My Mother’s Day

May 11, 2009 at 12:48 pm by Claudia

My latest update on the porch at Mockingbird Hill Cottage: my husband went to my favorite nursery last week and, using his camera phone, took photos of the hanging plants. My directive had been vague ~ ” I always have purple hanging plants, please look for them.” He did, and found these ~ phlox ~ which is exactly what I meant. Excellent job, dear husband!

Yesterday morning, as I was slowly waking up, drinking my coffee and reading blogs, the phone rang. It was my husband requesting my presence on Skype. I dutifully signed on and found the dogs wishing me a Happy Mother’s Day. Scout had on a Red Sox t-shirt and Riley had on a bowtie (apparently he objected to a t-shirt, but consented to wear the tie). I was treated to a close-up camera visit with my sweet dogs and lots of howling and barking. (One of the things we do with the dogs is to make a howling/baying noise and watch as they both stop whatever they are doing and sing along with us. Scout is queen of the wolf-like howl.) I must say I got a little teary – the good kind – at the sight of my babies. It was a great Moms day present from my family.

Speaking of my dear husband – he will be winging his way to San Diego this Thursday! While I am much busier this time around, we will make the most of our time together.

Pink Saturday

April 18, 2009 at 12:37 am by Claudia

Hello everyone! Its Pink Saturday again and that means that Beverly of How Sweet the Sound has a list on her blog of everyone participating. Thank you, Beverly, for all your work. Please visit all the other blogs showing their pink lovelies.

This little covered glass dish has hand painted roses on it. Heidi had it at the shop and I took it home with me (after paying for it, of course!) I use it to hold some of my jewelry.

I found this fabric at an antique shop. I love the pink flowers. Someday I will make something with it, but for now I’m happy looking at it.

I’ve wanted to post this little pink cutie for a while, but I had to go home to get just the right shot. When the sunlight is behind Scout, her little pink ears just glow!

I think she’s sleepy here or maybe just fed up with my camera.

Of course I’m her Mom, but she’s a cutie, isn’t she?

Happy Pink Saturday everyone.

Leaving On A Jet Plane

April 15, 2009 at 8:11 am by Claudia

This morning finds me feeling sad and emotional. I’m headed back to San Diego today. My little break with the family is almost over. Now I am looking at another 2 1/2 months away from my loved ones. These past ten days have been wonderful; but now I look at my dogs’ sweet faces and wonder how they’ll cope with me being gone again. Don says that Riley has been like a different dog since I’ve been back. Will he become depressed again? Scout is lying at my feet as I type this; how will she do? I love them so ~ they are my children. I absolutely hate being away from them.

Don is blue, I am blue – can I just say that I will never do this again? By this, I mean being gone from my loved ones for such a long time. I travel for my work off and on and I don’t mind being away for a few weeks. But not this long again. Ever.

Scout is feeling better. Her blood work came back clean and we are grateful. Both dogs have had Lyme disease and Scout’s levels are still high, so she will go back on antibiotics. Both dogs will take a joint health supplement and we have some Rimadyl for days when one or the other feels sore. (Riley has hip problems.)

My plans to have hanging pots on the porch and pots planted were dashed by a lack of plants at our local greenhouse. Makes sense, since I am doing all this about 3 weeks earlier than usual. So Don and I have decided he will go to the greenhouse in about 2 weeks, take camera photos of the hanging plants, send them to me, and I will choose the “appropriate” plant. But my pots, my window boxes….they will remain empty until July. I’m not happy, but what can I do?

This morning we are getting a new storm door for the front door. This house has no storm doors and we’ve been wanting some since we moved in. I persuaded husband that it would be especially nice this spring and summer. So, first the front door – next month, the side door!

I snapped this photo of the light from the skylight hitting my quilt the other morning. Lovely.

Have a wonderful day. I’ll be blogging from Mockingbird Hill Cottage West when next we meet.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
