The hydrangeas are getting bigger. As if on cue, we have lots of rain coming up at the end of this week with thunderstorms also in the picture. That will bring down the catalpa blossoms and pummel the hydrangeas.
It always happens. So, I’m going to enjoy them standing beautifully erect while I can.
I took a little video from the porch this morning. I woke up early and went outside to listen to the birds and the bullfrog. If you’re at all interested, it’s on my Stories on Instagram. We have a lot of traffic on this road, so the best time to take any video with sound is early in the morning. I was out there around 5:30 am.
I finished the puzzle yesterday. There is one piece that is missing. You’ll find the empty space in Empire Falls. I have no idea what happened to it, whether it was already missing when Terri sent it to me, or whether I lost it here (entirely possible!) It doesn’t bother me. This was a fun one to work on and very quickly done in two afternoon sessions.
I’m not sure what I’m going to work on next. I’m leaning toward a beautiful oil painting of flowers that is part of Clementoni’s Louvre collection: The artist is Van Dael and the title of the painting is Bowl of Flowers. It’s very lush and it will be a treat to gaze upon it as it comes to life.
I have some tax stuff to do today – transmitting all our documents to our preparer in order to file an extension. I feel my anxiety rising whenever I have to deal with anything tax-related, but it must be done. Sometimes being an adult is tiring.
Don is currently buying produce from our local farm stand. Then he wants to find more big old rocks. I’ll try to take a picture today of what we’re doing outside on the edges of the Secret Garden.
Stay safe.
Happy Thursday.
jeanie says
You must have the strongest back ever with all those rocks! Be careful — it’s hard to get into a massage therapist these days!
Love the puzzle. Puzzles of books are really fun, aren’t they. I took mine to the cottage and will start it when we go up for the fourth. I was going to do it here and then decided if I’m going to be by myself for a lot of time up there, I’d best have it there! I found a couple in the cupboard up there, one of which looks like a two-year project. I may give it a try. Or maybe I’ll know where to send it!
My hydrangeas barely have buds, but they are in a quite sheltered, shady place. Yours give me something to anticipate!
Claudia says
No, I have a bad back. But we’re lifting the heavy ones together and then moving them from the woods to the secret garden by dolly and by wheelbarrow. We’re being very careful. We worked out there a bit too long today and we’re wiped out. But it’s looking good.
Stay safe, Jeanie!

My Hydrangeas are just starting to bud!! Yours look to be many weeks ahead of mine. They are worth waiting for!
The finished puzzle looks wonderful. I see several titles I have loved. Empire Falls for sure!!
It is a warm day here, but not too humid which is quite nice. The rains are supposed to start tomorrow and then be intermittent over the next 5-6 days. Maybe that will mean no watering for a few of those days.
Looking forward to seeing your pictures of the Secret Garden project. Have a great Thursday!
Claudia says
It’s getting humid here, as well. We were drenched from working outside, Chris. Stay safe!
Donnamae says
I’m envious of your hydrangeas…but I know mine will look like that soon enough. All I have are teeny buds…I also think you are several weeks ahead of us. The cold May we had must have set us back a bit more than we realized.
It’s getting hotter here, and like Chris said, rain is in our forecast all through the weekend. And…my son’s backyard wedding is Saturday. All we need is a wedding window, say two hours? Sure could use some positive thoughts, please!
I hope Don is careful moving more rocks…but, I will be curious to see the revised secret garden. Stay safe! ;)
Claudia says
We have rain in our forecast for several days, too. I will send all the positive thoughts I can in hopes that your son’s backyard wedding stays rain-free, Donna.
Don is not the only one moving rocks, I am too. We do it together and use a dolly and a wheelbarrow to move them from the woods down to the secret garden. But we’re sore. Stay safe.
Donnamae says
Don’t hurt yourself! And, thanks for the positive vibes! ;)
Chris K in Wisconsin says
Happy thoughts are heading your way!!! A WEDDING!! I hope the rain stays away and remember, if not, the day will STILL be perfect and your memories will be of everything happy. Wishing all of you a wonderful day!!!!
Donnamae says
Thank you! It will indeed be a happy day! I’ll be getting a new daughter! ;)
Claudia says
We’re sore, but we’re being careful.

Love your puzzles! The lost piece could be under the almost finished puzzle. You never know!
Claudia says
It’s not there, unfortunately! Thanks, Tana. Stay safe!

When I see hydrangeas I think of my grandmother. They are beautiful. Especially the blue ones (my favorite color). Certain flowers always bring to mind of my loved ones who aren’t here anymore. Have you seen the movie Empire Falls? Interesting. I have tried reading the book. We finally have sunshine today.
Claudia says
No, I haven’t. I think I will choose to read the book first, as 99% of the time, the book is better than the movie! Stay safe, Trina.
Kelly says
Hi Claudia, your pictures show a beautifully quiet road and your gardens are looking better than ever! Lots of lush green foliage and beautiful blooms. I am just starting on Instagram but I am going to see if I can locate and follow you so I can see more of your photos. I love them!
Funny, I am dealing with tax issues today too. The accountant e-filed the forms mid-March and my attorney got a bill today for the amount due. I dropped off the check to IRS, the one for State and one for estimated 2020 taxes, one for the accountant and the signature page for efile, all back in March! and all have cleared but the IRS check. Of course. Now I have to work with my local congress person to get some form. What a pain! I know, it sure could be worse!
Take care,
Kelly
Claudia says
Tax issues are never easy, are they? Stay safe, Kelly!
kathy in iowa says
good luck with the tax work and rock-finding/moving, claudia and don! hope you find the missing puzzle piece, too.
the hydrangeas are beautiful. hope any rain and wind you get will be soft for them.
my news for the day? despite being tired and very grumpy, i went to that big box store (i try to avoid it anyway and especially now due to the coronavirus) after work and found a three-pack of big-brand-name bleach wipes! the big containers, too … woohoo! :)
hope you all have a nice, easy night and stay safe. and if you need them, i hope you find bleach wipes, too.
kathy in iowa
Claudia says
Well, moving rocks took up all of my time yesterday so tax stuff is today.
Yay on finding the bleach wipes! Congratulations!
Stay safe.
Vicki says
That’s a lot of gorgeous hydrangea; you look like you live in a park or on a golf course (or grounds of a magnificent estate or hotel). Green, green, green.
Claudia says
It’s very green at this time of year. But we need rain and we’re going to get some over the next week. Stay safe, Vicki.
Robyn C says
Your first picture of the garden is beautiful. I love the hydrangeas. We have the same problem with our Azaleas when they come out. A bit of rain and it spoils the lot. So sad because they are usually only out for a short period of time. Am very busy at the moment making greeting cards for a special friend.
Claudia says
I have to make a card for Don, as his birthday is next week! Stay safe, Robyn.
