Sunday

May 13, 2018 at 9:55 am by Claudia

A chilly, gray day after lots of rain yesterday. I had to turn the heat on this morning! Temps will be back to normal tomorrow and in the meantime, I’m going to try to get more work done today and tomorrow, as it looks like we have a rainy week ahead.

Don isn’t coming home for his day off for a few reasons. His longtime friend is visiting NYC and he’s having dinner with him tonight and then on Tuesday, he has an afternoon rehearsal for an event later in the week where the cast will be performing. It’s a pretty busy week for him and trying to get home for one day isn’t all that restful. I may go in, but I doubt it, as Monday is one, if not the only, dry day on the docket for the week. Grass needs to be mowed! Plants need to be planted.

Next week, he’ll be home for an extra day, so that makes up for this weekend. It’s all good.

I had a great time with Rick and Doug. They’ve had a garden designer and crew in for the last week and the changes the designer made are really thoughtful and smart. The property had been neglected for the past few years, so there was a lot of clearing out to be done. It looks lovely and will look even lovelier as some time passes. It’s such a pretty property. And they’ve discovered that they have dogwoods (gorgeous!) and crabapples and they are all blooming at the moment. Heaven!

Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms. And that includes moms of animals, students, nieces and nephews, grandchildren – even plants. I miss my mom and I miss being a mom. But I’m very grateful for the mom I had and will have forever and for all the dogs I have mothered, for my nieces and nephews and godchildren, and for all my former students. Mothering comes in many forms. A special Happy Mother’s Day to my sister, who is such a terrific and fiercely devoted mom to her boys (including two furry boys.)

Happy Sunday.

Things to Do, Cars, Flowers & Mom

July 31, 2017 at 7:54 am by Claudia

Coneflowers self-seed so, over the years, they’ve spread throughout the garden, but this year! This year there are more than ever. I love it.

Every time I look at this photo, I see the reflection on the door and, for a moment, I think it’s one of the dogs. I have pictures of both Riley and Scout watching me from the other side of the glass. I catch my breath and am reminded of how much I miss them. Every day. It never stops.

We had fun at the car show yesterday. It was an absolutely beautiful day but I should have worn a sun hat. The bright sun beating down on all of us as we walked around this big, open field was sort of exhausting. There were a lot of cars, many of them of the newer variety. I really like the older cars, so I got a little bored after a while. I did see my faves: vintage Thunderbirds and mid-sixties Mustangs.

I can’t help it, I’m from Dearborn, Michigan, home of the Ford Motor Company. I grew up with test tracks, World Headquarters, manufacturing plants, and Fords everywhere. Several of the parents of my friends helped design those cars. I told Don that if we ever have mad money, I’d like a ’65 Mustang, please.

I’m leaving in a week and a half and I have so much to do. I’m rather overwhelmed at the moment, so I need to drink a second cup of coffee and start making some lists. I haven’t even seen Darko’s version of the script yet, though I know it’s on its way to me. Yikes. Too much to do, including prepping for the arrival of the stove. (It won’t be for a while yet, but our propane/boiler guy is coming a week from tomorrow to check things out.)

Today would have been my mom’s 90th birthday.  Happy Birthday, Mom. You are in my heart always. I miss you.

Happy Monday.

A Bit Blue

August 6, 2016 at 9:46 am by Claudia

8-6 limelights

Saturday morning. Light rain falling.

There was a flurry of mowing yesterday because we thought it was going to rain all day today, which now looks not to be the case. Don was out and about yesterday morning, so I started in on the largest swath of the front lawn while he was away. And, you guessed it, I mowed a bit longer than I should have. That, coupled with waking up at 5 am, made Claudia a tired girl. Don came home and finished everything off, thank goodness. We still have to do the back, but that can wait.

I love seeing the lawn just after mowing; a lovely gorgeous expanse of green – nicely green thanks to the three days of rain we had last week. Since we live in the country there are a mix of grasses and weeds that make up our ‘lawn.’ This is not the land of manicured lawns, though most everyone mows and keeps everything neat. I grew up in suburbia and I well remember the fertilizing, edging, and manicuring that went on all over my neighborhood.

I like this better. And I don’t use chemicals anyway, so the lawn is what it is. I need to get a Fit Bit so I can figure out just how many steps I take when I mow.

8-6 daylily

These daylilies have been fabulous this year. Constant blooms – and a lot of them. I think we’re drawing to an end, though. I’ll miss these beauties.

8-6 lantana

I’m missing my bunnies and Henry. I did see Henry very briefly about a week ago and one of the larger rabbits. But baby bunny? Nope. They disappeared during the heat wave and haven’t come back. I spent a fair chunk of time observing them and I miss them. I still look for them several times a day, but so far…nothing. I’m wondering if this happens every year and I simply forget about their patterns by the time the next year rolls around.

With Scout gone, I guess I counted on their presence a bit more than usual.

It’s sort of a blue day today. Mom’s birthday was last week. Dad’s estate has just been settled, which is a good thing; however, it is an ending of sorts that brings sadness. And I miss Scout.

Happy Saturday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
