Daffodils and Pollen

May 2, 2025 at 8:33 am by Claudia

The daffodils that popped up by the porch a few years ago bloomed for the first time this spring. We have more of the same in the woods and at the top of the big garden bed. I love it when daffodils spread.

Friends,  I’m not feeling well today. I’ve been working outside every day, even on days I had planned on taking off. When I came in the house yesterday, I told Don I had to take today off and to hold me to it. I needed to rest my back. But when I woke up this morning I felt absolutely miserable, grit under my eyelids, lots of congestion. It’s allergies, of course. There’s pollen everywhere and it’s been rather breezy every day.

The result: Mother Nature has told me to stay inside today. (Except for watering the pots, of course.)

We also have 4 or 5 days of rain coming up, starting tomorrow. Nothing I have to do at this point is urgent, so it can wait until the middle of next week.

So, if you don’t mind, I’m going to stop here today.

I’m tired!

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

You deserve a rest today. Lots of hard work and tough conditions with the pollen. I’m dealing with it, too. I can never tell when it’s pollen, sinus infection or just stuffiness! We’re in the rainy period, too. Yesterday it was pretty intense; too early to tell how much will come down today but it’s a grand day to stay in!

allergies sound miserable. sorry you have to deal with them. do you take any o-t-c medicine for them or have anything else that brings relief? i hope you can stay inside and rest, enjoy another good movie or two, take a nap. also hope the rain washes away as much pollen as possible for you and especially that you feel better soon.

i’ve recently enjoyed a bit of rain (not enough) and a couple days of beautiful dark overcast skies, but hope it will be dry tomorrow. heading to nebraska for the funeral of my oldest cousin and i don’t want any of my family (especially doug’s wife and children) to have to be in the rain on a day that is already so very hard.

fed earl and the birds, took a walk with my sister. now it’s time for sorting through papers and washing clothes. grateful.

hope you, don and everyone else have ease and peace, and fun things on your to-do lists.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your cousin, Kathy. Safe travels to Nebraska.

I take OTC medicine, but it doesn’t help all that much.

      Stay safe.

Sounds like a great day for you to rest….you’ve earned it. We have hostas to dig up…they are going to my son tomorrow. Everything seemed to sprout almost overnight around here. Hope they are not too big.

    Enjoy your day of rest!

Rest up Claudia. Those allergies are so uncomfortable. I always feel awful when the pollen is at its highest. Lovely photos! Hugs to you my sweet friend.

Claudia, hope the rain washes the pollen and dust down so you have time to recover. Allergies and back pain aren’t fun. Do some fun inside projects, admire all your garden growth thru the windows, or take a nap (I haven’t had a nap since my bathroom renovation started so I’m eager to take one soon).

I’m finally at the last stages of the cold I caught while on vacation. Mild instead of severe congestion, and no more coughing or sore throat. I took OTC medication and it cleared my sinuses and quieted my cough enough so I could fall asleep. Frankly, I’m surprised, but grateful, that I don’t have a lingering cough.

After never having pollen allergies I suddenly developed them in my late 60s, especially to oak tree pollen. I use a saline nose spray, drink a ton of water and herb teas and wash my eyes out frequently with lubricant eye drops, Never sure if all this helps or just gives me things to do.

I hope we get some of the rain you are expecting, its pretty bad down here in VA.

dear Claudia/Don — sorry to hear you all are feeling lousy – spring allergies here are always bad but this years much worse, mine began back in Feb, hopefully the worse is over. A funny story — we have always had mockingbirds in our front yard BUT in 50 years they had never been in our backyard BUT two days this week, they are in the back — nothing is different so it is a complete mystery to me. I told you this b/c of your blog’s name. feel better soon. stay safe/healthy

I used to hear a mockingbird in the tree across the street from us when we lived in San Diego. He sang so beautifully every night.

      Stay safe, Linda.

Sorry you have such bad allergies. My Mike is like you and mows our large yard, all the while sniffling and snorting.
We were back to calgary again yesterday. I met with surgeon and another doctor. They think that surgery at this point might nake matters worse. That’s fine with me, I’ll just carry on. Take care and be safe.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
