We are in the middle of a torrential rain as I write this. Wow. It’s been humid for a few days and it rained all night long, but this particular line of storms is very intense. Hopefully, on the other side of this, the humidity will drop.
More info about Cheers: one of my readers says the entire series is on Hulu. So if you’re watching it on Netflix and have Hulu, you’ll be able to keep on going. (We don’t have Hulu.) And Don’s episode is in Season 6, Episode 7: The Last Angry Mailman. Don made a couple of appearances on Frasier as well and has known Kelsey Grammer for years. They were in a couple of plays together in Los Angeles, right when Kelsey first started appearing on Cheers, and Kelsey also had a relationship with the Old Globe. Small world. I think it was Cheers – I’ll have to check that with Don – that Don was filming right after we moved in together and the guy who warmed up the audience called me to ask me questions about Don and I was speaking live on the set. Weird, but funny and that was, of course, his goal.
Both Don and I love Cheers, of course, but after watching it in this way – start to almost-finish – we’re convinced that it was at its best when Shelley Long was still on the show. She left after year number five. Another little story: I saw Shelley years ago, live, as a member of the cast of Second City in Chicago. This was before Cheers. That cast was full of people who eventually went on to SNL. I remember thinking Shelley was brilliantly funny.
Did a lot of work on the puzzle yesterday, but boy, is this one hard! (Of course I say this about every puzzle.) But it is true – this one is harder than the previous one, the Mucha. Two more puzzles (from Galaxy Puzzles) are arriving in today’s mail. One is a Van Gogh. Apparently, I’m a glutton for punishment. And the other is a beautiful vase of flowers done by an artist that I can’t remember at the moment.
I’ve been sleeping erratically this week. Last night it seemed as if I didn’t sleep at all, but I must have. It was one of those nights where you wake frequently, so it seems as if you haven’t been sleeping. In the middle of the night, I asked Don to hold me and that helped a great deal. I slept in and I’m grateful that I did. Who knows why? It’s been a momentous and tragic two weeks in this country, we’re in the middle of a pandemic, Don and I are feeling a bit restless as we hit the three-month mark in our self-isolation – all of that certainly takes its toll.
It will pass.
The rain just stopped and I can hear a tree frog in the distance. I think we’re due for more later in the morning.
Hey, I don’t have to water the seedlings today! I may have to check on them, as this rain certainly pummeled them to the ground.
Reading Maigret Defends Himself, one of the later books in the series. I’m not reading them sequentially. Today, more work on the puzzle, maybe some work on the dollhouse – we’ll see.
Stay safe.
Happy Thursday.

Watched Don last night…funny…if you remember the episode of Frasier let me know. I just did not watch tv when owned Hallmark store 80’90s…went to college 90’s and then teaching and grad school. Have started watching the shows on Netflix and Hulu…so far I like the West Wing…and Criminal Minds…Bluebloods my favorite…
The sitcom I enjoyed at first was Reba–and I did watch that show on Friday nights when I didn’t attend the students’ football games. Have a good day today…the boys and I Facetimed before 7:00, so they could run, bike, swim…
Claudia says
He was on two episodes but I can’t remember the names of the episodes.
Stay safe, Brenda.

Good for you, Brenda!

We had two days of off and on rain….and lots of humidity. I awoke to a gorgeous day, with a temp of 56, and a slight cool breeze. I hope this comes your way…I know you’d enjoy it.
I’ve been so busy in the gardens, that I haven’t even started my puzzle. I think I’m putting it off, because I fear it’s going to be difficult. My patience level isn’t very high these days.
It sounds like you’ve got plenty to keep you busy today. I’ll be picking my last patch of weeds…until they come back that is. Hopefully, the humidity and rain will pass soon. Stay safe! ;)
Claudia says
I have to weed again soon – it’s ongoing – but I’m staying in because of my allergies. Stay safe, Donna!

I loved Cheers too and agree about Shelley Long. It never felt quite the same after. I don’t have Hulu either, though I’ve considered it. Have I mentioned “Dare to be Wild” to you (if it’s still on Netflix). I’m just thinking the gardens!
Good on the puzzles. Can’t remember your current one. I’ll be starting my new one this weekend! Enjoy and stay well.
Claudia says
Current one is a New Yorker cover from the sixties “The Bookshop.” xo Stay safe!

How lovely to have Don to hold you on a restless night. XO. My old kitty has slept between my calves almost every night for 17 years and he’s a great comfort to me. Am I making this sound weird? LOL. I loved Cheers with Shelley and Coach. Woody Harrelson did a great job, tho. I always thought Kelsey Grammar was perfect and I loved Frasier on its own as a series, too, but he seems like a weird guy in real life. Aren’t we all? It poured rain here again today and I hope that will bring out more flowers. Your peonies must have loved it! Take good care of yourself and Don and thank you for carrying on here, day 90!! Mind blowing.
Claudia says
He is a nice guy, very friendly, but yes, he’s had some problems in the past. And of course, now he is a Conservative with a capital C. Don can’t believe it as it certainly isn’t what Kelsey lived or believed many years ago.
Thanks, Nora. Stay safe!

I was thinking the very same thing about Kelsey Grammar. I absolutely love him in Frasier, but, whoa on his (current) politics.
As Donnamae said, we awoke to a fantastic day today. It was in the 50’s and no humidity this morning. After the past couple of days, it is just glorious. Supposed to be nice like this through next Tues when the 90’s return. Have fun puzzling!
Claudia says
So glad you’re having lovely weather, Chris! Maybe ours will echo yours tomorrow.
Stay safe.

glad you had a nice way to fall back asleep and that you let yourself sleep in. hope you get to sleeping better soon!
glad, too, that you have some fun choices if allergies keep you indoors.
are you enjoying the maigret books the second time around (it is the second time you’re reading them, isn’t it)?
thanks for the scoop on “cheers”. hopefully i will someday see don on that and other shows!
as much as i love rain (by far my favorite kind of weather, as long as everyone is safe), i can say today’s weather was quite lovely … beautiful blue sky, a few cotton-ball clouds, nice little breeze and no need for air-conditioning because the humidity was so low. i hope the weather we had today comes your way and then sticks around for you.
my boss is following our governor by opening up common areas of the building tomorrow with no restrictions … just trusting people will do the right thing … while also talking about how they haven’t been doing the right thing since the first case of covid-19 was confirmed in iowa. i spoke my concerns and offered a couple quick ideas about doing things in stages (to which my boss got a little snippy). i will definitely continue to wear a mask and gloves, maintain a safer social distance, etc. ugh.
going to get a couple things done around here, then hope to paint for a while.
hope you all are having a nice night.
and stay safe!

Hi Claudia. We had tremendous winds and torrential rains last night. A lot of people lost power in Michigan. It cooled down today, lovely high 70’s. Good grass cutting weather. All of a sudden the wild weather has returned this evening. We have many large old trees and are they swaying. I love the sound when the wind rushes thru them. Suddenly the sky is black. Didn’t bring potted flowers up onto porch. Oh well, nature rules. We have been watching Frasier (I watch it mostly after Don goes to bed). I think our kids were fairly young when it was currently running so didn’t see all the episodes. Now I laugh out loud every night before bed. It is good for me, especially in this time of trouble. I thought I saw a character that resembled your Don (from pics on your post). Do you know which episode he was in? Thanks and keep taking care.
Claudia says
He was in two episodes. I think he was a member of one of Nigel’s group therapy gatherings and also was at the very beginning of the episode “Diane comes back.” He had a much bigger scene in that episode initially, but it was cut down in order to give the Diane story line more space. Stay safe.
penny Spencer says
Wow. I was watching the “Diane” episode last night but dozed off so I must have missed him. Will try to catch it again. Thanks.
Claudia says
He was right at the top of the show. Before Diane shows up.

Just stopping by to read… Today was dental which always seem to bring me down for a bit.
Claudia says
So sorry you had to deal with that. I’m the same way, Kelly. Stay safe!
