Pastel, Weird Hair, and Upcoming Egg Cups

March 4, 2024 at 8:31 am by Claudia

I sometimes take part in a thing called Flat Lay Sunday, run by my friend Tania. Yesterday’s theme was Pastel. I only do it if I can come up with something quickly. In this case, I could. I went upstairs to the office and pulled 4 things I had on display, along with this quilt. And of course, Mabel, with the pastel pink hair. (She had been wearing red, so an outfit change was required.) And there you go!

Th quilt was one of the first I made and it remains a favorite.

We walked yesterday and we’ll probably walk again today as we have three days in a row of rain starting on Tuesday. But yesterday was glorious! Sunny, temperature in the sixties – everyone was out and about. It was truly lovely.

Don’s gigs went very well, especially the one on Saturday night. It was a new venue for him and it was packed with young people who were very appreciative. He fed off that energy and was pumped when he got home.

Speaking of Don, yesterday he came into the den and I started laughing because this is what I saw:

He’d been running his hands through his hair again and had no idea what he’d created.

Don Einstein? Don stuck his finger in a light socket?

I swear, it’s never the same way twice!

I have to wrap and pack an Etsy order this morning and get it to the post office, but that’s the extent of my errands for today.

I realized yesterday that Easter is on March 31st, so I suppose it’s time for a tour of the egg cups? Hurrah!

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

What Are You Reading?

January 20, 2024 at 9:32 am by Claudia

Right now, it’s 17 degrees and ‘feels like’ 7 degrees. It’s been this way all week long, as we’ve been locked into a frigid phase of the weather. It will start to warm up on Monday, thank goodness. We had light snow all day long yesterday – probably about an inch in total. When I went out to get the mail, I decided to shovel the driveway and give Don a break. It was quite easy, as all I had to do was push the airy snow with the shovel. No heavy lifting.

And so, we hunker down here at the cottage. Don has a gig tonight. The venue he’s going to cancelled last night’s entertainment, I don’t know whether they had a lot of snow or if it was for some other reason. I hope Don isn’t cancelled, but we’ll just have to wait and see. It’s north of here.

I’ve been having a bit of trouble finding a book I want to read, other than my assigned reading, aka Wolf Hall. At the moment, I’m reading Wolf Hall  and The Poppy War  by R. F. Kuang, the author of Yellowface  and Babel, both of which I read last year and enjoyed a great deal. I like it very much so far and it’s part of a trilogy. It’s in the fantasy genre, not something I usually read, though I’ve been surprising myself lately.

This week has been topsy-turvy, so I haven’t been reading consistently. I hope to get back on track this week.

So here’s my Saturday question for you: What are you reading?

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

A Few More Egg Cups

April 13, 2023 at 8:24 am by Claudia

Well, I made it through the day yesterday on four hours of sleep. The run-through went very well. Then I ran into some problems with the theater on how I get paid, which eventually got resolved. Still pisses me off, however. When I finally got home I had to fill out additional paperwork and then I collapsed in my chair. Kept falling asleep throughout the evening…

I have a bit of a break before I have to drive to NJ on Tuesday. Today’s theme (for both of us) is ‘Do Nothing.’

Adrian is still in a great deal of pain and it’s taken a while for him to think and respond to questions clearly. That’s slowly getting better, according to Margaret. How I wish he wasn’t dealing with pain!

We text one question a day to Margaret because we know she’s got her hands full. We usually wait until the evening. Prayers for Adrian and Margaret and Adrian’s son, Tyler.

I forgot to include these beauties in my little egg cup tour! I suspect I’ll find a few more that were left out.

The silver egg cup on the left (which I quickly polished this morning with an anti-tarnish cloth) is my most expensive egg cup. Don bought it for me in Paris several years ago. It’s petite in size and that art nouveau design is gorgeous. (It’s currently reflecting the surface of the stool, so keep that in mind.)

The two beauties on the right are antique egg cups from Germany. I found them on eBay a few years ago. I love anything with bluebirds, so I had to have them. Aren’t they lovely? The birds are so detailed and delicate.

I’m going to take it very, very easy today with a possible stroll around the property to see the green buds on the lilacs and the crabapple tree next to the catalpa.

It’s going to be 88 degrees here today. I mean, come on! Way too hot!

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
