Saturday was rainy, a sort of dismal day. So we stayed in and I worked on the dollhouse. Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been trying – and failing – to add a circular shower curtain rod to the bathroom, resulting in lots of frustration and cursing. I found some florist wire at Michael’s the other day that was thicker than what I had been previously using in my futile attempts.
I managed to pull it off yesterday. It’s not perfect. But it will do for now.
I also made a shower curtain out of linen. It’s a little heavy, so I might change it out in the future. But for now, I’m rather pleased with my sincere, if amateurish, stab at getting it done.
This is a darkish photo and I’ll try to get something better later on today. These narrow rooms are always hard to capture – the light needs to be just right.
I actually tried to make little shower curtain rings out of some wire I had in my ‘making jewelry’ stash. They were pretty gosh darned cute, but in the end, I scrapped them and, instead, sewed the curtain to the rod.
Whenever I manage to pull something like this off, I shout out to Don and make him drop whatever he’s doing to come see it. He is always appropriately impressed and gives me lots of “I’m proud of you” pats on the back. Thank you, Don, for being almost as excited about this little hobby of mine as I am.
Also found in Michael’s the other day:
This map of the British Isles. Caroline is an Anglophile (as am I) and she displays this lovely vintage map above her work space.
Today, we are going to give Scout a bath in the tub. One of us will have to hold her very securely while the other bathes her. We don’t want her to feel she has to do all the work of supporting herself. She’d get very tired, very quickly. So we’ll do it for her. The old girl needs a bath desperately and today is the day. Wish us all luck!
Tomorrow is the day we’ll get our Christmas tree. It’s been moved up in our schedule because we’re due for some sort of snow event on Tuesday. The jury is still out on how much snow we’ll be hit with. Don, get ready to fire up the snowblower!
Happy Sunday.

The curtain is adorable. We need to give our dog a bath too, after being sprayed by the skunk we had to wash her with peroxide and it is making her shed horribly right now. It’s a big task for sure bathing a dog.
Claudia says
We just finished. The hard part is holding her so we keep the weight off her legs, since her arthritis is so bad. But we did it! Success.

Just when I think I have found my favorite room in your dollhouse, along comes another! Your attention to detail is amazing. I love the new shower curtain rod you made.
On an entirely different subject, I have to share with you what a laugh a photo from your archives brought to our family Friday night. We were looking at the creche photo and there stood The King–Elvis–himself! Our resident 7 yr old exclaimed, now that is funny :-) I continued to giggle even after turning in for bed. Do you by any chance watch Saturday Night Live? Last night, the segment a Hip Hop Nativity, caused me to giggle too. Sorry for the derail….
Claudia says
I seem to remember that photo – maybe from a linky party? It was very funny!
Linda @ A La Carte says
Love the shower curtain! Good for you! I see in a comment you made that Scout got her bath. I bet she feels better! Wishing you a wonderful Sunday. The sun is shining today after several rainy foggy days and it’ s making me feel pretty perky!
hugs,
Linda
Claudia says
Yes, it’s shining here, too! Thank goodness! Have a great day, Linda.

I see you’ve successfully bathed Scout already. I was going to suggest a towel- when Trouble was still here she was getting quite old and lame in the legs as far as standing she did fine but getting her in and out of the tub was a chore on us both– so I put a towel around her and would hoist her up and over the side. It worked well.
Buster needs a bath too and today will be sunny and warm enough I might just do it!
That shower ring/ rod it a good job! And the curtain too! I’m curious how the ring in fastened?
Glad you were able to find the right gauge of wire. That Map is a nice addition to the wall as well.
Happy Sunday!
Claudia says
It’s big enough that it just fits in there and I used wax for minis to attach it to the wall. It seems to be staying in place – fingers crossed!

The shower curtain really adds to the overall look of the bathroom – good job!
Have fun choosing your Christmas tree. Before we moved into our condo, we used to drive to the local Christmas tree farm and cut our own tree – the selection process always involved much friendly dispute.
I put up our tree yesterday after playing with my paints, We have a big painting of a lovely Georgian house in Ireland with a red front door in our foyer and I suddenly decided that the tree pot should be the same red. We used the Waterford ornaments that used to be my mother’s, so it all sort of came together as a happy reminder of places and people past.
My daughter says we do not have an “artificial tree” – it is a “faux fir”.
Claudia says
And she’s right. It sounds much more chic that way!
Barbara W. says
It’s nice when she occasionally lapses into a silly moment – she is a such a serious-minded young lady.
I’m very taken with your curtain and have been looking at it again. How did you keep the shape of the pleats? Did you use spray starch?
Claudia says
I made them according to a blogger’s directions – Mercedes at Liberty Biberty. Here’s the link to her tutorial: http://libertybiberty.blogspot.com/2009/09/how-i-drape-fabric-and-make-mini.html
I cut the fabric, used fabric glue to hem it, then I pin the fabric/pleats to something like, in my case, a quilter’s pad for ironing. I heavily pin the sides of each pleat. Then I spray it with hairspray. Then I blow it dry with my hair dryer.
Mercedes also will run a thread through the top of the fabric and the bottom and pull it and use that to start in on forming the pleats. I didn’t do that this time and I probably should have. I ended up running thread through the top of the curtain to secure the pleats. xoxo

The shower rod and curtain are perfect. Nicely done, Claudia. And I like how you hang wall art at Caroline’s eye level.
Please post photographs of Scout, in all her fluffy glory, soon! I’m sure she loved all the attention, if not the bath itself.
Claudia says
Didn’t like the bath, and let us know that little fact. But she was pretty stoic and I’m proud of her. I know she feels better being clean – you can tell by her friskiness.
Nancy in PA says
A sweet-smelling, sparkling-clean, frisky dog. Delightful!

Scoutie is just going to LOVE how she feels after her bath. Once she’s all dry and comfy again, I bet she gets a deep and very restful nap, maybe even in a warm sunny spot. Hope “the Valley” is getting the same sun Rochester is today. I’m so lucky, most of my apartment gets a southern exposure. Enjoy your day…
Claudia says
Yes, we’re getting lots of sun. Appreciating it, as we have snow on the way for Tuesday.
Nancy Blue Moon says
I’m sure Scout is soft and fuzzy now..great job on the shower rod and curtain..the little touches you make yourself are always the sweetest..and the map is so nice..I will look for one when I get to Micheal’s again..Sunny, clear skies here today also..but not warm at all..
Claudia says
They had a few minis there – some not so great, but some were surprisingly charming, like the maps and a garden hose I bought. You never know what you’ll find out there!

We had company this afternoon, and after everyone left, I sat down to read some blogs…. I am pretty tired, and as I was reading about the shower curtain ~ and you said you used glue ~ I was wondering how it would all stay together after the steam from the shower….. THAT is how real it all looks to me! I lol at that…. too funny.
I saw on the news this morning about the snow heading up there on Tues & Wed and wondered if you were in the path. We have snow and ice (yuk) for late tonight into the morning. Glad we have no where we need to go in the morning.
Claudia says
Yes, we are definitely in the path. Now they’re calling it a 3 day ‘event.’ Snow, ice, sleet, rain…you name it. Yuck, yuck, yuck.
Missy says
The shower curtain is adorable..Good job..Hope Scouts bath went OK…We’re to get something on Tues as well..I think a “wintery mix”..We’ll see..
Trudy Mintun says
I loved the bathroom before the curtain rod, but now I really truly do. I am so glad to have this tutorial. It will really help me with the details.
I read that Scout didn’t share your opinion that she needed a bath. I am relieved it all worked out. I bet she is sweet smelling and soft feeling right now.
Be safe in the snow Claudia. I hate to say this, but enjoy your new snow blower.
Carol Ann says
Your bathroom is beautiful and I too like your theme colors and curtains and shutters. Poor doggy. After her bath. Beautiful color of fur.
