Autumn Surprise(s)

September 21, 2009 at 11:23 am by Claudia

Our sedum Autumn Joy has the most intense color this year – I suppose it is because of all the rain. I love seeing this splash of color among the earth tones of Autumn. The garden is overgrown with maple leaves everywhere. Imagine my surprise when I saw this perfect little bloom:

At first I thought it was something else, then I realized it was my Butterfly Bush. Up until this year it hasn’t done much blooming – I forgot I had it! Tucked in amongst everything else, it is blooming beautifully and is a wonderful Autumn Surprise.

I have decided I love my new font and I’m keeping it! It makes me happy. That alone is reason enough, isn’t it? Thanks for all your comments – and your thumbs up for the font!

At 4 in the morning we were jolted awake by a piercing alarm – but only for a few seconds. We stumbled around trying to figure out which of the many detectors in this house went off. We have no idea. It didn’t last and never went off again. I don’t think it is anything wired into the alarm company or they would have called. We have two carbon monoxide detectors – but the windows were open and the one in the bedroom registered 0. There are also a few smoke alarms that are not wired into the main alarm system. Of course, I couldn’t get back to sleep for a while. Today I am convinced it was a fluke – dust or something setting off some alarm for a split second. Nevertheless, a frightening way to wake up in the night!

Alright, I must get going…hope your Monday is beautiful!

A Sunday Question for You

September 20, 2009 at 10:43 am by Claudia

I love the color of these Mums. I hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday. My husband is off to a wonderful restaurant to play and sing his music for Sunday Brunch. Those lucky people! I am getting a slow start but have lots of cleaning to do, along with walking the dogs, watching the Red Sox, and watching the Emmy Awards tonight. Normally, I don’t watch them but one of my former students is nominated for his role in The Big Bang Theory. I love this guy – he is so talented and such a wonderful person. Cross your fingers!

I am trying out a new font. It is called Papyrus – I have seen it on a few blogs and really like it. What do you think? Can you see it? Not every computer has the font, so what does your computer show? My other problem is that I would like the Post Title bigger and am having a frustrating time with it. I thought I’d ask my faithful readers what they think. If it doesn’t work for many of you, I may just revert back to the old font.

Drudgery has its Rewards

September 6, 2009 at 6:19 pm by Claudia

You’re saying, “That’s nice, Claudia, but boring. Why the photo of the porch railing?” Yes it is boring, but it is clean. I spent all of yesterday with a bucket of water and bleach scrubbing all the railings and posts. We have a big porch that wraps around the front and side of the house. There has been so much rain here this year that the railing was dirty, a little mildewy and parts of it had a green tinge. I should have tackled this earlier in the summer. Oh, that’s right, I wasn’t here until July! I know this isn’t earth-shattering, but it makes me feel good. That white is a lot crisper looking now and I love it.

Heidi called me this afternoon. An indie film shot a scene at her shop today. The setting was supposed to be a flower shop so the film makers brought dozens of roses. And they left them with her at the end of the day. She’s been giving them away to all her friends. I had just stopped mowing the lawn (an endless job on this property) and I ran down there to get some. Here is one of the bouquets (I’m saving the other for another post):

Some more views of these gorgeous roses:
There you have it – from the mundane: a clean porch railing – to the sublime: lavender roses. Have a wonderful Labor Day!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
