Day Ninety-Five

June 16, 2020 at 9:40 am by Claudia

Low-key didn’t happen yesterday. Don started a project moving large rocks found on our property to the secret garden area after he got a little over-enthusiastic with hoeing and weeding and took out one of the little wild areas that I liked. But I think he’s come up with a neat way to rectify that and it involves gorgeous, very old rocks. One thing about living where we live, there is an abundance of rocks – it’s also what makes gardening a challenge.

Anyway, I helped him with that for a couple of hours, we had some lunch, and then we went to pick up our grocery order. Then the disinfecting, which took a long time. Despite our merry “This is so easy!” as we picked up the groceries, we find disinfecting and washing and rewashing our hands stressful.

It’s done. We don’t have to shop for a while.

Newly opened in the Memorial Garden.

Today, although Don vowed to take it easy today, I’m betting there will be more rock moving. I have to weed whack. I’m awaiting a delivery from FedEx for someone’s birthday (next week.) I want to start a puzzle. I need to dust. Watering the seedlings and the porch plants will also be on the docket.

Today’s bouquet from my merry wanderer. He had to wriggle his way under a bridge in order to pick them. Lovely! Between you and me, I’m of the “Let the flowers stay where they are” mindset, but he gets such pleasure presenting these sweet bouquets to me! And I do love seeing them there in the kitchen. Or on the porch (where the stinky daisies are currently residing.)

Gosh, he’s a sweetheart. Best decision I have ever made? Don Sparks.

Stay safe.

Happy Tuesday.

sounds like “low-key” isn’t happening for you again today either! hope you both can take it easy sometime.

beautiful flowers. love that bit of pink in the coral-colored rose.

usual stuff here today, plus it’s going to be hot and humid for the next several days (before there’s a slight chance of rain to at least temporarily knock down the mugginess). i am already ready for cooler fall weather. :)

    stay safe and well.

Not ready for fall yet! When you have a garden, this time of year is everything. Even when it’s yucky and humid. I hope you’re feeling better, Kathy. Stay safe!

Can’t wait to see the results of your work in the Secret Garden!! I love using rocks in gardens. Every vacation we took I used to find a favorite rock to bring home. I remember most of them and why I chose them when I see them amidst the flowers.

We have a beautiful morning here. It was 46* this morning and is supposed to get up to 86* this aft!! 40* in a day….. crazy. And the humidity is coming to visit for a few days as well. The grass and flowers certainly look happy right now. Try not to over-do it today. I know it is hard to stay still on a lovely day. I will bet the heat and humidity will be heading your way soon, so enjoy while you can!

I think it might stay dry here – at least that’s what I read this morning. But it is getting hotter today and tomorrow, so I’m prepared for humidity to visit. Stay safe, Chris!

Your garden projects are fascinating, in fact I’ve enjoyed seeing your garden evolve again this spring/summer. I am in Spain, unable to get home to the UK so I am gardening vicariously through you, thank you for helping me get through this most trying of times.
We drove down the mountain this morning for one of our twice monthly grocery shopping trips. I usually tolerate shopping but it is anything but fun at the moment. And all the hand washing and disinfecting when we get back is exhausting. I loathe it with a passion! Anyway, time for a cup of tea I think. Thank you again Claudia and Don for helping me navigate these troubled times.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re stranded in Spain – is it due to COVID-19?

You must miss gardening, Fiona! If I’ve been even a little help, I am grateful. Stay safe!

Yes it’s due to COVID-19, there are no flights in and no flights out. Hopefully soon. We’re ok but it’s hot and I miss my home, my garden and my family. X

Oh…yes, I’m really excited to see the secret garden. And, I echo Chris’ feelings…every garden looks better with rocks. The big ones! I remember one anniversary, my parents gave us a gorgeous rock from their garden. I couldn’t think of a more perfect gift, and it’s still beautiful 30 years later, in its special spot. Yes…I’m a nerdy rock collector.

It’s hard to rest, especially when you get in the groove to get a project finished. But…rest you must, so you can charge on again another day. I putzed outside for a few hours, so now I can relax. Hope you enjoy your day! ;)

These are really big rocks, and frankly, Don has done way too much lifting so I have ordered him to stop for a day or two.

I’m resting today as my allergies are really making me feel under the weather, Donna. Stay safe.

I love wildflower bouquets! Even better when they’re picked by a loved one and presented to you.

Did you know you don’t need to disinfect your groceries? I’ve read several news articles online about it in the past month or so. Brian and I stopped wiping down all the packaging with Clorox wipes after we read about it (which I hate those things anyway, because it’s nothing but chemicals) and now just wash our hands thoroughly after grocery shopping and putting the grocery items away. And then I use 90% rubbing alcohol to disinfect my counters where the groceries were.

Yes, I’ve heard this from a couple of people. Equally, I read the same amount of studies saying you should disinfect. Both Don and I feel there’s very little chance of getting anything from our groceries, but we’re still a bit wary. I haven’t heard anything definitive from the CDC giving the all clear re packaging. We’re still debating what to do. I think everyone has to do what they feel comfortable with. Right now, we’re not completely comfortable with the idea of doing nothing. That will probably change but it hasn’t as of today.

You have been really “rocking” it — and I’ll bet it looks terrific! Now let’s hope summer stays so you can enjoy.

We worked hard at the lake this weekend — loads of raking. Plus cleaning. But we’re good to go for the summer!

Hi Claudia. Love the rose and the cute green bug hanging out. We don’t seem to have many spiders or bugs this year. Gardens are the best.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
