Hello, Again

March 22, 2018 at 10:15 am by Claudia

Two things: We had a mass of dry air over the part of the Hudson Valley that is west of the Hudson River, and that dry air managed to keep the snow from falling during yesterday’s nor’easter. Only during the early morning hours of today did we get a smidgen of snow and it isn’t sticking to surfaces and should melt by the end of the day. We dodged a bullet. I know others were not as fortunate. The last two nor’easters have hit areas south and east of us much harder than here.

Second thing – I’m slowly feeling better. Still under the weather, but I can see light at the end of the tunnel. I just have to pace myself and by ‘pace myself’, I mean stay home and take it easy for a few more days.

When last I spoke with you I said I was going to run some errands before the snow came. I drove to Target and Lowe’s and the grocery store to get a few things. It was exhausting, but I needed to do it in case I was snowed in. I was efficiency personified as I swept through those stores, got everything I needed, and drove back home. While at Target, I somehow managed to scoop up a few non-essentials for the cottage.

I got this outdoor rug because, of course, it has a bunny rabbit on it. And I like the design. I also got a little pillow but I haven’t taken a picture of it yet.

And I scooped up this watering can because it’s so pretty.

I had to. I needed some cheering up!

By the way, I wish I had stock in Kleenex. I’m sure going through a lot of it at the moment.

I don’t think I’ll be up to marching on Saturday. I hope some of you are going to march! FYI: MSNBC is covering the Washington DC March for Our Lives all day Saturday.

Okay. Good to be back. But now I’m tired.

Happy Thursday.

Enough Already

March 13, 2018 at 7:59 am by Claudia

For heaven’s sake. Enough already.

We’ve now had three nor’easters in less than two weeks.

The only thing saving me from screaming my head off is that I’m leaving for NYC today. That means I don’t give a fig about plowing the driveway or shoveling the snow. In fact, I told our plow guy not to bother. Much of it will be gone by the time I get home.

I’m over it.

There are people who have not had power for almost two weeks and just got it back. Mother Nature, your little joke isn’t funny.

Anyway, I’m writing a quick post because I have to pack and get ready to head into the city. Let’s hope the buses are on time.

I want to see my husband. Today. No ifs, ands, or buts.

I’ll have more tomorrow, which has been officially dubbed “The Day Claudia Searches Frantically for Something to Wear.”

Happy Tuesday.

To the Rescue

March 9, 2018 at 10:06 am by Claudia

Those branches on the right were so weighted down by snow, they were touching the porch roof as well as the roof over our bedroom. By the time I took this picture they had revived. In fact, you can see the snow falling off the branches in this photo. That was a constant yesterday – no matter where I stood, I got smacked by heavy, falling snow.

Rescue arrived yesterday in the form of Doug and Rick. Rick checked in on me yesterday morning, saying that Doug had just purchased a battery operated chain saw that he was dying to use. In turn, I texted a picture of the huge limb, as I was skeptical that his chain saw could handle it. Undaunted, they came over and Doug immediately started in on the limb and darned if he didn’t do it! Rick and I carried wood to the wood pile, which is now the size of the Great Wall of China, full as it is of various limbs that have fallen off our trees during the 12+ years we’ve lived here.

My heart breaks every time it happens.

Rick even brought me a homemade muffin, that sweetie. Anyway, in no time it was all gone. Now I have to shovel that area this morning to make room for Don’s car. I was too tuckered out to do it yesterday.

Sinuses and/or allergies are crazy right now. I sneezed at least 30 times last night – and no, I’m not exaggerating. It was the strangest thing!

One of you – I’m sorry, I can’t remember who since this whole week has been overwhelming – asked where I keep the shelves that house my miniature pottery.

This little area is to my left as I sit here at the desk.

The embroidered picture of Scout is from Shanna. The Claudia program is from the original 1940s Broadway production  and was a gift from a friend who runs an antique shop. I found the shelves at Heidi’s shop when I worked there and I brought them home and painted them, covering the glass behind the shelves with toile scrapbook paper. The Michigan license plate (in honor of my home state) is from Don.

Thanks for all your kind words yesterday. It’s been a helluva week. Shoveling, recycling and a trip to the grocery store are on the docket for today.

Happy Friday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
