Walking in the City

February 21, 2018 at 8:00 am by Claudia

Just a quick post this morning as I have to get ready to leave for home and we’re leaving at 10. It’s been a lovely time here in the city, though Don has had – understandably – to be at the theater a lot of the time. But we catch time together when we can and for that we’re grateful.

After our late breakfast at the Diner, I took the subway to the Upper West Side and stopped in some bookstores, as well as The Sill (shocker: I didn’t buy any plants.) I just walked around for about 20 blocks, but after a while I headed back to the apartment. It’s all great, but it’s much more fun when I’m exploring with my husband. It also takes a while to get used to the pace of the city.

Almost too warm today, given that every business still has the heat on! But, I’m not really complaining.

Along the way:

A church under the – finally – blue sky.

The entrance to an apartment building. Love those doors.

Some window boxes that are ready for Spring.

Happy Wednesday.

On Tuesday (Sometimes I Just Can’t Think of a Title)

February 20, 2018 at 9:31 am by Claudia

There’s new growth on our apartment ZZ plant. And, though you can’t see it, I assure you there’s another baby coming out of the soil as well. Don had neglected to water the Chinese Evergreen, which was looking alarmingly droopy when I arrived. Some watering revived it. I have faced the fact that not only will I have to remember what plants need watering at home in the cottage, I’ll have to keep a  list for this place as well. Then a call will be placed to Mr. Broadway, in which I will tell him to water the plant while I’m on the phone.

Maybe via FaceTime, so I have proof.

Just before I took this photo, there was a cacophony of horn blowing as someone had double parked on the street which caused a traffic backup. Very NYC: If someone or something is not moving, lay on the horn.

Yesterday was a gray day and I underdressed, thinking it would feel warmer than it actually did. Nevertheless, I walked around 20 blocks to the Apple Store where I had to pick up a couple of things. I do like the convenience. At home, I have to drive for an hour to get to one. Then, of course, my bladder was alarmingly full, so I had to do the usual “Does this place have a public bathroom?” frantic search until I finally found one. That in itself is exhausting. I ran a few errands, took a few pictures, walked over 40 blocks in total and then went back to the apartment.

On my route:

Lincoln Center.

Further down the street and, coincidentally, right where I found a bathroom.

I’ve heard tales of how insanely busy the Whole Foods is at itsColumbus Circle location. I now have proof that it’s true. It’s overwhelming. And irritating. Next time, I’ll go to the one by Bryant Park. Much more civilized.

Don came home on his break and made dinner and then went back to the theater for Preview #3. We’re going to have breakfast at a local diner this morning before he heads to rehearsal. And I’m going to head to the Upper West Side because I love it there. Then home tomorrow. I’m hitching a ride with Doug.

Happy Tuesday.

Escape to New York City

February 19, 2018 at 9:10 am by Claudia

I never tire of the building facades in New York City. This one, with its painted bricks and green trim, was charming.

I got to the apartment around 3 pm and my husband was there to greet me. After some late lunch, we took a walk around midtown.  It was lovely.

When I first saw this sign, I assumed this was a company that makes rubber stamps. It’s a large building, so it was presumably their factory. Or so I thought.

But no! It’s for stamp collectors! I felt like I was transported back to my childhood! Isn’t that amazing? They had beautiful stamps on display in the windows. Right in the middle of Midtown – a shop devoted to stamp collecting.

I love New York.

Would Don and I look silly driving around town on twin Vespas? We rather like the idea.

We had dinner at the apartment because Don has but one day off and he’s tired. We just wanted to chill out. And then we cuddled on the sofa (which we do every night we’re together) and watched Ice Dancing.

I didn’t have time to watch CBS Sunday Morning when it aired because I was, sadly, shoveling snow. But we saw it later in the day. A very nice profile of Jimmy. I’m glad you saw it! I had messages about it throughout the day on this blog and Instagram.

Don said the cast will be performing on one of the morning shows in March. I’m not sure which one (maybe Today?) or when, but I’ll alert you when I do know.

As I left the cottage yesterday, the snow was already melting. I have a feeling that when I return on Wednesday (a 70 degree day) it will have all but disappeared.

Happy Monday!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
