Day One Hundred Seven

June 28, 2020 at 10:10 am by Claudia

This puzzle is kicking my butt at the moment.

It will get better.

It rained most of the day yesterday and we are so grateful! More rain is on the docket for this afternoon; thunderstorms most likely. As I write this, Don is preparing to do some work outside, hoping to get some time in before the rain comes. Right now, it’s sunny and a bit humid.

We watched the documentary on James Baldwin, I Am Not Your Negro  last night. It’s available on Netflix. It’s so powerful. It also tells me that American hasn’t progressed much since the time he speaks of most often, the sixties and seventies. And that is heartbreaking. I recommend it highly. It has sparked a lot of conversation around here and will continue to do so.

I’m completely into Where the Crawdad Sings  now. I just need to give it some time. I’ll share more of my thoughts when I’ve finished it – I’m about half-way through.

Since I am now a one video veteran of IGTV, I did one this morning on Hummingbird Cottage. I’ve found that using my iPhone to take a video allows for more detail. (It also shows me everything I would do differently in the future!) Anyway, it’s a bit longer than yesterday’s video, but I hope you like it. Everyone loves the dollhouse posts, so I thought it would be fun to do one now, several years after I completed the house. You can find it on Instagram. If you don’t do IG, go to my sidebar and scroll down to the Instagram widget. You can click on the latest post (the video tour) there.

I’m going to work on the the English Cottage today. I need to get back to work on those darned stones.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

I recorded I Am Not Your Negro a few weeks ago and haven’t watched it yet, but I will now, for sure. (If we can tear ourselves away from six seasons of A Place to Call Home, our nightly mindless diversion.)
That puzzle does look like a challenge! So many pieces with the same colorations. Just looking for the shapes would be hard for me.

I loved your video tour of Hummingbird Cottage. All the detail you’ve put into the decorating of the cottage is outstanding. I could move into Hummingbird Cottage in a second!

So, I can pull up your i/g and look at the photos (all that gorgeous-green surroundings!) but, try as I may and not belonging/subscribing to i/g, I can’t watch your video tours (and of course I’m despairing over that). It just won’t let me proceed. I tried your ‘buttons’ atop the page and on the side of the page, but no go.

    Darn, darn, DARN.

Well, you could easily subscribe to IG and you’d be able to see it. You don’t have to post. A lot of people subscribe and never post.

Loved “walking with you” on IG yesterday. That was a nice surprise to find there. And you have such a lovely voice. Today I’ll look for the Hummingbird Cottage story.

I just found out our block will be cordoned off on the 4th and all the neighborhood children will hold a parade of decorated bicycles. How nice it will be to sit on the front lawn and cheer them on. We got new neighbors 2 weeks ago on our right with 4 daughters age 9 and under! Together with the neighbors on our immediate left and on the right and left kitty-corner houses across the street, our house is now the epicenter of 12 children all 9 and under. I feel like the neighborhood granny and, until it happens for real in our family, it’ll do nicely. Having only grown up with brothers and raising only sons, I wasn’t aware that very little girls scream. All the time. Dean finds it disconcerting, but I’m getting used to it. If it wasn’t for the pandemic, I’d be passing out freshly baked cookies daily. :-)

Glad your cars are working again. Holding my breath for Don’s senior citizen, as I do daily for mine, which was Dean’s for 18 yrs.

    Take care,
    Kay

Oh, Kay, little girls are screamers. And they cry. And pout. A lot. The drama starts early.

I had to wait 70 years for my own Grandma journey to begin, I hope yours starts as soon as everyone is ready!! Even in the time of Covid, it is a pretty amazing journey!

glad you’re liking the “crawdads” book better now. i don’t have a long enough attention span to do much reading right now. or maybe i just haven’t found the right book yet (a reason i like and appreciate when you ask “what are you reading now?” … everyone describes such varied and interesting books!). for whatever reason, it’s been a long time since i’ve done much reading and that makes me sad. maybe someday …

that puzzle does look challenging, but you’ll get it! and if it’s of a van gogh, it will be beautiful.

did you and don decide to frame that other puzzle?

your video of the dollhouse is great. i am so impressed by all those details being done so well and so small!

had a (safely socially distanced) lunch with some members of my family today. my sister made “blt” sandwiches (no b for her or me). we had a nice visit … and i could see them, which is very comforting to me. and now i am home, showered and hope to do some watercolor painting.

hope you all have a nice afternoon and evening. stay safe!

Eventually we’ll frame it, but it’s wrapped in a towel and under our bed at the moment!

Glad you got to see some family today! Stay safe, Kathy.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
