Some updates on this room and the rest of the dollhouse:
I ordered the most incredible miniature easel yesterday. It’s made by a woman who lives in Denmark. I don’t know how long it will take to get here; whether it’s made after an order is placed, or whether there is already one in stock. That’s okay. I can wait.
But I’m really excited!
I know I bought that chair thinking it would be perfect for the Beacon Hill (whenever the heck I actually start to construct it) but I can’t get over how beautiful it looks in this room. It’s as if it was made for it. So, for now, it stays.
I pulled the shelf unit out of the modern doll house. There’s one just like it in Don’s mini studio. I’m thinking I can fill it with art supplies and books and paints.
I don’t know if Queen Victoria is going to stay in that room, but again – for now – she looks cool in that space.
Lots of canvases, lots of art work on the walls…I have ideas. But they’ll take time, and money, so I have no choice but to work slowly.
I also need a lot more small details in the other rooms, including baseboards.
And I have to dress the bed. I have the fabric I’m going to use, I just need to be motivated.
We’re heading down the final stretch.
I didn’t end up weeding yesterday. It’s allergy and sinus time and I just didn’t feel up to it. I worked on the puzzle and cleaned up my part of the studio space upstairs. It was way too cluttered and I can only stand that for so long.
Don and I are discussing the possibility of lifting the carpet in that room. We’re not crazy about it and the room would be so much better without it. But I immediately start to wonder how we can work around all the furniture in that room when we have no place to put it while we’re pulling carpet up. Two heavy desks, a large china cabinet, a big old chair, etc. This is the challenge of living in a small house. So, we’ll start with pulling up a corner to see what’s underneath. I suspect it’s plywood, but even plywood would be okay. We could paint the floors.
Today? The Adirondack chairs are coming out of the shed and the cushions are coming out of the cabinet under the stairs. If I can’t plant my pots for the porch yet, I can surely pretty up the seating area.
I’ve decided I’ll leave the blog post titles as is until either 450 or 500. Then, I’ll go back to what they were before the pandemic started.
Stay safe.
Happy Sunday.

the dollhouse decisions look and sound great. i would love a nook like that!
the studio plan to remove the carpet sounds both exhausting and exciting. best wishes on that. in the meantime, i know you’ll enjoy getting the outdoor areas ready for being out there and that’s great. one thing at a time, right?
slow start here today and even though there’s lots to do, i will take it easy. weekdays are long (gone usually twelve hours each day) and saturdays also have a lot of go-go-go. and now i can try using something rather like a large stretchy ace wrap for back support and only use that big back brace if i feel the need for it … and i can feel the difference (in good and not-so-good ways) so today will be kept pretty simple and quiet.
hope you have a good day and stay safe.

I love our porch – deeply – and cannot wait to sit out there!
Glad you’re keeping it quiet and simple today, Kathy. Take care of yourself!

That chair is amazing!
Wish we lived closer. We have a stack of unopened wood flooring in our garage just sitting. Our builder ordered more than we needed and left it for us but it seriously could fill several rooms. We pulled carpet out of our old house and we moved furniture aside, cut with a carpet knife sections and then removed those, moved the furniture to those spots that were done and kept going. It likely took a bit longer than moving everything out but it worked. I hope you find some lovely wood underneath!
Have a lovely Sunday. It rained then snowed a bit here last night so we’re going to have a cozy day at home. A busy week ahead so a quiet day is very welcoming.

Good tips, which I greatly appreciate, Chy!
Enjoy your wonderfully cozy day at home.

My allergies are worse this year so I am also avoiding the garden for now.
I love your room. So pretty! I want to curl up in that chair and sew or read.
Have a beautiful day!
Claudia says
Mine are pretty bad as well, but I can’t let them stop me for too long. I have beds yet to clear, grass to mow, and seed to sow in about a week!
Stay safe, Betsy!

I hope you find wood flooring under the carpet, not plywood.
Queen Victoria belongs in an artist’s studio…looks perfect.
It has been so cold here that we have gotten very little yard work done. Today is sunny and a little warmer but we really want to go to the state park and take a hike. They have some nice trails through the woods and along an inland lake.
I have begun to believe that this pandemic will never be truly over. Michigan is in a big surge right now and still our brand new convention center opened this weekend for a home and garden show. Yes, masks required, but too many people. I heard even though they had some attendance restrictions it was crowded. How stupid to go on with it right now. Meanwhile, at least 5 local restaurants have closed temporarily due to staff testing covid positive. We have a variant that spreads more easily. Ugh!
And my daughter got the J&J vaccine about 9 days before they paused it. She is at 14 days now so I think she is mostly in the clear but I will feel better about it in another week or two.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Claudia says
I think she needs a gold mini crown, Marilyn. I’ll be keeping my eye out for one.
It’s insane that anyone would hold a home and garden show in this deadly surge in Michigan, let alone attend it. My god, what are people thinking?
I bet your daughter is in the clear now, Marilyn. Fauci says he expects for the ‘pause’ to life this coming week.
Stay safe!

Great plan for the office…hope you can creatively find a solution. I’m sure the carpeting there is contributing to your allergies.
I over did it in the garden yesterday. So I’m being careful today, and taking breaks. I want to get certain things done….we are to get rain for the next two days.
Take it easy today…and enjoy! ;)
Claudia says
EVERYTHING seems to contribute to my allergies! Especially the great outdoors.
Be careful, Donna. I am quite familiar with overdoing it in the garden!
Stay safe.

I like your blog titles as they are; we’re still in a pandemic; it’s remarkable to sometimes think of the days.
Doll house is so wonderful.
OMG, we’re so hot today; SoCalif knew this heatwave was coming, but it’s 90 degrees just after lunch and we did have a small brush fire last night which wigged everybody out around here; water-drop/spotter helicopters back and forth over our house for a couple of hours at 10pm with that ominous orange glow in the sky; they got it out before it got any bigger; they had a huge fire-truck response with bulldozers; was so concerning because of how much hotter and drier the weather would be at sunup with this less-humid temperature, all just more fuel for fire. It’s ‘way too early to already have to be worried about wildfire; this is only APRIL for goodness sake.
We’ve always planned to pull up the old carpet that’s still in about a third of our old house; however, we have an elderly dog who’s getting more unstable on her feet; so, not only do we not need her scratching up the wood (oak) floor with its 1950s-era ‘finish’ (she’s hefty), we don’t want her slipping and sliding on a slick, bare floor when the carpet otherwise holds her more steady. When she dies, we’ll take it out. (This is a very-recent decision for us.) But we’ve had a lot of discussions how one old guy, my husband, is gonna move a large, heavy china closet (all one piece; not two pieces; more wood than glass, with drawers and cupboards) from the 1940s, an antique organ from the 1800s (when things were made so ‘solid’), a sideboard from the 1930s, etc. (That thing is SO heavy and big that, at one point in his life, my husband had a massive saltwater fish tank on top of it.)
It IS an intimidating plan/home-improvement project. I could ask my cousin’s husband (he already has a bad shoulder) and adult son to help but it’s sometimes hard to ask for help and impose on people! And we’ll probably have to have a dumpster for the old carpet which my husband can’t possibly lift, so he’ll have to cut it up in pieces in order to haul it out to the dumpster. When money is an issue in a family, and you can’t afford to hire out the work to be done; rather it’s DIY; these are dilemmas.
Every time it comes up, I say, “It would be easier to just MOVE.” We’ve got the same thing going on in a garage-level ‘home office’ or small den (tiny; add-on room) and it’s file cabinets, a massive and heavy wood desk from the 1950s; I don’t even know how my dad ever got that desk into the room in the first place; could have been as they were building the room. Anyway, I feel for you; these projects are for younger folks and many strong hands, not just two.
Claudia says
I know. That’s what gives us pause. I’m not sure what we’ll do. I guess we pull up a little bit of the carpet first.
Stay safe, Vicki!

Claudia — Yesterday I said “The Mr pulls everything and then wonders if it was a flower” I did not mean MR Sparks — I meant my Mr. Never would I be critical of Don’s weeding talents. Sorry. I think the chair looks very comfy–my kind of chair, nice high back when my head “drifts” LOL
Claudia says
Ah, but Don is the same way!I won’t let him pull weeds, nor does he even think of doing it!
xo
Stay safe!

I understand your dilemma in lifting the carpet. My living room (especially the ceiling) sorely needs painting. The logical thing would be to cover it all up and move things to the middle of the living room. But that means emptying three bookcases and three china hutches/cabinets that are filled to the brim and I can’t even begin to cope with the concept. I suspect it will wait till I one day sell the house and it is empty. That’s horrible.
Today was partial garage clean-out day. After filling the bin, a bag for charity and cleaning up the enormous bin of birdseed that I tipped over, not realizing the top wasn’t tight, I called it a day to settle in for a good read. Weekends are good!
Since I’m not a dollhouse maker/creator, I am awed by the scale. Is it one inch to a foot or a half-inch to a foot? You must have said but I don’t recall. I’m trying to picture the size of Victoria in dollhouse size and real life size! It’s good there for now and if you decide otherwise, you’ll figure it out. Meanwhile, it’s lovely with that chair.
Claudia says
My scale is 1:12 – one inch to a foot. I think 1:24 is sweet but the it’s hard to find realistic furniture – though much better if you’re pressed for space.
Thanks, Jeanie!
Stay safe!

It has been a bit since I’ve commented Claudia, although I read everyday. I for one am thrilled that you are continuing with the day count for the title. It is a reminder to me everyday that life is precious and that so many people have paid with theirs for this pandemic that is still raging. I am grateful to be vaccinated, but do not want to ever forget that it still rages on. Enjoy the lovely (mostly) weather that is on tap for the NE this week.
Claudia says
Thank you, Donna!

I’m surprised that modern piece works in the very traditional room, but I like it. The chair is perfect! Taking out the summer stuff must feel pretty hopeful. Life is seeming a little closer to back to normal around here, but we’re still mostly masked (my husband and I always are). A couple of restaurants have set up outside tents, and the road was packed with cars yesterday afternoon. I won’t miss the deaths and tragedies, but I admit I loved the lighter traffic. Stay well!
Claudia says
Modern pieces fit in well with period pieces if they’re done right. I believe most things can be made to work if you love them.
Stay safe, Nora.
