Changing, Playing & Cleaning Up

October 24, 2011 at 10:42 am by Claudia

Doesn’t Fall seem to be a time for nesting? For changing things around, cleaning things up? My theory is that memories of “back-to-school-new-shoes-new-notebooks-and-pencils” are bred in our bones and once that cooler air hits, we want to renew and start fresh. That, and a need to nest in preparation for the coming Winter.

I’m definitely feeling it. Unfortunately, I’m not feeling it for the cottage. I’m feeling it for the dollhouse and this blog.

The blog has changed a bit lately, as you no doubt have noticed. A new header, a new background and now… a new font. Like an idiot, I stayed up until the wee hours last night because I suddenly got the urge to play with fonts. Lately, I’ve been wanting a cleaner, fresher looking blog and all these changes are being made with that in mind. Brenda will be happy – she had trouble reading the Papyrus font I’ve been using. We good-naturedly (spell check doesn’t like my word choice) argued about it. What do you think? Is this new font clear enough for you?

While Don was working late last night, I was watching the World Series and playing with the dollhouse. Two chairs have been painted and added to the kitchen.

This bookcase/armoire was a gift from Rizzi. I’m going to paint it a pale, pale aqua and put wallpaper backing behind the shelves.

Honestly, I was like a little girl last night. I pulled out my box of furniture and accessories and played house. I don’t have very much at the moment and I have a wish list a mile long, but it was such fun. (I love the way the sunlight pours into the room.)

I’d share the other things I did this weekend with you, but do you really want to see the enormous pile of tree limbs (courtesy of Hurricane Irene) that I dragged one by one into the woods?

Or the window air conditioners that were finally taken out of their summer homes and stored in the shed?

I thought not.

Unofficial Bed Maker vs Non-Bed Maker poll results:

Bed Makers:           29
Non-Bed Makers:     5
Hit-and-Miss:           6

Have a great Monday.

Okay, now I’ve changed the font again. This time to Century Gothic. I’m not sure which one I like better!

Now you will officially think I’m insane. I’ve changed it back to my original ‘new’ font.

I agree for the want to change things around in the fall. I also feel the need to change things in some way. My problem is that as I get older, it is more difficult to make those changes. I guess I am afraid of making the wrong decision …which is silly. I just love when you show pics of your doll house. it is such a sweet house and I can tell there’s a lot of love there!
    Blessings, Joanne

    Claudia,
I should just send you an email because my comment will be more of a Q&A session!
Yes, I have noticed the changes on your blog & love the look. Did you put the menu bar under your header or did someone else? If you did it was it hard? Love the new font, I have papyrus too & I’m sick of it. What is the name of that font, it’s very simple yet classic.
    Lastly, I promise……
I have been watching the dollhouse progress & think my little girl Lily is old enough to not destroy one (not sure about the brothers) I thought it might be a fun mother/daughter project. I’ve never seen such cool furniture at Hobby Lobby or Michael’s. The cottage looks just like you Claudia! Don’t you wish you could just shrink yourself like Stuart Little & spent the night there?:)

Great font change. Do you have to choose it every time you post or … how did you make the change ‘stick’?
Doll houses make a little world that stays the way you make it and no one messes it up. Love the progress.
    Lots of clean up work.

I just love the shabby chic look of your dollhouse! I’ve got a little cottage coming in the mail (won it in a giveaway), and shabby chic is the plan! I look forward to watching what you do with yours as time goes by.

Great font … much easier to read. Maybe I should look at mine as well. I imagine that you are pleased that the air conditioners and their “pretty” blue accessories are gone for the winter!

Oh, bed maker – first thing I do after having coffee.

Claudia, the doll house is adorable and looks like so much fun!!! Like Lisa said, I would like to shrink down to be able to hang out inside for awhile!

This week I am cleaning the house top to bottom, yard, too. Going through the attic, closets, drawers..organizing the chaos here.

Have a lovely week…off to read about Brenda now. Oh, the new font is great!!

    xxoo

Ok, I just laughed out loud when I saw that you posted the bed making poll results. So funny!
I’ve been in a fall nesting mood also. In fact, I’ve got my first batch of oatmeal cookies in the oven right now. The house smells so good!
I love those chairs in pink~ so sweet! I have that same cabinet and “wallpapered” the inside also. All this fun dollhouse goodness you’ve been posting is really inspiring me to want to want to work on The Little Pink House again. Your new floors still blow me away… so pretty!
    Hugs,
    Jill

Bed makers Rule! Woot! How funny. Dollhouse is looking quite HGTV worthy – now there’s a thought for a new show. I must be a total dummy because I didn’t notice the change in fonts – I didn’t even know they could be changed – hmmmmm, must investigate. Ann

Claudia, I like the new font. However, is it just me, or is it pale for everyone. I had to highlight it to be able to read it. On my computer, it is exceedingly pale. Your dollhouse is adorable. I love that little Michael hutch. I have a tons of those. You can do so much with them. Your little pink chairs are charming and look so very nice against the dark wood. I love it when you post pictures of your doll house. I’m happy to see that you’re having so much fun with it. Aren’t we all little girls at heart?

Claudia, I just noticed the time difference between my post and that of the other ladies. Perhaps you have done some changes? Could that be the reason why your font appears so pale to me? I don’t know. As for the bed making, every morning after breakfast, I make my bed and wash the dishes. I don’t have a dishwasher, so I don’t like to leave it on the counter. I have a small apartment and when I walk by my bedroom, it’s always so much more pleasant to see a bed all made up with my teddy bear and dolls in their rightful place. LOL! That’s just the way I am!

What a lovely blog! Though I don’t comment, I really enjoy your “diaries” and follow your blog. The doll’s house is very realistic! So nice! Lovely, in fact!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
