Day Three Hundred Eighty-Four

April 1, 2021 at 10:12 am by Claudia

We are now fully vaccinated, save for a two week period that will end on April 14th. I have to say that Walgreens does a good job of it, very gentle, efficient, and there are no crowds. Also, everyone in the store was masked and keeping a good social distance. Don went first and then me. We were very happy to have it done but the actual shot was sort of anticlimactic – a tiny prick and it was done. It wasn’t until I had been home for a bit and took a nap (I was tired) that I realized upon waking how enormous this was. After a year – 54 weeks to be exact – we were finally vaccinated. A whole year. And then I thought about the over 500,000 Americans who were not so fortunate, who were taken from us before a vaccine was available. It’s heartbreaking. As I said to Vicki in yesterday’s comments, I am humbled by the enormity of what yesterday means to us and by the incalculable loss of life in the past year – all those who weren’t so fortunate.

We had some sparkling cider on hand and we toasted each other in the evening, stopping to remember all those lost, especially my colleague Terrence McNally and the late, great John Prine.

As of this morning, the only side effect I have is a sore arm. Same with Don.

More egg cups, this time on the folk art shelf in the den: a gentleman egg cup (they were usually sold in a pair and the heads were salt and pepper shakers,) a red transferware cup, a little egg and cherub, a goose egg cup from France (found here in the States,) Humpty Dumpty with a hand painted egg from Prague, two wooden egg cups with salt and pepper egg tops (sent by a reader of the blog,) and a glass egg cup I found a couple of years ago. And my little family of wooden ducks in the foreground. The shelf itself was found in a shop on the other side of the river when we were living in our rental. I really love it.

I just finished Snow  by John Banville. Beautifully written. It’s a haunting mystery that takes place in Ireland in the late Fifties. Banville is a Booker Prize winner and I can see why – he’s a poet. I loved the book. Now to decide what to read next.

I have a few other things to share with you and I’ll do that tomorrow.

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

Day Three Hundred Eighty-Three

March 31, 2021 at 7:47 am by Claudia

Our second jab is this morning, so I’m writing this post earlier than I usually do.

Don concocted something tasty in the crock pot yesterday, so we’re set if we end up not feeling well. But I trust we’ll be fine. It’s going to be rainy today and tomorrow, so we’ll kick back and take it easy, if I don’t go mad trying to complete the tricky jigsaw puzzle I’m working on.

I think we’ll both feel greatly relieved when we’ve had the second shot. I imagine those of you who have already been fully vaccinated felt the same thing. We had to wait four weeks between our first and second shots, so it’s been a long time coming – at least, to us.

More egg cups, in the Harlequin pattern by Homer Laughlin, circa midcentury or earlier. I’d love to get a couple more in other colors. Two of these were gifts and soon after I received them, I found two more. And that’s a Bakelite napkin ring.

I very seldom decorate for holidays – the exception being Christmas. But I usually display my fabric Easter eggs. For some reason, I haven’t done that this year. But I need a splash of pastels, so I’m going to get them out this afternoon.

Okay my friends. I’m off to make more coffee. Sorry this is so short!

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Day Three Hundred Eighty-One

March 29, 2021 at 9:56 am by Claudia

Wind. And more wind. But, in spite of the wind, the sun popped out. That makes it a bit more bearable. We are off to Don’s eye doctor this afternoon for his treatment. We pick up our grocery order tomorrow morning, so we have food on hand in case we feel less than tip top after our second vaccine on Wednesday.

I’m working on a puzzle that is a wee bit difficult. I know you understand that I love jigsaw puzzles and the entire process of putting them together, but an equally important benefit that I don’t usually mention is that working on a puzzle really helps my anxiety. The kind of zen-like focus involved in solving the puzzle really makes a difference in my well-being. I used to feel the same thing when I was knitting or crocheting or doing the crossword puzzle.

Anyway, more egg cups:

Disregarding the top row of cubbies (it was on another post,) we have an Emma Bridgewater egg cup that I purchased in London a few years ago, a Walking Ware egg cup from England, a wonderful egg cup from Devon from a blogging friend, a Holt Howard rooster egg cup, a flow blue transferware egg cup, a tiny little rabbit holding up an egg cup, an art deco style cup found at the Paris Flea Market, another egg cup from the flea market, a rooster egg cup given to me by a reader of the blog, a face egg cup – also a gift, another rooster egg cup (they were a pair,) a brown transferware egg cup – Mason’s Vista – from England, a chick coming out of an egg from Portugal (the egg itself was a gift from my mom,) a very old red transferware cup found at the flea market in Paris, two egg cups from Abbey Road in London, a Hankscraft egg cup, another chicken coming out of an egg (from my mom,) a little chick (from mom,) a Jadeite egg cup, and two modern cups that were a gift – I think they’re from Finland, but I’m not sure if I’m remembering correctly.

There’s more, of course, and I’ll try to post them this week as we head toward Easter.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
