Summer Roses and White Cabbage Butterfy

May 20, 2009 at 1:38 pm by Claudia

I recently won a giveaway from my artist friend, Helene Glehen. Helene lives in France and is tremendously talented. I marvel at her beautiful watercolor and oil paintings. You must visit her blog and see her beautiful creations.

Yesterday, I checked my mail at the Theater and there was an envelope from France. This was inside.

This original watercolor is entitled: Summer Roses and White Cabbage Butterfly. Isn’t it lovely? The colors are a bit off; I’ve tried to get them as close to the original as possible.

I am so thrilled, Helene! Thank you so much! I cannot wait to frame it and hang it in Mockingbird Hill Cottage.

I Talk Too Much and My Treat from Karla

May 13, 2009 at 12:54 pm by Claudia

I thought I’d get another post up ~ I looked back at the last post and thought, sheesh, I talk too much! That is what my first grade teacher Miss Brown accused me of. She was a steely, tough, old-fashioned teacher who told my Mom that I was the only student she had ever had in all her years of teaching who, as she looked me in the eye and told me to be quiet, looked away from her and kept on talking. Yes, its true. Miss Brown was hard on us, but I learned to read and developed a life-long love of reading because of her. Thanks, Miss Brown, and sorry for talking so much. There’s just so much to say!

I won a giveaway at Karla’s Cottage and my package arrived yesterday. She made this wonderful cupcake charm! Isn’t it adorable? Thank you, Karla! If you haven’t visited her blog, you should. She is amazingly creative, has an adorable granddaughter, her house is to die for and wait until you see her studio! Stop by ~ you’ll be delighted.

I am up to my eyeballs in run-throughs, dress rehearsals and Don arrives tomorrow night. I hope we can grab a lot of time together. Keep your fingers crossed.

At Home

April 6, 2009 at 12:57 pm by Claudia

Yes, friends, I am home at the cottage for a visit and it is heaven! After a brief time readjusting to a different time zone, I have settled in. I must say it is a bit strange to come home to my house, the place I am used to cleaning, spiffing and having control over, and finding it has been under my husband’s control. Do you know what I mean? Of course, I know he has been taking care of everything in my absence, but when I came in the door on Saturday night I saw that it was really true. I felt I had to get to know my house all over again. I don’t know if that makes sense – it is an emotional reaction to being away from my nest. And to a control person like me, knowing someone else has been in control is unsettling. My husband has done a splendid job and I’m proud of him. But I will be glad when I am back in my nest for good (and am in control again!)

Two lovely boxes were awaiting me when I arrived. The first was from Betzie and held the pink glass salt and pepper shakers I won in her giveaway. Aren’t they pretty? She also included some of her handmade soaps in a pretty pink bag! Thank you Betzie!

The second box contained two pincushions I ordered from Betty (one of our fellow Pink Saturday bloggers, as is Betzie.) I love these! Betty creates such fun, whimsical pincushions and I just had to have one. Make that two. Thank you Betty!

I also came home to these two:

It is so wonderful to be with my babies again. We’ve been having a wonderful time together. Don says that Riley (our quiet one) is like a different dog now that I’m home. He’s much livelier. I think they both feel our absences deeply and are happiest when the ‘pack’ is intact right here in Mockingbird Hill Cottage. By the way, when I pulled out my camera, Scout immediately sat and posed. That girl loves the camera!

I want to start cleaning out the garden but it is raining. That is not fitting in with my plan. Ah well. Husband made pancakes this morning, the dogs are lying beside me as I blog, I can hear the rain on the roof. All is well.

More later.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
