Decorations in the Miniature World

December 21, 2024 at 9:05 am by Claudia

We got about 2 inches of snow and it’s quite lovely out there! Tonight and tomorrow will have lows in the single digits so I’m hoping the snow lasts through Christmas. Fingers crossed.

An interesting thing happened yesterday. I got a call from the USPS. My first thought was that it was a scam, but for some reason, I picked it up and it was a woman named Melanie from Customer Care in Albany, checking on the package from Spain that I had been tracking. I told her it had arrived but that I was checking on another delivery (the Etsy sale) and she started tracking it on the phone. She checked all the little details that we don’t see and said she thought she saw some movement and that she would get back to me on Monday. We had a quite a long conversation and she was really helpful. Sure enough, the package moved from Grand Rapids, MI to Richmond, VA later in the day. All in all, a very satisfying experience!

A little tour of some ‘small’ Christmas decorations:

The putz house village. When it’s sunny, the light comes through the windows of the houses – many of them look like stained glass.

The vintage Lake House. If you look closely, you can see the tree in the window.

There it is.

A glittery gold tree inside the entrance to the other vintage dollhouse.

And Santa arriving with a beautiful wreath.

I love these little touches, things that I know about, but no one else does. I doubt whether Don has noticed this Santa yet, but he will.

Whoops! I forgot about Hummingbird Cottage! (I’ve already shown you Dove Cottage, though I had to check back through my posts to verify that.)

The tree is always placed upstairs in the den.

A little tree in the bedroom.

And one by the front door.

A wreath on the newel post.

And the tree through the window.

The decorations in my real life house are kept to a minimum – the tree, the putz houses, a few little vintage treasures here and there. The rest of the decorations are in the miniatures. And that includes the doll cubbies, which I’ll share with you on Monday,

Tonight, The Shop Around the Corner, and on Sunday, It’s a Wonderful Life.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

A Very Soggy Monday

December 18, 2023 at 9:15 am by Claudia

It has rained and rained and rained and is still raining this morning. We got about 3 inches overnight. It’s some storm that came up from the Gulf, but we were already drenched here and definitely did not need more.  Who would have thought that a week before Christmas we’d be getting rain instead of snow? And – at least through January 1st – there is no snow on the horizon.

I’m still a bit under the weather but I’m definitely feeling better than I was. Don is also feeling much the same. We were as sure as we could be that we didn’t have Covid, but we ran a test last night anyway. Negative.

We just feel crappy, that’s all.

I wasn’t sure where to put the putz houses this year. Their former space was on top of the music cabinet which is now upstairs, having been replaced by Blythe headquarters. I put them on the bookshelves, but their sweet colors were lost among the colorful book jackets.

So I moved some things off the little spinet desk and here you go. I’m always tempted to start looking for more of them when I see them here and on various IG accounts. But I didn’t do any antique shopping this year, so I haven’t added to the collection.

This seemd like an appropriate place for this little guy.

I’ve sold a few  smallish pieces of aqua McCoy, but only a few. It’s my favorite color and I’m going to hang on to it. Activity in the Etsy shop has stopped for the last week. I suppose no one is buying at the last minute for Christmas. Plus, my shop has less McCoy than it had. There are other beautiful pieces including an incredible Roseville vase. I’m considering adding a few more pieces of McCoy.

I’ve been working on a beautiful puzzle and expect to finish it today or tomorrow. I’ll share a picture of it then.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

A Little Putzing Around

December 23, 2022 at 8:24 am by Claudia

My wee attempt at making a Putz house village on the top of the piano. I had limited space, as there is a lamp and a Bose radio/CD player sharing space with it. All of these houses and churches are vintage.

We’re on the same weather rollercoaster as much of the country. Heavy rain yesterday and all night long. We’re currently in a bit of a lull, then more rain/snow around noon with temperatures plunging from 49 degrees (our current temp) to 8 degrees. The high tomorrow will only reach 16. So far the roads seem clear. I guess the determining factor is how much precipitation we get while this dramatic change is happening later in the day.

Yesterday, I was at the library when they opened to pick up that book and managed to get back home before the ‘event’ started. Later on that afternoon, I got another message from the library saying a book I had on hold had arrived. So I’ll try to get there today around noonish to pick it up because they’re closed Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. It’s the newest Michael Connelly, by the way, and I was at least number 25 in the queue when I last checked a couple of days ago, so I have no idea how it turned up this quickly. It’s rather shocking.

Now I have three books that I have to finish by the first week of January. Hmmm. Don is now reading the book about Dorothy Kilgallen.

Our big decision: I will bake cookies today and Don will make the apple pie tomorrow. Frankly, it will help to have the oven going tomorrow – it’s going to be COLD.

Last night we watched The Shop Around the Corner. It has been a favorite of mine for years and years. And it’s now a favorite of Don’s. Ernst Lubitsch was a brilliant director and the cast is simply wonderful. Tonight, A Christmas Carol  with Alastair Sim – the only version we watch because Sim’s incredible performance spoiled us for any other. Tomorrow – It’s a Wonderful Life. On Christmas Day – White Christmas. That’s the lineup for this year.

Okay. One more post tomorrow before I take the day off on Christmas.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
