Earrings

February 1, 2013 at 9:15 am by Claudia

Most of you know my sister, Meredith. She blogs at Mereknits. And she does knit. And crochet. And weave. And she makes jewelry. And she’s a great mother and wife and occupational therapist and, most importantly to me, sister. She’s been needle felting lately and has come up with something special. We’re going to offer them in the Etsy shop.

Let me give you a preview:

redearrings

Earrings! These adorable needle felted heart-shaped earrings will make you swoon. Meredith just sent me a box full of them. You’ll be able to choose between Red, Strawberry Swirl (which is the color of the heart I posted the other day,) Pink and Berry. The ear wires and balls are sterling silver, the spacers are pewter and there are crystals, as well.

earringsberry

The earrings in Berry.

Price? $13.50 per pair.

Oh my goodness, they are adorable. And lighter than air.

I bit the bullet this morning and photographed myself in them, so you can see the size. Morning face and morning hair calls for the softening effect on PicMonkey.

meearrings

You really didn’t think I was going to bare all with my ‘morning look’ did you? Ah, photo editing is a wonderful thing.

Today I am going to take better pictures of the earrings and will hopefully list them on Etsy later in the day. At the latest, tomorrow. It all depends on the light, my friends.

Isn’t my sister talented?

eararingetsypink

They’re listed!

I’ll see you at 8:00 pm EST for A Favorite Thing.

Happy Friday.

My Pretty Board, A Winner & A Scarf

January 31, 2013 at 10:08 am by Claudia

I just finished another scarf (I’ll show it at the end of the post) which necessitated some picture taking upstairs. Letitia, my dress form, lives up in the upstairs studio. I’ll digress for a moment and let you know that I plan at least 2 more Decorating on Flea Market Budget posts that will cover the den and the studio/craft area – whatever you want to call it. The bedrooms are off limits right now until I DO something with them. I’ve ordered some chalk paint to attempt to bring all the various pieces of furniture into something other than happenstance. We’ll see how that works out. I’m not holding my breath.

You know how you suddenly see something that you pass 100 times during the course of a week? And you re-acquaint yourself with it? As I was taking scarf pictures this morning, I did just that with my Re-Imagined Bulletin Board. That’s what I called it at the time I made it and that is what it’s called in the DIY list at the top of the blog.

BB

I had this old unused bulletin board in my closet and one day I just decided to play with it. I have lots of sheet music around here, so I found some that I didn’t need and glued it onto the cork. Painted the wood aqua, of course, with some antiquing glaze here and there. I bought the appliques when I was in California and figured, what the heck, why not use them?

This is my pretty board. As opposed to my bits and bobs board that’s next to the sewing machine or the bulletin board that’s next to the fridge in the kitchen.

The ‘C’ is from my pal Elyse, the bird is from The Vintage Rabbit, the ribbon on the right is from Andrea Singarella, the ribbon on the left is from Jeanne Oliver.

BBvowels

The Vowels print was given to me by Heidi. Perfect for my line of work, don’t you think? I really love and treasure this piece.

bbmhc

Jeanne designed this ribbon for me. Do I need to say how much I love it?

bbwish

Forgive me, but I can’t remember where I got the bird nest – I think it came as an extra with something I won in a giveaway. If one of you sent it to me, please let me know! The antique buttons I found in a shop on the way home from a working trip to Providence, Rhode Island (where I got to meet Elyse in person, but that’s another story.) I love the color of the buttons and the amazing graphics on the button card.

It’s good to see something with fresh eyes.

By the way, I’m glad to know I’m not alone in disliking Gone Girl. Apparently a lot of you feel the same way! I’m still getting comments on that book. Perhaps we need to form some sort of group? Or make T-shirts with a logo or something?

Speaking of books, the winner of a copy of The Expats is Noelle. Noelle, I’m sending you an email – if you see this before you get the email, please send me your mailing address. Congratulations!

And here’s the scarf – in keeping with the color theme of this post, it’s in aqua!

scarfblog1+

It’s nice and long, by the way. Would I like to keep this? Yes. But, ever unselfish, I am offering it to you.

Happy (windy) Thursday.

The Day the Shredder Died

January 15, 2013 at 9:11 am by Claudia

shredder

Yes, Scout is as shocked as you no doubt are.

It’s the shredder.

The sun came out for a portion of the day yesterday and the temperature soared to 50 degrees. After mailing a package and buying some groceries, I was ready to tackle the enormous job of shredding. (There are receipts in here from 2009. Need I say more?) I plugged it in, turned on the television and merrily shredded away.

Until the shredder died.

It doesn’t work anymore. This particular shredder has been around for many years and it finally gave up the ghost. Let me tell you, the sound of a shredder’s death rattle isn’t pretty. I think I got about ¾ of the way through my pile. And that was just the stuff in the basket. There’s a lot more to be dealt with around here.

Looks like I have to buy another shredder. Isn’t it enough that I hate shredding? Do I have to fork out money for another one?

Nevertheless, I did some shredding after months of avoiding it. So I’m going to give myself a pat or two on the back.

frontdoor

It was so nice yesterday that I had the front door open for a while. It made me happy. Most of the snow melted, Scout was able to move around the corral without contending with slippery ice. All was well. But of course winter has a bizarre sense of humor and we are due for 1 to 3 inches of a ‘wintry mix’ tomorrow. A wintry mix means snow mixed with rain. Which means it will be heavy. Which means I will be pissed off.

I received a little package in the mail from my friend Julie, who lives in Canada. She and a friend were out and about and they encountered a dollhouse/miniature shop. That was a lucky thing for me because she sent me these:

sewingmachine

This adorable sewing machine that is not unlike my featherweight.

knitting

And this sweet piece of knitting. Be still my heart. Thank you so much, Julie. This reminds me that the craft room/office is the only room in the dollhouse that has not been started. Time to get going on it!

And finally, a new scarf is in the Etsy shop:

scarfpeacockblue1blog

Oh so hard to photograph, but this color of silk/bamboo yarn is the most gorgeous peacock blue. It’s a true jewel tone and I’m crazy about it! The silk/bamboo combination is incredibly soft and silky to the touch. Update: Sold.

Happy Tuesday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
