Birdbath & Would You Do Me a Favor?

June 23, 2011 at 8:18 am by Claudia

Every birdie needs a bath. This little one came back several times, especially after I changed the water just for him.

I had 2 days of work in the garden and then the rains came. Yesterday morning we had a doozy of a thunderstorm. It seemed to go on for hours. With it came humidity and I’m afraid more of the same is due today. I’ve been cleaning and unpacking and worrying about Riley. He’s really had a hard time of it with an injury to his right hip. We don’t know how it happened…sometimes this sort of thing just takes over for several days and we worry and help him as best we can. In the middle of a “Should we take him to the Vet?” discussion, as if he knew just what we were suggesting and wanted no part of it, he started to show little signs of improvement.  We’re exercising him as often as we can and he seems find getting up and down a bit easier today. Our sweet boy – we sure love him.

May I give you a little heads up? Don has a big birthday tomorrow. One that he has been dreading. Hint: it starts with a 6 and ends with an 0. He wants to keep the day low-key, so we are having a couple of friends over for dinner and an evening of music with guitars and beautiful songs and the creative expression that makes Don happy. A little gift giving will be done, (the big gift, if you remember, is our trip to Fenway Park in September for a Red Sox vs. Yankees game) some sugar-free apple raspberry pie (from the Julian bakery in Julian, CA) will be eaten and hopefully, the day will be a happy one.

I’m going to write a Happy Birthday post for him later today. Would you all be so kind as to wish him a Happy Birthday? It would be such a wonderful surprise. I plan on showing him all the birthday greetings at the end of the day on Friday.

Thank you, my friends. My guy needs a little cheering up!

My Beautiful Babies

April 28, 2011 at 7:19 pm by Claudia

As soon as Scout hears my feet hit the stairs in the morning, she is raring to go. She wakes up with a smile on her sweet face. Her joy is infectious – she often goes into what we call a ‘pounce.’ Sometimes she’ll spin around. She’s hilarious.

Riley, on the other hand, is like his mother. He wakes up slowly.

While Scout is ready to go outside and take care of business immediately, Riley stays on the floor for a while. He may be there for a mere 10 minutes but he’s been known to stay there for 2 hours. Then suddenly, he’ll get up and head for the door.

They’re so quirky and individual, these little babies of mine. This is the part I hate – knowing that I’m leaving in 3 days and will be away from them for 7 weeks. They have no idea. At least Don knows and understands and has had time to prepare for it all. The minute Scout sees my suitcase, she’ll turn away from me. She won’t meet my eyes. I’ll explain as best I can why I have to go, but they won’t understand. This is the time my heart breaks a little.

Babies need their Mom. Mom needs her babies.

My heart goes out to everyone affected by the devastating tornados in the South. I hope and pray you are all safe. The weather here today was stormy and unpredictable. At one point, I was running errands south of our home when the radio broadcast a tornado warning for the area in which I was driving. The sky was frighteningly dark. I got out of the car and went into Target until the warning expired. That was unsettling but nothing like it must have been in Alabama and Georgia yesterday.

I also want to add that I am behind in blog visiting and commenting. I’ve so much to do before I leave. I don’t think I’ll be able to catch up until I get to Wisconsin and have some down time. Sorry!

Riley, Rehearsals, Skunks & Studios

February 24, 2011 at 10:48 am by Claudia

:: This is Riley looking longingly at the stairs, hoping that Dad will soon come down from his office. Riley loves his Dad. If he hears a sound coming from that general direction, he snaps to attention, all big brown eyes and tail wag. Riley’s favorite time of day is when Dad starts to prepare dinner. About 6 pm, he starts nagging. Then little whimpers. Then the pacing. He keeps this up until Don makes his move toward the kitchen. When that happens, this guy with bad hips practically leaps up the 2 steps leading into the living room from the den and trots into the kitchen.

Right now, as I write this, he is pacing back and forth, trying to see up the stairs. That’s because Don was just down here in the den and now has gone upstairs again. Soon he will begin worrying about when I am going to feed him. As if it just might not happen for the first time ever.

:: Last night we went to sleep with the delightful pungent smell of skunk throughout the house. This morning the smell is gone, thank goodness. When we looked outside, we could see tracks in the snow leading to our porch. Skunk tracks. All this, however, is a breeze compared to our skunk adventures when we were living in San Diego. Back then, they routinely got under our house and let loose with a smell that permeated everything in the house for days. Clothes, doorknobs – you name it. I lived in fear that I smelled like skunk. We tried everything to get rid of them. Nothing worked. And you know me well enough to know I would never consent to having them killed. No way. The little devils were very smart. We set out Hav-a-Heart traps and they never fell for the bait.

So last night, though annoying, was a breeze.

:: Yesterday was the last day in the rehearsal space. Now the cast moves onstage for tech rehearsals. I will be traveling into the city on Saturday for an 8 day stay while we are in the dress rehearsal/preview stage. I’ll be very busy with the play, but I will try to get out and about for some photo opportunities. It should be fun!

:: Thank you for all the wonderful comments about Don’s CD. I know some of you have downloaded the songs and others have written to request an autographed copy of the CD. We are very grateful for your support!

:: And thank you for all the lovely congratulations on my little studio’s appearance in Studios. I’m very happy. Another article to be framed!

Have a great day, my friends.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
