Countdown until departure for NYC. Since Rick is also due to go into the city tomorrow, we’re taking the bus late tomorrow morning. Of course, there is snow expected tonight and overnight (I’m so sick of it!) but it’s only going to be 1 – 3 inches, so it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle unless the buses are delayed.
There’s always something. However, neither of us has to be there at a certain time, so I’m going to try to let go of my need to control things and just enjoy. Wednesday will be a day of shopping for opening night togs. Wish me luck. Don went out yesterday and found a lovely sports jacket, slacks, shoes and shirt. He’s all set. Now I have to catch up!
I’m sitting here while I write this post and one thing on my agenda when I return is to do some decluttering in this room. As is always the case in this small cottage, a lot of ‘things’ are in each room. Some of them I’m more than ready to shed, but the reality is that I’m not a minimalist and never will be. Most everything that surrounds us falls into the “loved and treasured” category. Nevertheless, there are some things in this space that need to be organized and/or let go of.
But that will be next week. This week is for New York City and Opening Night.
The spider plant has three babies. They haven’t sprouted their leaves yet, but that’s coming. I check on them every day. Speaking of which, this morning was spent watering all the plants before I depart for 5 days. It’s almost a zen-like ritual. I find it very calming.
I watched one of my favorite movies last night – Pillow Talk. It makes me happy. Rock Hudson, Doris Day, Tony Randall, Thelma Ritter – what more could you ask for? A plot involving a party line, split screens, a cad and a virginal heroine – such fun! Doris Day is undisputed master of the eye roll. No one does it better. I’ve seen it dozens of times and every time I see it’s going to be on…I’m there. Sigh of happiness.
Okay. I have errands to run, laundry to do, and a project to finish.
Happy Monday.

Claudia, anytime good for you when I can drop off Dons opening night present?
Claudia says
Tina, it may have to wait until after opening night. Too busy today and tomorrow I’m heading into the city. I’ll tell him that you have something for him and we can touch base next week, okay? Thanks so much for understanding – you’re so sweet to have something for him.
Hey, it will give him something to look forward to! xoxo

Have an amazing time celebrating Opening Night! And good luck on the shopping expedition. Hope your find something early in your quest. Is there a big dinner following the show, or a cocktail-type party? Is it at the theater or a restaurant? It is all so exciting!
Hope you knock out that to-do list today and safe travels tomorrow. Nice to have a travel buddy!!
Claudia says
Huge party and I’m sure there will be food there. I’ve been to two Broadway openings before and the parties are lavish! It’s at Chelsea Piers and I assume it’s in a restaurant or big facility of some kind. Thanks, Chris!
Dottie says
How exciting — Opening Night on Broadway! I hope you have great luck with your shopping! Enjoy every minute of Opening Night — and then tell us all about it!
Claudia says
I will. Thanks, Dottie!

We’ll just have to sit back and wait for the pictures but know you’ll have a wonderful time. Good luck with the snow! I posted a picture of my Stella on Instagram yesterday & thought it was so funny that she wanted a spider plant for her bedroom window….& she got it. Tell Jimmy B. I said “hi”!!!!
Claudia says
I will! Thanks Jan!

Wow, I know it’s been months since Don got the part & we were hearing about rehearsals & tryouts & previews etc in other cities etc. But it seems like just days & now Opening Night is upon us! Very exciting!! And Don got a whole new outfit too! So what exactly is being planned? Must be a HUGE party with virtually everyone involved with the show. Well, everyone that was along for the ride to Broadway at least. Are Opening Night parties held at the theater with caterers etc? Or anything place entirely? I guess after what you said about reviews, most opening night parties are NOT like they’re depicted in the movies – with everyone in the show waiting with bated breath for the newspapers to arrive with the first reviews. I’m sure if I was in “show biz” I wouldn’t look at reviews either. I know I’d probably let the good ones go to my head & the critical ones would just make me feel badly. Much smarter to stay totally away from them. In the end, they’re just one individual’s opinion [an individual whom usually hasn’t even done that kind of work]. Good luck with your shopping! Peace.

Opening night parties are not held at the theaters – most Broadway theaters are rather small and there’s no room for all the producers, families and friends, cast members, investors, crew, creatives, etc. I’ve been to two Bway opening nights and both of them involved lavish, catered parties in restaurants or huge banquet facilities. This one is down at Chelsea Piers and I don’t know more than that right now. But it’s a good 25 or more blocks away, so I’m sure we’ll be Uber-ing down there. Thanks, Janet!
Deb Leadbetter says
I just know you will find a fabulous dress! Enjoy opening night and your stay in NYC.
Claudia says
Thanks Deb!

Claudia, have fun shopping, and positive thoughts that you’ll find something just right. I personally hate shopping unless I’m at Columbia Sportswear or REI… my go to fancy is a pair of black pants and a black cashmere cardigan with shiny rhinestone buttons. Other than that, I’m a deer in the headlights when it comes to dressing up….
Claudia says
Me too. I used to love it, but now? Not nearly so much!

You are such a lovely woman and I thoroughly enjoy your posts. Do something for all of us stuck home with cabin fever. ENJOY every minute on Broadway! So many of us wish we were in your high heels and could escape to Margaritaville.
Claudia says
I will! Margaritaville is a nice place to escape to! Thanks, Nancy!
Laura says

I always watch pillow talk too! I love all three of the films they made together.
and Randall with the two of them = perfection! and Thelma Ritter. what can you say!
an all time favorite whatever she was in!
you’ll be a knockout opening night. why does it always seem easier for men? it just is. and they always generally look smashing! ok. enough with the exclamation points. guess I’m getting excited. :) Mere’s post was wonderful today.
Claudia says
It IS easier for men. A jacket, some pants, maybe a tie…and they’re set. Thanks, Tammy!
Suzan Stoddard says
I find it funny and comforting that we watch all the same films over and over. I was doing pillow talk during my studio purge. I also watched Big Chill and A Thousand clowns for at least the 50th time each. I don’t always sit and watch every second but I know them so well that I can see the scene even if my back is turned
Claudia says
Exactly. I’m the same way! Thanks, Suzan.
KarenL says
Enjoy Opening Night! What fun. Glad you are just getting a glace from this Nor’easter. We are forecast 8-12 inches – I’ve had enough snow too! And power outages. Praying the power stays on. Have a great time in NYC
Claudia says
Well, they go back and forth on the forecast but it seems to be 2 – 5 inches. I just hope we can get out of town! I hope it stays safe where you are, Karen. Thinking of you!
Melissa Farley says
I watched Pillow Talk last night too, one of my all-time favorites for this reason: when it came out my mother was in summer school getting her masters degree in New Mexico while my grandmother in Texas kept my older siblings. Mother wanted to see it and took 6 year old me with her. When we arrived in Texas after the summer session ended, I told my Granny all about the wonderful movie I saw. She thought it way too racy and sophisticated and scolded my Mom (who just grinned). Loved the movie ever since!
Claudia says
What a great story! Love that your grandmother thought it was too racy! It’s so mild by today’s standards! Thanks, Melissa.
Marilyn says
Have a safe trip to New York City. Hopefully the weather report is accurate. Only 1 inch here is predicted. Good luck with the shopping. Have a good in the city.

I hope it’s light enough that the buses are running on time, Marilyn! Thanks!
