom.

Both times, I held my breath, praying that they would cross the road safely. Remember, this is a very busy road.

Later in the conversation – maybe 10 minutes later? – I looked up to see the fawn on the front lawn, clearly still looking for mom. I stood up because I knew I had to stop her/him from running across the street again. As soon as we locked eyes, she reversed and ran back up into the woods.

After we finished talking, I put on my muck boots and walked through the woods, looking for mom and baby. I never saw them. So I kept watch for a couple of hours, just in case I needed intervene. Poor baby was frantically looking for mom! But she never came back so I have to think they found each other.

And that’s how I proceeded to worry about the fawn for about 3 hours.

• In other news, Jim Parsons messaged me on Instagram yesterday with the news that Spoiler Alert (the movie we worked on) is coming to theaters on December 2nd. Whoo hoo! This is very exciting. It will premier less than a year since we wrapped the film, which was on December 10th of last year. I can’t wait for you to see it.

• Day three of the January 6th Committee Hearings is today at 1:00 pm EST. Be there or be square.

• We got up around 5:30 this morning and soon after that, we had a morning thunderstorm. There’s something about early morning thunderstorms that I love. Sipping a hot cup of coffee, lamps on because it’s still somewhat dark, and thunder and lightning filling the skies. Very cozy.

• Question for introverts: Have you run into problems with some friends who don’t understand what an introvert is? Or take your need for home/quiet/solitude personally? That’s what Laural and I were talking about yesterday. (Note: Laural completely understands and accepts me and she’s an extrovert. I was talking to her about other friends.)

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Okay.

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

A Visit

June 12, 2022 at 8:46 am by Claudia

A little bit of wonder for you this morning.

Look closely. A small fawn is investigating one of my potted plants. A beautiful little baby.

Mama saw me as I stood in the kitchen taking this picture, so they were soon gone. I posted it on IG and my neighbor commented, wondering if they were the same pair that had been hanging out near her house. As they took off toward her meadow, I think they are.

Oh, such sweetness.

This morning the Carolina wren pair that were scared off when the trailer dollhouse was knocked over and hanging by a thread, came back. (They had opted to nest across the street on my neighbor’s property. I could hear them singing every day.) They were clearly scouting for their next nest. They sang on the porch and flew around, concentrating on my purple hanging plant. Ummm….no.

Then a while later, they turned up on the maple tree and one of them went in and out of the trailer.

Dare I hope?

I keep having this urge to push the nesting material away from the opening to where it probably was before the house got tilted. But Don says to leave it alone, that the birds will fix it up if they want to nest there. He’s probably right.

All this and three bunny sightings – two yesterday and one this morning.

It’s going to rain today.

I donated three bags of books to the library yesterday and I’ll be donating more next week. I have SO many books around here, and I have no problems letting go of some of them. Many of them, of course, I would never consider donating. But I only have so much shelf space. Next up: some older decorating books that I have not cracked open in years. Reward: others get to enjoy them and I have more shelf space available.

I finished the Elizabeth George and have now started the next in the Slough House series by Mick Herron – Real Tigers. What a joy he is to read!

Don reinstalled a clothesline outside, and I hung the sheets out to dry last week. They smelled so fresh! Since rain is on the docket for today, I’ll wash them tomorrow so I can hang them on the line.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

Day Ninety-Four

June 15, 2020 at 9:36 am by Claudia

Another beautiful morning here in the Hudson Valley. No rain on the horizon until Friday. I sprayed some deer repellent on the hostas late yesterday afternoon. So far, so good. But I’ll be doing it again after it rains. Every year, I forget about the deer until I see some damage. Then it’s, “Oh, right! I have to spray some stuff on the plants!” Duh. My brain seems to be a sieve lately anyway. Anyone else experiencing foggy brain during lockdown?

C’est fini!

I worked on this a lot yesterday and then, as the end came in sight, I kept going even though I was tired. As always seems to happen, the final pieces – which looked like nothing specific and were therefore maddening – made absolute sense when I figured out where they belonged. But I could only do that when it came down to just a few missing pieces.

This is Don’s favorite so far. He actually suggested framing it and hanging it at the bottom of the stairs. Hmmmm….I guess I’d better slide it onto some foam board while we ponder this. Terri, thank you again for the puzzle; it was a real challenge and so satisfying at the same time.

We just put in a grocery order and will pick it up at 3:30 today. It used to be impossible to pick up the same day. We’re happy campers.

Governor Cuomo has threatened to add restrictions again in NYC due to thousands of complaints about people drinking and congregating on the street sans masks. See? It’s happening here as well. What fools. I hope he comes down hard on them. He said that local governments need to enforce the rules. Mayor de Blasio (not a fan) got defensive. And so it goes.

A new puzzle on the horizon. I’m not sure which one. I received two this past week but I’m also looking at some of the other puzzles Terri sent. A happy quandary.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
