Day Eighty-Seven

June 8, 2020 at 9:29 am by Claudia

I was sure it was Sunday when I first woke up. It wasn’t until I was downstairs that I had a suspicion in might not be. One day flows into another flows into another. I know many of you are experiencing the same thing.

We did a lot of mowing yesterday and I watered the pots and the seedlings. Don did some work up in the woods. I started my new puzzle, which is one of the puzzles Terri sent me; a cover from The New Yorker  called The Bookshop. It’s an interesting puzzle – the illustration is not as defined as the Mucha, for example – more impressionistic. Unlike the other puzzles, the shape of the individual pieces is much more varied. I’ll try to take a picture of some of them today to show you what I mean. So, it’s a challenge and you know I like that! I also have two more on the way from Galaxy Puzzles.

New York is automatically sending out absentee ballot request forms. Our county sent us one last week and we’re putting them into the mail today. Our primary is June 23rd. I am grateful that I don’t have to stand in line at a polling station right now. Obviously, this is the first time absentee ballot requests have been sent to everyone in the state. I wonder if it will also occur in November?

Brought back to the house after someone’s walk this morning. Daisies! Aren’t they lovely? Cut to Kathleen in You’ve Got Mail: “They’re so friendly. Don’t you think daisies are the friendliest flower?”

He picked them along the roadside. Aw……

Today, I’m taking it easy. Alas, every time I do major work outside at this time of year, my allergies kick in and I feel crappy. So my new rule is: A day working outside, a day staying inside. I have to give myself time to recover. Today is a day to stay inside (except for watering and a bit of time on the glider.)

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

Oh, I have always loved daisies! Tonight PBS American Masters is about Terrance McNally. Don’t know if it’s new, but thought you should know—in case you didn’t already.

Good luck with the new puzzle.

Hi Claudia, The New Yorker puzzle is the same one that I completed a few weeks ago! I know what you mean, it’s more dabs of colour and the painting gains definition when you stand away from it but I did feel a sense of achievement once I had completed it.

I did a lovely jigsaw over the weekend, it was books and their covers from the Golden Age of Children’s Illustration from about 1900-1930 with delights such as Peter Pan and Tales of Arabian Nights.

    Happy Monday

You Got Mail is one of my favorite movies. I have two puzzles coming in from Springbok??? One of the puzzles has cars–57Chevy, 66MustangG7, 66Camaro and Plymouth Cuda 340. Speaking of movies “Ferrari vs Ford” has become my husband’s favorite. We saw it when it came out on DVD about 3-4 months ago. He is still talking about it. Which is unusual for him. Doing laundry and washing fabric to make a quilt for my daughter’s upcoming birthday. She wants a blue and yellow quilt.

I think one of mine is a Van Gogh and the other is a painting of a vase of flowers. Enjoy, Trina. Stay safe!

Yes, daisies are the friendliest of flowers and they are perfect in your charming kitchen with Stella peeking out from her place of honor.

Stella is always the star of the show but the daisies are a close second! Stay safe, Annette.

Didn’t end up so relaxing as we found out the cost of fixing our car (the one Don drives) and then had to go get it. Sigh.

      Stay safe, Brenda.

Daisies were our wedding flowers!! I still absolutely love them! So pretty.

Good idea to stay inside after a busy outdoor day when allergies are involved. We are inside, too. It is supposed to be 92* today. Heavy rain tomorrow but 70’s by the end of the week again. The lawn, the flowers and the veggies are all doing so well right now. (knocking on wood!!)

Hope you have a peaceful day and fun puzzling!

I agree…daisies are the friendliest flower. How sweet of Don. It is quite hot here today.,,the remnants of Cristobal are to arrive tomorrow and Wednesday, and then it will cool off.

I like your day on of work, and day off to recover schedule. I don’t have allergies, but my muscles sure would appreciate it.. I wonder if that would help me remember what day of the week it was as a bonus? Stay safe! ;)

missed it at first glance, went back to see if i could figure out what kind of flowers are in the first photo … and then i saw the bee. :) great photo!

second photo is lovely, too … especially showing something sweet from your someone sweet. daisies are my favorite flower and (except for one little quibble), i love “you’ve got mail”.

your idea to work outside only every other day sounds good … especially in the heat. hope it helps so your allergies don’t trouble you.

good for your state to send out absentee ballots. i haven’t heard anything about that automatically happening here, but i will for sure be requesting an absentee ballot.

long day at work. grateful for a job, but glad and grateful to be home.

i have a bit of big news i can share … last saturday police arrested the person believed to have shot and killed my friend’s son. i pray that arrest brings her some comfort.

and i pray that you all stay safe and well, have what you need and find joy every day.

I’m happy to hear that there has been an arrest, Kathy. It doesn’t ease your friend’s grief, but at least she knows justice is being served. Stay safe, Kathy!

Oh, those wild daisies; they’re indeed happy little flowers!

Feel better with those allergies; my husband is suffering similarly due to his work on our hillside, weeding the main veggie garden at the top. There’s a lot of growth-run-amok from adjoining old properties; no idea what he’s inhaling up there. I climbed the hillside stairs yesterday to survey this upper garden (I’m gonna have rainbow chard and beets [beet greens are also great to saute in a little-bit of olive oil] very soon; also curly kale; can’t wait!***) and when I got back down to the lower yard, had to come inside and use my rescue inhaler as my asthma went into high gear. We’ve been humid but now have plunged to single-digit humidity; hot and windy and very dry today; mid-to-high 90s. Yuck. I don’t know if it’ll help or hinder the young veggie growth at this point. Just trying to keep everything well-watered.

***picked 8 zucchini last night from the lower-yard veggie garden and put some of them with a vegetarian-style Sloppy Jo(e) sort of sauce; was SO delish, and the zucchini young and tender; really makes you feel healthier – – we barely cooked the zucchini; just put it into the sauce at the end, so hopefully saved some good nutrients; just sliced it in thin ‘coins’. Yum.

Sounds like your veggies are doing well, Vicki! We’re talking seriously about adding a vegetable garden next year. We think we’ll do the research and make plans over the winter and start in next spring. Stay safe!

Good job, Don! That’s not picking flowers. That’s picking a glorious bouquet! And yes, I thought of that line as soon as I saw the blooms.

Glad you are taking it easy and will look forward to seeing your puzzle. Mine arrived in the mail yesterday. It’s only 500 but I couldn’t resist the image. I think it will go together fairly fast but you never know… just when you think…

Glad you are being gentle with yourself. (And I know what you mean about which day is which!) It always gets worse at pledge time for me, because our Sunday ritual is watching all the Brit shows on PBS and they’ve been off for pledge!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
