Home. And It’s Sunny!

March 18, 2018 at 10:32 am by Claudia

Had a little glitch with the blog this morning and, I guess, last night, though I didn’t see it. When I tried to get on this morning, my browser said my ‘certificate had expired.’ Very frustrating. But my host fixed it, so if you saw a warning that my site wasn’t safe, it is, and it was. Certificates renew every few months and this one was lagging a bit, according to the tech. He pushed it through. Just a technical glitch. All is safe here at Mockingbird Hill Cottage.

But since I’m not feeling well this morning, it was energy I didn’t need to expend.

Yes, I’ve got some sort of congestion, cough crap thing. Not feeling at all well. Sigh.

Despite that, I arrived home yesterday to a sunny day and almost all the snow melted. That put a smile on my face. Even though I don’t read reviews, I would have bet a hundred dollars the NY Times wouldn’t like the show and they didn’t. It doesn’t fit into their ‘model’ and, let’s face it, the reviewers there can be snobby. It’s not like anything else on Broadway, therefore, they don’t know what to do with it.

I’ll say it again. If you like Jimmy Buffett, you will love this show. If you want something traditional, you probably won’t.

I’m just praying that the show has a healthy run despite the Times. Send some positive energy our way!

Enough about those people. That is exactly why I don’t read reviews (and I didn’t read this one) because it’s one person’s opinion and if that person doesn’t get it, then it’s slanted, and people can be influenced by that. I like to make up my own mind. Frankly, I’ve long thought that reviews should be outlawed. One person’s opinion is not necessary my opinion. Or yours. Nor should that reviewer have any influence whatsoever. If I had a dollar for every time I’ve loved something on television or film or theater that a reviewer didn’t, I’d be a rich woman by now!

There are other reviewers out there who did  get it and that’s a good thing!

Change of subject: I can hear lots of birdsong this morning! Heavenly. I know that we’ll have very cold temps at nighttime for the next week, but temps during the day are warming up. March doesn’t want to give up winter just yet and there will be the inevitable ‘snow showers,’ but they won’t last…because spring is just around the corner!

This is what a about-to-open new leaf looks like on a rubber plant. Isn’t that splash of red beautiful?

I have to buy some groceries today and then I’m going to lay low for the rest of the day. Don has one show this afternoon and then he has the evening and tomorrow off. I’m planning on heading back into the city for the March for Our Lives this Saturday. Then I will most likely stay for a couple of days, or Don will come home with me. We’ll see.

Happy Sunday.

This Guy

March 17, 2018 at 8:49 am by Claudia

This guy.

He’s worked so hard for the last year. He’s having a lot of fun. He can’t wait to get back to work today (they had the day off yesterday).

We took it easy yesterday and ate a late breakfast down the street from the apartment. Then we came back to the apartment and fell asleep on the sofa. Today, I head home for a bit.

It’s been really lovely. Opening night was incredible. Watching Don get interviewed by the press was such a treat! Feeling the happiness and joy among the cast and those who saw the show that night was a delight.

I’ve never seen an audience not fall in love with this show. I’ve never seen anything less than crazy enthusiasm and applause throughout the show. It’s not a traditional musical. It’s all about happiness and peace and joy and Jimmy Buffett’s music. It’s about a lifestyle. There will be those who simply don’t get it, and that’s fine. Heck, I hardly knew anything about Jimmy Buffett before Don started this journey. But I’ve become a fan – of him and his music.

I hope it runs a long time, but who knows? I do know that it’s the perfect antidote for these poisonous times.

I’m really tired – I’ve gone through several days with not enough sleep – so I’ll make this short. Also have to get ready to head home. Sigh.

I’m so proud of my husband! He gets to bring joy to hundreds of people every day. Every day. Sometimes, twice a day! Can there be anything better than that?

Happy Saturday.

Unforgettable

March 16, 2018 at 11:04 am by Claudia

Unbelievable. Amazing. A peak life experience.

This will probably be a two-part post. We didn’t get to bed until 3 am and we’ve spent the last two hours just trying to talk our way through this experience. Not just last night, but from the very beginning – the entire journey.

Anyway, it was a spectacular evening. The changes that have been made to the show have made it better than ever. The audience loved it, the cheers went on and on, Jimmy came onstage at the end and played Margaritaville. The party was huge and noisy (I swear I heard about one-half of what was said to me!) and exuberant.

When we arrived at the party, a gentleman met us and escorted us to the press line. Don insisted I go with him (this photo was taken later) and it was just like in the movies: face this camera, face that camera, pose for me, smile, interviewers asking questions, cameras rolling. Surreal!

I’m sure we’ll get more photos like this – my friend Becki, who works for the La Jolla Playhouse, got this picture of us.

For a brief moment in time, we were ‘celebrities.’

The amazing, kind, generous and unbelievably talented cast of Escape to Margaritaville.

Don with a true Parrothead. The hat is spectacular, don’t you think?

The obligatory selfie.

This is about as much of the dress as I could get. It was hard to get pictures and Don had to leave for the theater before me, so I had no one to take my picture. But there were a lot of pictures taken by a lot of people, so hopefully, I’ll have one to share with you. The woman in the middle is the wife of one of the incredible musicians, Russ Henry.

I’ve run out of superlatives. Give me 24 hours and I’ll try to share it all with you in a more coherent fashion.

We are blessed. And my husband is simply unforgettable in this role.

And I just missed Jimmy. I still  haven’t met him!

Happy Friday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
