Tuesday morning

March 31, 2009 at 12:54 pm by Claudia

Does this ever happen to you? You get up, blindly walk to the coffeemaker, get out the filter, measure the coffee, pour fresh water into said coffeemaker, walk blindly to chair, wait until coffee is done, walk blindly back to kitchen, pour coffee, drink coffee…and at some point when you are a bit more awake you realize that there are grounds in your cup? The darn filter has folded over on itself again! For some reason this causes the grounds to deposit themselves right back in the coffee. I find it usually happens when I am nearing the end of my stack of filters. Back to coffee maker, dump out coffee, clean out filter housing, insert new filter, scoop more coffee into filter, pour fresh water….ah! much better.

That’s how my morning started out, along with a slight sinus headache and not quite enough sleep. Nevertheless, I am determined to move on, so let’s look at some more eggs ~

I have been making more fabric eggs. I am a bit addicted. These are about ready to be sewn up. However, in the course of my packing for the trip out here, I neglected to bring a basic needle and thread. I have tapestry needles, needles to sew up seams in my knitting (let’s ignore the fact that I have done exactly none), quilting thread…no regular needle and thread. Note to self: get some today. I am taking these home on Saturday to spring up the old homestead.

In keeping with my determination to be positive, another bouquet has arrived courtesy of Trader Joe’s. I know that my daffodils are starting to emerge at the cottage, but I am not so sure I will see them bloom during my brief visit home. Yes, I’m keeping my fingers crossed, but in the meantime I am enjoying these.

Have a wonderful day.

Pink Saturday

March 28, 2009 at 1:01 am by Claudia

It is time for our favorite day, Pink Saturday! Beverly of How Sweet the Sound hosts this weekly event. Be sure to stop by her blog and visit all the participants.

I have two things to share with you that I bought at last Saturday’s Barn Sale at La Maison Rustique. First up:

An incredibly cute Scottie made from pink chenille! I saw this little guy and I had to have him. (I’ve decided he’s a boy even though he is pink. And why not?) The chenille is vintage and the bow is a soft green. What do you think I should name him? He currently lives on the bed, tucked up against the robin’s egg blue pillow shams.

Next we have a little pretty for me to wear…I was about to pay for my purchases when I spied this in a glass case at the register. I soon tried it on and that was that.

I love this necklace! It is so beautiful ~ I can’t wait to wear it!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Pink Saturday and an equally wonderful weekend!

Fun at La Maison Rustique

March 22, 2009 at 11:01 pm by Claudia

Well, I promised you photos of the Barn Sale at La Maison Rustique and here they are! I have to tell you, I had such fun at this fabulous once-a-month event. If you’ve never been, it is located about an hour north of San Diego in Temecula – wine country. As I drove down the road in Temecula toward the sale, I saw several hot air balloons overhead. I passed winery after winery. It is absolutely beautiful there. The sale is only on two days – Friday and Saturday – and it is very popular. I spoke to a family that had driven from Las Vegas just for the sale. They got up at 4 in the morning and drove 4 hours – one way!

I love the barn that is La Maison Rustique. Isn’t it charming? Linda is the creator of the event – and the barn is hers. There are many talented women behind the scenes, styling, creating, selling – the vignettes they have created are wonderful. As I walked toward the barn, what did I see? Paintings by one of my favorite artists, Christie Repasy. I made a beeline toward them and started speaking with a woman in the booth who I soon discovered was Christie herself. She is a lovely person and I spent quite a bit of time talking to her about her work, what inspires her, her children and her home in Laguna Beach. Her paintings are predominately of roses and other flowers and they are gorgeous. She was so generous with her time. I spent a good long while deciding what painting to buy…I would look at everything, go away, come back, and go away again until I finally decided. I’ll share those with you another time! Here is Christie in her booth, along with some more photos of her work.

The following photos are some of the vignettes throughout the barn.

I have a glider like this and now I am inspired to make some cushions like these.

The attic of the barn had lots of fabric.

Wouldn’t this porch swing look great at Mockingbird Hill Cottage?

This is Sherry. She is a stylist and creates many of these vignettes and also sells some wonderful things.

Here is my friend Joy with Sherry – Joy also sells her things here.

There’s much more, but to tell you the truth, I was so busy looking at everything, talking to everyone and enjoying the morning that I had to remind myself to take pictures! I wanted this cupboard, the doors were painted with chalkboard paint – unfortunately, I can’t buy furniture while I’m here. (Sometimes I fantasize about not flying home but renting a van instead and loading all my stuff in it when I leave here. You can bet I would be loading that porch swing right into the van!

I had a great time, met some fascinating women (many of them bloggers) and will definitely go back next month. Hope you enjoyed the show!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
