A Holiday Season Giveaway from 20 North Ora

December 4, 2012 at 9:17 am by Claudia

In the spirit of the season, I’m hosting a giveaway today. My pal, Judy, has generously offered to give away one of her wonderful pillows. If you don’t yet know Judy, you should. She has a very, very popular Etsy shop, 20 North Ora, and a blog with the same name.

She creates the most wonderful pillows and stockings from luscious fabrics, vintage and new. She crafts (check out her adorable bottle brush trees on wooden spools.) I’ve had my eye on that pillow in the center for a while. You know I love vintage embroidery. She sells some of her thrifting finds. There’s nothing that our Judy can’t do. Quite frankly, she has more energy in her little finger than I have in my whole body!

Not only that, Judy has the most generous of hearts. She is truly wonderful. She given me 3 out of the 4 Nisse I have in my collection:

The largest one in the center? She made it.

I rest my case.

Today, my friends, Judy is giving away this beautiful pillow:

It is 12 x 12 inches. The fabric is a reproduction of a vintage Christmas handkerchief. The back is finished in the same red and white polka dot as the cording.

Adorable. And perfect for the season.

Of course you’d like it! To enter, leave a comment on this post and tell me how you would use this in your Christmas decorating. That’s all. I’ll draw the winner’s name on Thursday, December 6th at 8:00 pm est. This giveaway is open to residents of the United States only.

By the way, Judy is having a big sale at her Etsy shop – every item, 20% off. Use the code CHRISTMASSALE2012.

Thanks so much, Judy!

Happy Tuesday.

LoveFeast Table Velvet Pumpkin Giveaway

September 27, 2012 at 9:45 am by Claudia

I have an exciting giveaway for you today. I’m sure you’ve seen these gorgeous velvet pumpkins as you’ve been out and about in blogland. I sure have.

Chris Ann and Kristin are two friends who now live several states apart. They started LoveFeast Table as a way to “curate beauty for all those who would gather around this table.” Their site is chock full of interesting and helpful tips and their shop The LoveFeast Shop carries hand-crafted and artistic items, including these velvet pumpkins. They also give back to those in need with The Kitchen Project that is helping build a Children’s Home and Community Center in Mexico, and the Traveling Cookbook, a project to raise awareness and funds for a Mobile Pack Unit for Feed My Starving Children. The unit will provide “100,000 meals for starving children in the highest needs area of the world.” You can read all about Chris Ann and Kristin on their site.

If you visit the site, you can watch a short video in which Chris Ann and Kristin talk about their friendship and how that friendship spawned the idea for LoveFeast Table. Their plates are full – they each have children and busy lives – but they’ve created something quite wonderful together.

I love seeing women band together in a creative endeavor and one that also helps those in need. Since Brenda and I are two friends who met through blogging, we thought it would be a perfect idea for each of us to host a giveaway for these pumpkins on the same day. So make sure you head on over to Cozy Little House for another chance to enter.

Trio Set: Set of 3 – 6 inch, 5 inch and 4 inch. All of LoveFeast’s Velvet Pumpkins, Acorns and Mushrooms are meticulously hand-stitched and handcrafted out of natural organic stems and luxurious velvet fabrics. LoveFeast Shop exclusively carries the velvet colors of Sage and Mushroom.

The winner of this giveaway will be able to choose one of the Trio Sets from the web site. There are even more possibilities than the four trios I chose to show you today! (You know, of course, what trio I would choose for myself. Hint: Turquoise.)

To be entered: Just leave a comment on this post telling me where in your home you might display these pumpkins. The winner will be chosen by the Random Number Generator on Saturday night and announced on Sunday.

Happy Thursday.

Work Resumes on the Dollhouse

July 19, 2012 at 10:40 am by Claudia

Most of the time, the outside of my dollhouse faces us as we sit in the living room. Since I’m in this room a great deal lately, watching over my Riley, I sauntered on over to it this morning and turned it so that the inside of the house was facing me.

Yikes.

I haven’t done any work on it for a long while. Some of the rooms are on their way to being finished, others are completely untouched and serve as a catchall for all my wood and trim scraps. I grabbed some paint and a paint brush and redid a side table that was very dark in its former incarnation.

There it is next to the chair. My friend, Heidi, gave me some furniture that was in a dollhouse she got at auction. Most of it is unusable, but a few pieces are just right – like the table.

The den is pretty much finished. I just have to add some crown molding and, of course, some decorations for the walls. (You can tell I was styling these photos – the same basket of flowers that was in the living room is now on top of the cabinet.)

The bedroom needs a bed. I’m envisioning something painted in a shabby white.

The kitchen has the Aga range and a table and chairs. It needs cupboards, a sink and a refrigerator.

The bathroom and the studio are completely unfinished.

Time to get cracking.

By the way, my darn camera has some dust under the top edge of the lens and I have to crop every photo around it. It’s not so much of an issue outdoors, but when I take photos inside the house, oh my goodness, is it annoying.

I want a new camera. I’ve said that before on this blog many times, but I thought I might take this opportunity to gently remind the universe.

Yesterday, I decided to mow the front part of the property and neglected to check the weather. 97 degrees with high humidity. Many hours later, with many breaks sandwiched in, it was finished. What was I thinking?

A little business: the winner of a copy of Night Watch never contacted me, so I drew another number and this time, the winner is Rosedel. Rosedel is a fairly frequent commenter on this blog, but I don’t have her email address. Rosedel, send me an email (look under Contact under my header) with your shipping address and I’ll forward it on to the folks at TLC Book Tours.

Don’t forget to check out my Connecticut Tourism post here. You have an opportunity to win $1000 to  put toward your very own trip to Connecticut!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
