Well, Easter was a gray and rainy day here in the Hudson Valley. Ah well. We need the rain. Today is colder and we will be dealing with cold temperatures for the next 3 days or so. Then we’ll swing back to the 60s and 70s.
And that’s your weather update from MHC.

But we have a few daffodils – not as many blooms as last year, but these pops of bright yellow make me smile. The forsythia is blooming as well. I saw the flashes of yellow from the bedroom window.
I spent a lot of the time on Easter working on the dollhouse. I decided to start wallpapering the living room. I have to say, bending over and trying to maneuver wallpapering a miniature room is harder than it used to be. My back and neck complain. And as usual with the kind of dollhouse work that I do, it’s trickier because it’s already been built and the surfaces are uneven in a way they might not have been had I built it. This particular wallpaper is thicker than usual, which made dealing with bay windows and lots of angles a challenge. I still have two sections of room to finish, but here is what I have so far.

I staged it with a potted plant that I stole from Dove Cottage because there is paint on that window from its time with the previous owner and I can’t figure out how to remove the window and replace the acetate. It won’t budge. So it might always have to have a vase, or a plant, or a small sculpture in front of it. I have a kit table that I’m going to eventually place behind the sofa. I have to assemble it first.

The fireplace came with the house kit. I have two of them. I like it a lot. I might use it or I might replace it with another. But it gives you an idea of the space. It’s not the best wallpaper job ever, but considering the fact that this room is very, very deep which makes it a pain in the tush to do anything in the back of a room, I’m okay with it.
The floor will be made of wood: the usual coffee stirrer sticks, individually stained, while I deal with glue all over my fingers.
I like the white floor, but I don’t want the room to feel too precious, so wood it will be. I have a round table that will tuck into the bay window and 2 vintage Bespaq chairs. Presumably this is where the owners dine and or do jigsaw puzzles.
I’m still on a search for more wallpaper. I have one pattern here that might work in the bedroom. And I have another in mind for the hallways.
I moved the dollhouse back to the long work table because I need the light coming from the windows and it’s an inch or two higher than the sewing table.
Anyway, mark Sunday on your calendar. Claudia finally did some interior work in the dollhouse!
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.

Yay! Great job with the wall paper! I Love the delicacy of the pattern you chose! It “soothes” the walls without dominating the feeling of the room. And bravo for all the “contortions” you managed in order to achieve this result! I know it is much harder than it looks… the impossibility of seeing what you are doing back there when your own hands are in the way and you can’t get your head close enough to see! As I said… BRAVO! As for the stain on the window… I find “cafe” curtains a useful trick in some instances. They tend to take the focus off the window (and its view) without reducing too much light in the room. But truly, I LOVE the feeling this pattern gives to the room…. and the gentle tone it imparts to the rest of the house too! As always, I look forward to seeing more! Oh, and happy Spring too!
Thank you so much for your kind words, Betsy. I’m really happy with this choice of wallpaper.

Good morning Claudia! The daffodil is so pretty. I used to have grape hyacinths and miss them welcoming spring. I think the wallpaper looks quite good. That is a beautiful pattern. And the white floor is lovely with it. Doesn’t it feel good to get a little something done on a big project?! I did the same this weekend and now, needing a serious break, will be rewarding myself with a long bike ride today. Have a lovely day!
But remember, the white floor is going to be covered in hardwood.
It does feel good, Verna.
Thank you!

I love the wallpaper and it looks like a good job to me!! How you work in those tiny spaces is always a mystery to me. Happy to see you back working on them.
It’s increasingly hard to do, Linda!
Thanks so much.

You’re off to a great start, Claudia. I enjoyed the process with your other houses and certainly look forward to reading about Beacon Hill and seeing the photos.
Thank you so much, Wendy.

I love the wallpaper and the couch! The bay windows are very pretty too. I would like to move in! :)
Thank you Betsy.

I’m loving that wallpaper. It goes so well with that couch, and fits the cottage. Anxious to see the wooden floor with that…it’s going to be gorgeous I predict. All your effort was worth it.
Sunny yesterday…colder and sunny today. Wish Spring would make up its mind. You are considerably ahead of us if your daffodils are blooming. Enjoy your evening! ;)
Very cold here today – windy, as well. Nighttime temps go down to the 20s tonight and tomorrow and then we should see more springlike temps.
Thanks, Donnamae!

Well, I’m impressed! It looks terrific — I love the wallpaper pattern and it’s so nice with the sofa. And the fireplace is wonderful. I can see why you like it. It really “fits.” The floor sounds complicated and this looks like very challenging work, so hats off to you!
A rainy day is a great day for dollhousing! I can’t wait to see the next additions!
It’s not so much complicated but it IS tedious.
Thanks, Jeanie.

Its lovely !! Love that choice of wallpaper with the sofa. Can’t wait to see it all done with the ‘wood’ floor.
Oh, it’s real wood, Dawn!
Thanks.

I make a template out of tracing paper, which I press against the wall or floor, and then trace the corners with a pencil or something similar. Then I cut out the wallpaper, the floor, or whatever it is, outside. Your wallpaper is very cheerful and the colors go perfectly with the sofa. I’m so glad you’re working on Beacon Hill again.

I do the same thing. I did that with my very first house, as well.
Thanks so much, Helga.

Hi Claudia. I love the wallpaper! I know it’s difficult but it must feel good when it is done. I love the bay windows. We use to have them in our previous house and I miss them. Our Easter was quiet. Too many family members recovering from surgeries and now I have a bad case of the flu. I have a lot of projects going around in my head. They are doing some painting and wallpapering in our house. Big projects which I have to sell Bill on! Take care!
Take care of yourself Deb!
Thanks so much.
