Crooked Blinds & a Little Trip

September 5, 2010 at 8:12 am by Claudia

:: Do you ever have mornings like this? I come downstairs every morning, greet the doggies, let them out, start the coffee. I open the blinds in the den and the living room. Then I tackle the roman blinds in the kitchen. I try my darndest to get them straight and I finish – absolutely sure that they look perfect. And then I see this.

Drat.

:: The other day, husband and I took a little drive to a town on the Hudson River. We used to visit this charming town a lot when we lived further south, but rarely get there nowadays.

The view as we parked our car.

I love this stone archway with a pot at the top of the arch which is right on Main Street. And this little bench is next to it.

Husband remarked that people’s backsides were a lot smaller when this was built. Sad but true.

On the way back to the car, we always pass this abandoned gas station.

The pump is a perfect Jadeite green, isn’t it? And the brand name of the gas? Flying A Gasoline. I wonder if I could spirit this away in the dead of night… I want it.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday weekend. We awoke to cool, crisp air this morning. I think I detect a bit of autumn in the air!

I’m with you. I love the gas pump. It’s too bad that they are letting it rot away. The stone work is wonderful too.You are giving me more ideas for miniature work. Stop that, Claudia! I have enough on the drawing board already!LOL

    Good morning, Claudia ~

I still have roll-up window treatments (they were supposed to be a temporary solution) and cannot make up my mind what I want. Well, that’s not quite true. Anything from Cabbages & Roses would be perfect. :)

Lovely area to spend time with your hubby. Glad your temps are finally cooling down. We had low 30s the other morning and the afternoon temps are in the 60s.
A couple more weeks, and the leaves will be changing!

Have a lovely Sunday, dear friend!

We have French doors, with similar blinds. I so understand the battle!

Oooh, love that gas pump. I bet you could approach the owner and make an offer. How cool would that be out in the driveway or next to the garage…or down at the bottom of the driveway!! With flowers on either side. Oh, heck.. it would be a great center piece in a garden! … FLYING A.. that’s cool.

I LOVE that gas pump. I have a thing for old gas stations. One of my favorite antique stores is in an old vintage gas station up in Jamestown, CA. So cute!

I want for you to have the gas pump too. The color is so pretty and the name is darling. There is a 1950’s sign in our area with grass all over it that I want badly. Thanks for your sweet comment. hugs♥olive

It has had a tiny nip in the air here too. I don’t have blinds like that anymore. Just bought cheap matchstick blinds. The slightest shift would cause them (those like yours) to become uneven and it drove me round the bend. To the trash they went. Love the old gas station. Seems sad just sitting there. At least it hasn’t been mowed to the ground for a fast food restaurant.

Sounds like a fun day out – and yes, I bet you can feel Fall in the air in your neck of the woods! Still 90 here but a found a golden brown leaf on my front steps this morning – a good sign that it’s starting to cool at night!

Painting the cottage starting tomorrow – then opening a little business – come read about the happenings that are keeping me very busy!

Happy Labor Day dear Claudia – hope you get to relax and enjoy.

I’ve spent far too much of my life trying to get the shades even in our Florida room. They have a mind of their own! That’s a really cool gas pump – enjoyed the picture.

That stone arbor and bench reminds me of a house that my husband and I drive by sometimes. It’s across the street from a great big lake nearby, and I think it was an old timey gas station a very long time ago, as out front it has the canopy that people used to park under while they pumped gas. Everything is covered in old stones like that. I love it, and imagine that in it’s hey day, it probably sat next to an old road, with lots of evergreens all around it. Perfect color on that old gas pump. I really like it a lot.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
