Walking with my Girl

May 8, 2012 at 7:30 am by Claudia

Little Miss Scout and I took a walk yesterday morning. It was a bit cloudy and mysterious and awfully beautiful.

“The woods are lovely, dark and deep…”
A lovely interlude with my little girl. I was all set to mow when I got back, but the friggin’ lawn mower isn’t working. Not good. At this time of year, we have to mow a lot. I won’t be back here for about 9 days and that’s a lot of grass growing time.
The good news? I just found out that tech is taking a bit longer than planned, so I get to stay here one more day. I’ll go back on Wednesday. That works out beautifully, as Don’s day off is Wednesday and he won’t have to do the ‘drive Claudia to Hartford, go home, change, and go to work routine.’
Smile.

Let’s Talk Turkey

April 1, 2012 at 8:30 am by Claudia

Some days have a sort of strange synchronicity. Yesterday morning, when I arose, I spotted 4 or 5 wild turkeys in our back yard. I stood there watching them for a few moments as they slowly walked through the bushes to my neighbor’s yard. I usually see them on our property about 2 or 3 times a year.

Later that day, I was sitting in the den when I spotted a couple of large birds landing on the roof top of my across-the-road neighbor’s house. I grabbed my camera and quietly made my way out on to the porch.

This is a shot of the roof top of the two-story house.

There was another bird hovering in the tree.

How about a closer look?

Turkey Vultures. Soon after this picture was taken, one swooped down to the ground. Then the other followed. The third guy kept watch from the tree.

They eat carrion and I smelled skunk last night and again today… so maybe that’s what they were feasting on.

I don’t want to know.

I did a little research. They are non-aggressive, fairly gentle birds. They come up this way in the spring, which explains why I don’t see them all that often.  I was really lucky to get this shot.

Wild Turkeys and Turkey Vultures. All in one day.

A Windy Friday

January 13, 2012 at 12:17 pm by Claudia

This is the kind of weather day that makes me want to climb inside the dollhouse for extra protection. The winds are relentless, I can hear them constantly. I worry about the trees, which seem to be losing more and more limbs lately. I used to like the sound of wind. No more. It makes me edgy and nervous.

I had a long day yesterday: four hours of driving in the rain, a full day of rehearsal – all on about 4 hours of sleep. But it was a good day, as well, with a terrific group of actors to work with and a director who is a truly nice person as well as very talented. Got home around 9 p.m., ate some pizza and went to bed. I’m catching up on all my email and comments. Thanks so much for all the wonderful, supportive comments on my two projects. I love creating and it’s tremendously satisfying, but it’s even more so when I can post photos and get such wonderful feedback from friends.

I want a real-sized version of this sofa in my living room.

Anyone want to climb in the dollhouse with me? We could have a cup of tea or coffee and a nice, cozy chat.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
