At Home

April 6, 2009 at 12:57 pm by Claudia

Yes, friends, I am home at the cottage for a visit and it is heaven! After a brief time readjusting to a different time zone, I have settled in. I must say it is a bit strange to come home to my house, the place I am used to cleaning, spiffing and having control over, and finding it has been under my husband’s control. Do you know what I mean? Of course, I know he has been taking care of everything in my absence, but when I came in the door on Saturday night I saw that it was really true. I felt I had to get to know my house all over again. I don’t know if that makes sense – it is an emotional reaction to being away from my nest. And to a control person like me, knowing someone else has been in control is unsettling. My husband has done a splendid job and I’m proud of him. But I will be glad when I am back in my nest for good (and am in control again!)

Two lovely boxes were awaiting me when I arrived. The first was from Betzie and held the pink glass salt and pepper shakers I won in her giveaway. Aren’t they pretty? She also included some of her handmade soaps in a pretty pink bag! Thank you Betzie!

The second box contained two pincushions I ordered from Betty (one of our fellow Pink Saturday bloggers, as is Betzie.) I love these! Betty creates such fun, whimsical pincushions and I just had to have one. Make that two. Thank you Betty!

I also came home to these two:

It is so wonderful to be with my babies again. We’ve been having a wonderful time together. Don says that Riley (our quiet one) is like a different dog now that I’m home. He’s much livelier. I think they both feel our absences deeply and are happiest when the ‘pack’ is intact right here in Mockingbird Hill Cottage. By the way, when I pulled out my camera, Scout immediately sat and posed. That girl loves the camera!

I want to start cleaning out the garden but it is raining. That is not fitting in with my plan. Ah well. Husband made pancakes this morning, the dogs are lying beside me as I blog, I can hear the rain on the roof. All is well.

More later.

The Annual Christmas Morning Bone Chew

December 27, 2008 at 12:12 am by Claudia

Christmas morning found Scout and Riley happily chewing their new Nylabones. They love them intensely for about 45 minutes and then that’s it. Happens every year. Great excitement at the thought of a present from Santa, jumping around, standing on hind legs to get the package, intensely chewing the bones and then the usual jealousy over the other dog’s bone. Then the trade. Then nothing. The bones eventually join all the other bones in the toy basket. Occasionally one of the dogs will pull one out and chew on it for a while – mostly Riley. Scout is usually interested only when Riley decides to chew a bone. Then, of course, she must have it.

Just another of our Christmas rituals.

Decorating is exhausting!

December 13, 2008 at 6:53 pm by Claudia

Oh not for me, for them. Supervising, sniffing, barking, smelling the tree…being told to “get away from the tree, your tail is knocking off the ornaments” – its a lot for a dog to deal with. Happily, they have the sofa to themselves at the moment. Do you think they’ve been good enough for a visit from Santa?

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
