Small Things

March 13, 2019 at 10:45 am by Claudia

My little row of butter pats. I think I have about 14 or 15 now, most of them ironstone. Most of them, in fact,  are from the same dealer where I found the egg cup cubby. I love small things.

Another Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs egg cup came up for auction. Unfortunately, it was Doc. Doc frequently comes up for auction, much more than any other egg cup in that collection. I’ll keep hoping for Sleepy.

This morning there was such lovely bird song! Tiny little birds were in the tree outside the den window. I tried to identify them but I’m not sure; sparrows? chickadees? I couldn’t get a good look at them. Several of them were in the tree and they kept flitting from branch to branch. Now that I look at my bird book, I’m thinking they were sparrows. Hearing their song was such a nice way to start the day.

The sun is shining and the snow is melting. That’s all I need today.

I ordered this book, originally published in Great Britain. It just came out this week here in the States. I reviewed one of Garfield’s other books, Just My Type, several years ago. In Miniature  is all about our fascination with small things. Guilty as charged. Of course, I had to get it.

Today I have to sort through our many W2s – you have no idea – and send them off to our accountant in Los Angeles, so that we can file an extension. Since we have to wait for all of the W2s to arrive here, we almost never file our taxes by April 15th. And often, though not this year, one of us is away working. Then I’m going to clean the pew with some Murphy’s Oil Soap. And read, of course. I’m currently reading a book I’m going to review on Monday – all about birds! Stay tuned.

Happy Wednesday.

And It’s May

May 1, 2018 at 9:26 am by Claudia

I hope you don’t mind, but I’m not going to reply to yesterday’s comments, only because I had another sleepless night (must be a phase) and I have to write this post and drive Don to the bus station.

Short answer to your questions: Yes. I know the cats kill birds. I’ve found evidence.

We had a lovely low key day together, mostly hanging out at the house save for a lovely lunch in a neighboring town. We’re now into Wallander, which for some reason, I haven’t watched before. So well done. And Kenneth Branagh is perfect in the role. Lovely, understated performance.

Oh, before I forget: I was on Amazon yesterday and one of those ‘for you’ reminders came up. Much to my astonishment, since she said she wasn’t writing any more books in this series, Susan Hill has another Simon Serailler mystery coming out in November! Huzzah! I loved that series and was so disappointed when I thought we wouldn’t be seeing any more of Simon.

A lovely, velvety pansy.

Last night’s sunset. No filter, no enhancing. This is how it looked.

Spectacular.

The temps are going to be well over 20 degrees warmer than yesterday. Mid seventies. It’s sunny, as well. So even though I’m beat, I’m going to do some work outside as we have only two rainless days this week – today and tomorrow.

Happy Tuesday.

Sun & A Question

April 20, 2018 at 9:39 am by Claudia

I’d just like to point out that the sun is shining this morning. It may not last, but it’s shining. It’s still coldish and a little windy but the daytime warm up begins tomorrow. Huzzah!

I’m going to clean the porch railings this morning and sweep the porch. Then I’ll run some errands, including getting the Adirondack chairs out of storage.

It’s still going to be cold at night for the next couple of nights, so I’m not going to uncover the rest of the garden beds until early next week.

Maybe winter is finally making its exit?

Judy, a longtime reader of this blog, suggested something the other day. She, as so many of you do, always reads the comments. She would love to know where everyone is from. I think that’s a great idea! So, for today’s comments, tell us where you’re from. It can be a specific town or city, or it can be an area. How about this? Tell us where you were born and where you live now.

I’ll start. I was born in Detroit and raised in a suburb of that city. Eventually, I moved away and lived in Philadelphia, Boston, Cambridge, San Diego, and now I live in New York State in the Hudson Valley, just about 75 miles from Manhattan.

Do tell!

Happy Friday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
