The Day after Christmas

December 26, 2010 at 3:17 pm by Claudia

Happy Boxing Day! I hope you all had a wondrous holiday. We made a special dinner on Christmas Eve and watched The Christmas Story. Love that movie. Christmas Day was lovely; we exchanged gifts in the morning after eating some of my Annual Christmas Coffee Cake. I only make it once a year. It is the best coffee cake I’ve ever had and I guard the recipe with my life. Later on in the afternoon we went over to Heidi’s for dinner. We always have a fun time with them and yesterday was no exception. Now that I’ve given Heidi and her daughters their presents, I’ll show you Obsession Scarves #3, 4 and 5.

I think they were a hit. They sure are a lot of fun to make. Heidi gave me the largest vintage pin cushion I’ve ever seen. I took a photo of it next to one Betty made. And Betty’s isn’t small.

The red fabric is sateen-like and the felt leaves are beautifully faded.

Among my presents from Don are 2 books on photography that I wanted. I’ll share more about them in another post. I have grown to love photography so much and I want to learn more about aperture and f-stops and ISO and all of those things that can be very intimidating. Hopefully, I will be more skilled by the time I save up for a new camera. By the way, I keep getting emails like this from B&H:

See the bottom row? The one I want is on the right. I tell you, B&H has somehow read my thoughts. They are taunting me once again.

I ran out to the store this morning to stock up on provisions. We are just about to be pounded with a major snow storm. In fact, as I write this, the snow has begun. It’s blowing sideways. The amount predicted keeps changing, but we are in for at least a foot or more. We’re hunkering down. Tomorrow looks to be a day of shoveling. And more shoveling. Wish us luck!

Claudia, Merry Christmas to you, Don, Scout and Riley!! Your scarves are just beautiful! Heidi should sell them in her shop! Or you should sell them in the Etsy shop you said you might open!

We are getting the same blizzard conditions you wrote about. I am ready for spring… sooooo ready!

I dropped my camera and it no longer works – at all :( After the blizzard is done, I’ll be out looking for an inexpensive auto focus point & shoot, but I’m so excited for your new found hobby of photography! I hope you get your dream Canon very soon :)

Love your beautiful scarves. CC and I may never learn to crochet but that is okay. I am yearning for the same camera but also must wait a long while. It is snowing here in the Deep South and sticking!

    Claudia,

The scarves are wonderful. I think I told you I started one – had to rip out as I made a wrong turn. I will start it again.

I am glad you had a wonderful holiday just the two of you and then with friends.

I got the Canon Rebel just before we came back to Florida and a couple of books. I want to learn more but just have not had the time to study. One of my New Year’s resolutions is to read the manual and maybe find a dvd that I can watch about the camera.

Hope you and Don and the dogs have a Happy New Year!

Hi Claudia! It ws so nice to sit and read about your lovely Christmas Day – it sounds like it was perfect! Those scarves are so unique – have you thought of opening an Etsy store and selling them? This way you could save up for that fantastic looking camera! I continue to admire your dedication to your blog – I’m so distracted these days with the kids home and things all over the place. I need my ducks in a row to sit down and organize a blog. Hope that happens soon! Ciao, bella!

    Claudia,
Okay, I’m obsessed with the scarfs now! I would love to have recieved one, I’ll bet they were a big hit. Sounds like you had a lovely time. It was a zoo here, but the best ever! The kids were the perfect age this year, & Santa was good to them. We watched the same movie, plus some. The Sound of Music (my fave of all time) & Love Actually. Ate too much, I’ll be dieting for the next 3 months. I’m gonna go check out your previous post now, I got behind over the holidays. Have a safe new year! We’ll be watching the ball drop in the comfort of our living room. Lisa

Happy Holidays! Your scarves and snowflake banner have inspired me to learn to crochet in the new year and I have a friend who is willing to teach me. I would *love* to be able to give beautiful, handmade scarves as gifts. Hope you’re warm & cozy today — maybe curled up with your new books. :-)

I’m finally catching up a bit…these scarves you’ve made are just beautiful..I’d say you could prosper from them to put towards that camera!..haha…that is if yo can let go of them! Very unique, indeed and I adore hand painted yarns. Are they wool?

I broke down earlier this year and bought the Nikon D90 with 2 lenses. I need a book in a desperate way. The book that came with it is pretty good but I need the Nikon for Dummies book. My camera is a professional but I’m not. LOL But the auto focus lets me be a novice and produce dynamite photos…but I know how much better they could be if I knew all about it.

I know you have to save for your camera but meanwhile you could keep an eye on the QVC and Home Shopping networks for cameras. They normally offer them in those easy 3-4 monthly payments.

    I LOVE those pin cushions!

    Hugs,
    Stephanie ♥

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
