Crazy for Color

March 6, 2013 at 9:58 am by Claudia

nest

I’ve got Spring Fever. I could hear birds singing away yesterday and it gave me hope.

The giant sheet of ice that covered a good portion of the parking area outside the door has finally melted.

cone

The ice was so thick and dangerous that I resorted to putting this attractive cone out so that delivery trucks wouldn’t park there. I had to park over there by the shed. Those little bits of ice you can see in the photo? I chopped up the last bit of ice with my boot yesterday.

Don backed into the cone recently and it ended up on its side. I let Scout out and noticed that she was staring at it for the longest time. Then she started barking at it. I have no idea what the heck she thought it was, but I had to go outside and restore the cone to its original position before she would stop barking.

She doesn’t like any changes on her turf.

Do you think it’s time to put the cone back in the shed? Or should I use it as the focal point for a spring garden?

Just kidding.

Unfortunately, we are due for some snow today and tomorrow. I don’t think it will amount to much – just snow, then rain, then snow, then rain. Those to the south of us are going to be hit harder. I’m not too upset because it’s going to hit 50° on the weekend, which is positively balmy for us.

threads

I need color. After months of a grayish brown landscape, I’m longing for some color outside my windows. Inside? I’ve got plenty of it, because you know I love color.

yelloworchidgarland

I’ve been crocheting flowers like crazy and the colors make me happy. (I’ll list the new garlands for the Etsy shop tomorrow.) Yellow, Purple, Red, Blue, Tangerine, Pink….oh my. I think we can all use some color right about now, whether it’s in the garden or in a springtime banner.

What about you? Are you longing for color? Or are you one of those lucky ones who lives in a warmer climate?

Happy Wednesday.

We had snow here last night. Everyone around here was hoping for a snow day. Not me, I m living for sun, flowers and warmth. I am retiring this year and believe me it is time.

Very windy here this morning. I’ve become quite a wimp when the wind blows. Being without power because of downed wires for five days must have traumatized me more than I realized. I’m glad this latest storm is staying to the south of us. I put away the outdoor winter decorations yesterday. Cut some forsythia branches and bought a few pussy willow stems. Have branches in small vases on kitchen windowsill on either side of a small wood sign that says “think spring.” Although there is still snow on the ground outside that kitchen window, I intend to look everywhere I can for more signs of spring!

Well, you know I am sick of sticks and white in my outdoor decor…I do think you should use that cone, somehow…maybe mark a squirrel crossing! …or a bunny run!! I need color too…I’ll take it in any shape and form. Enjoy your day! ;)

Oh oh OHHHHH!!! I love your flowers and they would look so lovely if I crocheted some in red and hung garlands on my Sweetheart window curtains! Thank you for the inspiration!

The ice has been the worst to deal with. It’s treacherous here and my friend shattered her ankle on it, so I’m walking very gingerly. I truly hope it gets warm enough to thaw it this weekend!

Claudia, LOVE LOVE LOVE the Flowers / Garland! If you could see me right now sitting at my computer, at work in a bright lime green shirt embroidered in yellow, pink, blue, lavender, flowers with Forrest Green, slacks, and a bright Green Purse!! You wouldn’t even have to ask. Love your blog. -Judy A-

I agree! I can’t wait for the roses, gardenias and peonies to bloom. They are so magical to me.

Great-granddaughters are visiting so you can image the state of the house. Toy, baby items all over the place. Love having them and they are so much fun.

    xoxo,
    Connie

Isn’t that funny about dogs hating when things are different? Mine do the same thing. Something can be there for the longest time. But if it’s tipped over or askew, they bark at it relentlessly. Longing for color here too.

I love your colorful crocheted flowers! Such happy creations–especially with the drab landscape outside, I remember that well. Here in Miami it’s sunny but it has been very cool at night for a week, which is actually very refreshing. Growing up in Canada I remember the long days of winter very well, and the hope of spring with the lengthening days and warmer sunlight. I hope your world gains a bit of color very soon!

I had to chuckle when I looked at the picture of the shed and the cone. My first impression was ‘oh, look! A giant snowman melted and all that’s left is his nose!’

We have been having some sunshine so that is good, but it’s cold and I’ve got a headcold that has kept me down for days now! UGH! I just hope my poor Mom does not get sick. I love the garlands and all those colors make me smile!

Dogs are so funny when anything in their environment changes. :-) I’m with you on the brown landscape, although ours is totally white – and plenty of it. I’m so ready for spring to arrive. I even purchased a shamrock green casserole dish the other day from the thrift store just because it was such a springy,(??) cheery color!

I think we could all use a little spring right now. We had the snow and ice last night. I don’t think we got as much as they thought we would. It is melting quickly. As it fell from the trees the dogs felt they had to bark when it hit the roof. It is supposed to be in the 50s here as well later this week. Heat wave.
Ice is scary……..I don’t like to fall on….the outcome is never good.

I am very fortunate to be living in SoCal. Things are blooming and although the sky is grey today, overall the sun shines a lot here. Hope those warmer temps bring you the color you want and need. Ann

Funny Scout was concerned about the tipped cone. Good watchdog! Liking your colorful garlands. Have your ever thought to make seasonal ones? Pastels for Easter; red and green for you know what; red, white and blue for summer; fall colors… Lots of possibilities. And just for the record, we got about 8 inches of snow yesterday. Pics on my blog. Ugh!

Spring can’t come soon enough, Claudia, but sadly we need to get through this latest blast of snow that’s headed our way. (They are calling it the Winter Beast which is nerve-jangling to say the least. Jeesh!) I’m hoping, like you, tha it will be warn enough for the rain to melt the snow as fast as it falls. We’ll see. Those purple and yellow circlets remind me of pansies!! So cheerful. I love that pattern.

Love your multi colored garland! So glad you didn’t get hit by too much snow again. At least you can see the ground. That’s
funny that Scout didn’t want that “thing” in his yard.

Phoebe Dog also barks when things are out of place…like a wheelbarrow… or if someone dares to park at pour house. Today was a super barking day because there were quite a few squirrels about. She is normally a quiet girl, but when rabbits and squirrels arrive, she can’t contain herself.

Color…yes, yes, yes! I am so sick of gray skies, piles of white and gray snow, and bare tree branches. Dug out some of my spring decor stuff today and will be playing with it tomorrow. Trying to lighten and brighten up for spring – no matter that there’s still about a foot of snow on the ground.

I don’t miss color in the house for as you know dear, I’m a white, grey, cream, very pale blue, natural greige linen type of gal, but I do love colorful flowers in the garden. My daffodils are quite good this year and are definitely cheering up the landscape a bit.

Painter completed the bathroom makeover today – ceiling, walls, trim, and I love it – and will love it even more once I get it cleaned up and all the odds and ends installed.

    Hugs – Mary

    Hi Claudia!
yes, longing for color. Mainly I’m longing to see my veggies taking off. I live in Texas you know, and it has been one for the books in my opinion.
Monday was in the 80’s and the rest of the week in the 50’s and low 60’s… and windy like crazy!
    Dogs are funny.
    take care and stay warm!

So glad it’s sposed to be warm this weekend and that the time changes too. I keep telling myself it won’t be much longer til the wonderful colors of Spring are here!

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.
