Today’s flowers from Don, presented to me as he came in the door from his morning walk. He is the sweetest man in the world. (Of course, I’m biased.)
A few weeks back, Don mentioned that he was concerned about a pair of Canada Geese he’d seen down by the river on his morning walk. After several days of seeing them together, suddenly there was only one. I thought that since the goose was in the same general area, he may have been guarding his mate while she was sitting on a nest. Today he, saw this:
Five little babies, protected by Mama and Papa. Isn’t this adorable? So now we know. He was protecting the nest. That should bring a smile to your face this morning.
We worked outside yesterday – a lot – Don was out there even longer than I was. We were pretty tired and achy at the end of the day, so today is a day of rest. The temperature hit 80 degrees yesterday and it was beautiful out there. Of course, 80 is too hot for this time of year and today’s temperature will only reach 60 degrees. But it’s sunny! And gorgeous. And the porch is coming together, though I have to buy more potting soil and a couple more plants. I’ll probably do that tomorrow. I’m going to wait to plant seeds until next week. Usually, around here, we can sow them the first week of May, but it’s been so cold, I’m holding off.
Don’s been clearing a part of the property that we’ve sort of ignored over the years. He likes a project and it gives him something to do. I must say, he’s doing a good job of cleaning it up. More and more tiny leaves are appearing on the trees, more and more green surrounds us.
Very grateful for green things and buds and pretty potted flowers always, but especially at this time of year. We’re still watching Cheers every night. Situation comedy doesn’t get much better than that show and we’re really enjoying it. Last night, as we started a new episode, we realized it was the one Don was in. It’s called The Last Angry Mailman – a name I’m well familiar with as it appears on residual checks – and Don has a scene with Cliff Clavin, played by John Ratzenberger, and his mother, played by the fabulous Frances Sternhagen. I’d seen it long ago, but it was fun watching it with Don. You know I saw Don on several series, Hill Street Blues, LA Law, Cheers and more, before I met him. I specifically remember him on LA Law because he had a recurring role as an attorney and one of the most memorable episodes was one he did with the late, great Ralph Bellamy. I remember watching it. Who knew I’d end up married to the guy many years later?
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.

I will try to find LA Law on You tube and see if I see Don…I just didn’t ever watch Cheers…but maybe will find him. Lovely flowers. Day 52 for me…I hope there is a world out there. I have noticed the medical buildings across the street still have empty parking lots. My county hasn’t opened yet as the other parts of the state go into stage two. There is no where I have to bed…all doc appts on hold…family will get food on Wednesday…sounds like you are having a good time outside…I do miss my home and flowers but…old age sets in…one of my new blogger friends-one with last name as I-in Ireland-is reading Louise Penny…this comes from you…I read them all…now I have many friends reading them…we are all avoiding the language…chuckle…keep writing and keep encouraging…hope you and Don get to return to work soon…
Claudia says
Thank you, Brenda. Always glad to hear people are reading Louise Penny! Stay safe!

I was searching Netflix a few days ago and just happened upon Cheers. Hmmm, Claudia and Don are watching, I thought. So, I’m about 4-5 episodes into season 1. I watched it years ago and forgot how funny it was….laugh out loud funny! Just what I needed.
What season is Don’s episode? I will be sure to watch for it.
Stay safe.
Claudia says
It’s so funny and so well written and acted. He’s in Season 6. Stay safe, Marilyn.

I love your daffodils! Such a pretty color combination. Your guy is so sweet. The geese and goslings remind me how late we are this year in going to the lake, but I think we will be going. Yay! Later, but still. Yay!
I hope to one day find one of Don’s episodes on some of my old favorite shows, like Law & Order, Cheers, and Frasier. I know that I have seen them all, but that was before I “knew” Don. So glad Spring has sprung in upstate NY.
Claudia says
So glad to hear you are going to the lake! Better late than never, Shanna. Stay safe!

We too have started watching “Cheers” on your recommendation. It is really a great comedy show. Such well-defined characters! It makes for a relaxing break from too much information. I will be looking for Don. The weather here in Florida is quite nice. We had some rain last week, which greened up the browning lawns. Caterpillars are hard at work, and butterflies are frolicking around the fire bush. We have a new resident, a toad who’s about the size of a softball. And what pretty skin he has green, black, white. Great camouflage.
Claudia says
We just want happy and well-written – it’s the perfect escape.
It sounds lovely in Florida, especially now before the hot, hot weather sets in. Stay safe, Leslie.

We had a beautiful weekend here, as well, with temps into the 70’sl. Now it is back into the 50’s for the week. Towards the end of the week we have chances of frost. ugh. At least it is sunny here today, so that does help.
I do think the guys seem to need some bigger projects to keep them moving and happy. I have a list of things I keep so that I can suggest things to mine whenever he shows signs of boredom. Last week he had the large pile of mulch to move and other things to move around to get ready to plant in a week or 2. He had 98,430 steps last week. So that kept him busy. My boredom threshold is much different than is his!! Hope you have a good Monday!
Claudia says
It turned today – windy and much colder. Sigh.
Yes, Don needs to keep busy and even though he’s a big reader, he’s finding it hard to concentrate right now. I told him that many people are suffering from the same thing. Stay safe, Chris.

The flowers are lovely sitting on your stainless work table with Stella in the background!
80? Too hot for me…but it sounds like you got a lot of work done. We planted hostas for our friend who lives out in the country…and it was very windy. Today…cool here, but sunny.
I think we watched every episode of Cheers, when it was originally on…great show. And LA Law, too! I‘ll have to search for old episodes…we really enjoyed that show as well.
You’ll have to take pictures of the area that Don is clearing after he’s done…I think we’d enjoy seeing them. My son was walking around our neighborhood and commented that everyone’s yard is looking so good. Plantings, lawns, mulch. He assumed it was because of all the time at home that everyone was experiencing. An added benefit to our confinement I guess.
Stay safe! ;)
Claudia says
Well it was too hot – but we were so happy to have warmth and sun we were fine with it. A little harder to sleep, especially since the A/C units aren’t in yet.
Stay safe, Donnamae.

flowers from don, time to garden and to rest, watching don’s episode on “cheers” with him by your side, seeing five little goslings with their parents … lots of sweetness for you. i am glad for that.
thanks to don for taking the photo of those precious geese and to you for sharing it with us … it did bring a smile to my face!
do you happen to know the name of the pretty little yellow flowers? please and thanks.
though i miss my family very much, i don’t work today and am staying home. i know i need to rest and relax … but so far today i cleaned the small entryway and kitchen and found a much better place to put some supplies (i am grateful to have them and just as happy to have them out of sight). in a couple minutes i am going to iron clothes for work. i want to get that done before it starts to rain because all i’ll want to do then is sit, knit and watch it rain. and that’s my plan. :)
hope everyone is safe, well and having an easier day.

I don’t know the name of the flowers. They’re some wildflower that grows at this time of year, but I don’t know the name.
Enjoy your day, Kathy. I know you love rain!

How fun to land on Don’s “Cheers” episode! What a treat. Such a good show — did he do other episodes of it too?
Well done on all the outdoor work. I got a good deal done this weekend too — you grab it while you can. Rick is getting me more mulch and potting soil (there’s never enough and there certainly won’t be when those seeds sprout.)
I’m really delighted you were able to socially distance in person with friends. I miss that and know soon — when the weather is continually nice enough to be outdoors — I’ll be able to do that too.
I just posted about the newest neighborhoods in my zone — some goslings and their parents and new ducklings, too. I love the geese — in the enclosed pond area. Whenever I see them come on the beach up north they are immediately shooed away — they’re pretty messy birds! I love these little babies to the max — they’re really quite adorable and so fluffy!
Claudia says
Nope, just the one.
I have to get mulch, but I get it from a different place, so I’ve been putting it off. I’ve already had to weed, as the wild grass that seeds everywhere here is taking hold. Stay safe, Jeanie.

I saw Don in Mr. Robot last night. I had forgot you mentioned his part in that series. I knew who he was right away. I looked for his name in the credits but didn’t see it. We are on season two now, will we see him again? It was a pleasant surprise and I love the series.
Claudia says
He did about 5 episodes over the course of a couple of seasons. His name was always in the credits (have to per the Union). He had a nice role on Mr. Robot. Glad you saw him, Olivia. Stay safe!
Debbie says
We saw our first peacock chicks on our walk this morning!
Claudia says
Wonderful! Stay safe, Debbie.
Kelly says
The geese! I knew it had to be as it is. Don is going to love watching them grow!
Awesome pic of your posies too, with that view of your kitchen. Is that Stella in the background?
Kelly
Claudia says
Yes, it’s Stella, the star of our house. Stay safe, Kelly!

It’s fun to hear about both your career and also Don’s.
I’ve always enjoyed Frances Sternhagen in her various roles. There was this very short-lived TV series in the early 1990s I really, really liked (where she was in the main cast) but it got canceled in the first season (happens far too often; some of the BEST shows); was called The Road Home, a gentle sort of drama with a setting in the South and I think it was shot on location (thought I was remembering Louisiana but it was North Carolina); Gwyneth Paltrow’s father produced and directed (I just briefly looked it up). It only got in a half-dozen episodes; just brutal, and I got so into it so fast, so I was disappointed. I’ve just never entirely forgotten this series! There were several good actors in it; known ones. It was all about this fictitious family’s fishing boat business (shrimpers) and how their lives revolved around home and work (and family ties) after the adult daughter left the big city and went back home to help out the family business and her aging parents. Was so scenic and interesting. Sigh.
Oh, that geese family; what a sweet photo; what a thing to see on one’s walk!
Claudia says
Frannie Sternhagen is still alive – she’s in her nineties! Don said she couldn’t have been nicer – same with John Ratzenberger. Thanks, Vicki. Stay safe!
Vicki says
I saw Don in a role as a lawyer on The Good Wife. Was fun; he was great!
Claudia says
Was that the one with Michael J. Fox? He had a good time doing that.
Kit says
The Last Angry Mailman was a Jeopardy question yesterday and I got the answer Cheers right because you mentioned it here…lol 😁 Kit
Claudia says
Yes, we saw that episode of Jeopardy and turned to each other and laughed. Stay safe, Kit.
Kit says
Thank you. 😊
