Christmas Plans

December 22, 2025 at 8:57 am by Claudia

We’re preparing for some snow tomorrow (also on the day after Christmas.)  It will be only 1- 3 inches, but it might impact doing last minute grocery shopping. I really don’t want to do any shopping on Christmas Eve. Last year, there were no empty parking spaces so people were parking on the grass, on the side of the road, in all sorts of illegal spaces. Not for me! Don will probably take a quick run to the store later this morning.

We really don’t exchange gifts anymore, though we did consider it this year. We always say that the tree is our gift to each other, and that’s true. We really don’t need anything and by this point, it’s too late to buy presents anyway. We’ll have a lovely and quiet day, topping it off with Christmas dinner.

We’ve also been watching Christmas movies, although with some variations this year. A couple of them are what we call “Christmas-adjacent;” Die Hard, which we watched the other night, and The Holdovers, which we’ll watch the day after Christmas. So far: A Christmas Story, and White Christmas. We watched Meet Me in St. Louis  a week or so ago. Tonight will be The Shop Around the Corner, tomorrow, A Christmas Carol (the Alastair Sim version,) and on Christmas Eve, It’s a Wonderful Life. We were going to watch Miracle on 34th Street  last night, but we got waylaid by Gold Diggers of 1933  on TCM. We realized we’d never seen it before and we were quickly hooked. We’re taking a year off from The Bishop’s Wife, per Don’s request. That’s fine with me because I often fall asleep during that movie – maybe it’s Loretta Young’s very quiet voice.

I’ve started reading A Gentleman in Moscow  again. This is my fourth reading of one of my all-time favorite novels. At this point, it’s classified as comfort reading. I need that.

If you want to see a little Christmas video of the girls, visit my IG Channel, Sophieandherpals.

I hope you’re all doing well in these days leading up to Christmas. Hang in there!

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

No snow here, but it’s been cold, gray, and off-and-on rainy. Christmas Day is supposed to be rainy. I’ve been enjoying my favorite Christmas movies, too. White Christmas is always at the top of the list. I really enjoyed A Gentleman in Moscow. Stay warm.

    sweet photo.

a quiet day sounds nice after errands, chores and wind and snow …. enjoy! and good luck on the grocery run and finding a decent parking spot, don!

don’t have many holiday movies on dvd and don’t seem to catch them on tv, but did watch “Christmas with the kranks” on saturday and we will for sure watch “it’s a wonderful life” at least once. i do have the box-set of “die hard” movies, a gift from someone who knows my father and i saw all of them as they came to movie theaters over the years.

have a couple of errands to make, but they can only be done tomorrow, then will have a couple of hopefully-quiet days here. will get to spend time on Christmas eve and Christmas day with my sister and brother, sister-in-law, nieces and their families. that will be nice, but also hard. i’m trying to feel the joy of the season, and i do in moments, but it’s tough … my father passed on one year ago on december 30, and i miss him and my mother so much. :(

    … … …

    thanks for listening.

    stay safe and well.

    kathy

My dad passed away at the end of October and Christmas was only 2 months later. It’s always hard losing a loved one, especially when celebrating the holidays. Today, I find myself missing the dogs, who always loved watching us open presents. Scoutie was right there beside us.

      Stay safe, Kathy.

Sounds peaceful! My middle son, DiL, and their 3 kids are here from Texas staying in my home for the whole week! They were disappointed that there will be no snow here.
It’s much noisier than I am used to but there are fun moments, too. I’m always glad to see them but enjoy the quiet once they’ve gone home. ;)

Have fun! But I know what you mean – you’ll be happy for the peace and quiet once they’ve left for home.

      Stay safe, Ellen.

Wishing you and Don a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! My husband and I don’t need anything and just like you and your husband, we are glad we have each other! I lost my Dad in September so his house is empty and for the first time in our lives we don’t have to drive over an hour back and forth to visit any family. Life goes on and God bless him he was just a sweet, kind, gentle 93 year old who lived by himself until he passed. So as my husband and I are getting older driving home in the dark after visiting all day is exhausting. I am a homebody so my feeling aren’t hurt. I will enjoy being home celebrating with my husband! Take care!

Well…it sounds like you will have a white Christmas after all. We went to 2 grocery stores this morning…and you would think that Christmas was tomorrow by the crowds. But…now I don’t think we have to leave the house for days.

The family will be here for Christmas, minus the across the pond twosome. But they will be coming next June…they can stay longer then. I madly cleaned today…will bake cookies tomorrow, and Christmas Eve should be a ‘little things’ day, a quiet dinner with Jim, followed by It’s a Wonderful Life.

I know it’s a difficult time, but I hope you and Don and everyone, can find Peace and Joy this season. Merry Christmas! ;)

My presents are bought and wrapped. I grocery shopped today and I’ll start doing food prepping tomorrow. I’m washing bedding tonight and will make up beds tomorrow. Tomorrow night my 3 kids and 4 grandkids will be here. I can’t wait!

    Have a great holiday season!

I remember watching White Christmas several times during my teenage babysitting years.

A Gentleman in Moscow is also one of my all-time favorite novels. Thanks for the mention, it’ll be my first read in the new year.

Merry Christmas to you and Don!

I hate Christmas Eve shopping and I’m afraid we’ll be doing it this year, as we had to jump start to get ready for the kids’ visit. They depart tomorrow and we’ll have to get something to eat for the next couple of days, though who knows? It may be leftovers! (Which would not be a bad thing!)

As soon as they are out the door, though, I hope to watch a good Christmas movie that is beyond the tolerance of seven and eight-year-old boys. Definitely “White Christmas” and then I have a score of others from which to choose!

    Merriest!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
