Flowers keep me sane (and very happy) – Part 2

January 30, 2009 at 8:43 pm by Claudia

Look what arrived at my apartment this afternoon:

The card said, “I love you. Your boyfriend.” No, I don’t have a man on the side….there is only one and he is boyfriend, best friend, fiancee, husband. The best guy in the world. He hadn’t even seen the earlier blog post about flowers; he just missed me.

Aren’t they beautiful?

Flowers keep me sane

Ever since the first day I arrived in San Diego (remember how depressed I was?) I’ve been buying fresh flowers for the apartment. The minute I bought a bouquet, I felt better. Back in New York I would be looking at the snow and yearning for my garden. Here in San Diego everything is blooming and my allergies can attest to that fact. I still can’t garden but I can have fresh flowers. Trader Joes is just a few blocks away and Whole Foods is just a bit further down the road. Between them, I am flush with flowers. The Gerber daisies in the top photo are on the coffee table, the little roses are a welcome gift from the teacher I am replacing, and the asters are on a table by the front door. They make a huge difference in the ambiance of this little apartment. Do you keep fresh flowers around your home?

Spring

April 18, 2008 at 4:42 pm by Claudia

When I posted last week, this little daffodil had not opened. There she is! There is only one so far, but there will be more. I also have another type of daffodil in the shade garden that has yet to show herself. Spring has sprung here. The past few days have been unusually warm, and I see the Hostas, day lilies, and many others pushing their way up through the soil.

Here is a glimpse of the forsythia that blooms in the woods on our property. I love that fiery yellow.

And here is a picture of one of our Catalpa trees right by our drive. This hole is home to a group of honey bees that return annually. With all the worry about colony collapse, I was glad to see them back. Unfortunately, this photo doesn’t show them flying in and out, but they are.

Hope your week has been a good one. I am going out of town for two weeks on business Monday. Unfortunately, I don’t have a laptop, so I will be unable to post. But I will take pictures and share them with you when I get back. I’m sure the garden will have really taken off while I’m gone!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
