Shipping Department

February 11, 2012 at 2:11 pm by Claudia

Greetings from my shipping facility.

The kitchen. In my pajamas (of course.) Note box of donuts over on the counter.
My assistant, Riley.
This morning was all about wrapping and boxing.

Then a trip to the post office. The scarves are on their way! And one of Meredith’s shawls sold this morning. I guess we have a little business! I have all sorts of ideas for more handmade treasures. So does Mer.

Thank you for your orders. Thank you for your support.

As you can see, I’m still playing with fonts – this time with my watermark. I really like this one – unfortunately, it’s on Picnik. Darn it! Why the heck does Google have to mess with Picnik? I wish they’d rethink that ill-advised decision. Picnik is still the easiest, best way to make a collage and to edit photos. Google, are you listening?

What are your plans for the day?

Early, Early Morning

February 10, 2012 at 9:39 am by Claudia

Why was I awake at 5 a.m.? A case of the middle-of-the-night worry brain. Do you ever come down with that affliction? I sure do. So here I sit, drinking coffee, eyes a little irritated, pondering the day ahead.

Thank you for all the warm well wishes on the opening of our shop. And thank you to those of you who purchased one of our creations. I hope to get those packages out today – tomorrow at the latest. By the way, Meredith’s woven shawls are rectangular, light as air, and much more beautiful than my photos of them indicate. I have one and I wear it all the time. She’s got one in the mail to me (for the shop) that is a beautiful, ever-so-subtle sparkly gray.

I just listed another Obsession Scarf. This one is a gorgeous shade of Apple Green. The yarn is a combination of silk and bamboo – oh my gosh, it’s so silky and soft to the touch. I would wear this one all year round. Believe me, if I could keep it for myself, I’d do it in a heartbeat.

Some of you wrote me saying the link to the Etsy Shop wasn’t working. Every time I’ve tried it, it has worked. Don’t click on the Etsy Shop label. It’s just a sidebar label. Either click on one of the individual photos, or click on ScoutHarper (in blue) at the bottom of the widget. If you’re still having trouble, it may be a problem with your browser. Here is the link.

Playing with BeFunky. This is called Orton Style and gives a photo a sort of artsy blur. Interesting. Let’s move on to some flowers hit by this morning’s sunlight.

I see that my boy Riley is waking up (he always sleeps in.) Have to go help him up.

And something outside has caught Miss Scout’s eye.

Playing with the font again. Yay or Nay?

Have a wonderful Friday.

My Boys are Under the Weather

January 29, 2012 at 11:01 am by Claudia

Sunny skies on this Sunday morning. Thank you Old Man Winter. You’ll see photos of this particular view fairly often on the blog. This is what I see when I stand in the kitchen doorway and look up. That’s a maple on the left, the catalpa in the middle and our sugar maple on the right, along with a cast of thousands. We have a lot of trees.

My boy Riley had a very bad night. I woke up to discover he’d had some elimination problems (no big deal, we’re used to that now) and he’d somehow managed to get wedged half-way under the kitchen island. I can only imagine he panicked and, since he has problems getting around anyway, somehow slipped on the wood floor and couldn’t get up. When I managed to get him up, he kept collapsing. I finally got him outside where he regained a little strength in his legs.

He’s exhausted. Life is hard for my dear boy and I try to reassure him when he’s distressed or worried. Because he does worry. At this point in his life, nothing is worth one second of his feeling bad or guilty.

We try to make getting around as easy as possible. We lift him up and down the stairs. We help him up when his body is stiff and sore. When we look outside and see a mass of mud on the path to the corral, Don runs to the Agway to get some hay.

We cover the mud and tamp it down, so he can get a solid footing. (We put a bit too much down this time!) I vacuum up bits of hay every day. But if it helps Mr. Riley, I’ll vacuum ten times a day.

Don has a cold. Both my boys are having a tough time of it.

Scout and I are fine. Right, Scout?

What are your plans for this Sunday? Is it sunny in your neck of the woods?

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
