Day One Hundred Thirty-Five

July 26, 2020 at 9:14 am by Claudia

The first zinnia. Always a cheerful sight!

Well. I mowed yesterday morning. I started early – at 10 am – and much to my surprise it was unbelievably hot and humid already, though our heat warnings were for today and tomorrow, not yesterday. I did all of the larger part of the front lawn, up around the side of the house, and into the Secret Garden. But I don’t mind telling you that I was completely fried by the time I finished. It was just too humid, but once I had mowed about 2/3 of it, I wanted to finish. I didn’t touch the other side of the lawn or the corral or any other part of the property. I’m glad I did it because the grass was very high due to the heavy rains we had this week. But I’m taking the day off today. I’d already planned to, as we are getting what some of you got yesterday, extremely high temps and humidity.

All I planned on doing outside today was some watering, but Don is bugging me to take a quick head shot for a casting website. To be honest, it’s the last thing I want to do this morning but he’s got a bee in his bonnet about the whole thing. He wants it taken outdoors. He tried to tempt me by saying “Don’t you have to go outside to take a picture for your blog post?” (I did that yesterday, thank you very much!)

I’m well versed in his wiles, which are pretty effective, I must say. He’s a charmer.

So of course, I succumbed.

Once the photo is taken (let’s hope it turns out okay) I am staying in for the rest of the day. I’m already sweating and it’s 9 am. Time to turn on the a/c.

I think it’s a day to read a good book and stay cool, don’t you?

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

I agree about staying in today. I was outside most of the day yesterday. Perfect weather to work in as it was sunny, then cloudy, then sunny but only 18 C – I’m in Canada, so no idea what that equates to for you. It was breezy, so laying down cedar mulch and staining decks was not too hot and I got more done than I thought I would.

But starting today, we’re looking at high 20’s and low 30’s for the next week. Husband and grandson on a film shoot today, so I think I’ll do some work in the studio, finish the laundry and read Mary Trump’s book. Hope your day goes well and the photo turns out well.

    Stay cool!

    X Chy

Yes, too hot to do anything else. Quite right! Fascinating look at the flower’s beginnings.
Oh, that clever Don. He’s a corker, alright. ;-)
Have a good one indoors. XO

I just got back from an emergency run to the pharmacy (I was the only person there, thank goodness) and boy, is it humid here! Rained hard this morning for about 15 minutes and the clouds are still dark and thick. I may go for a swim but pay heed to thunder sounds. So far, none but you never know. At least there is a breeze so there is a sense of balminess to it. I’m reading Donna Leon #3 now, then back to the Grantchester books or maybe Ann Patchett.

    A good day to paint!

you two are so cute! you make me smile. :D

I live in a VERY HOT and humid climate that always makes me LONG FOR AUTUMN!
I’ve never thought of upstate NY (my mother was from the Thousand Islands area)
and where I’ve spent many years of my life… and always LOVED the summers there…
I’d just never thought of it being excessively hot and humid for very long generally.
but NOW you’re having our OWN summer temps! or at least very similar to ours.
just the times we live in these days with the “Hoax” of global warming doncha know!
the difference is that you still have WONDERFUL rain!
I hope you don’t have the ‘tornado season’ eventually as well.
that is something I wouldn’t wish on anybody!
be careful dear bean. and STAY COOL!!! xoxo

Michigan was hot and humid when I was a kid. So has every city (except San Diego) that I’ve ever lived in! Though it does seem to be getting worse. We get tornados occasionally but nothing like you do. Stay safe, Tammy!

This weather is crazy! So hot and humid. We have had so many days of over 90* already, and it isn’t even August. Today is supposed to be the last of the Heat Warnings with heat indexes of over 100* for a while. In fact, we are supposed to have a week of temps in the low to mid 80’s. Wouldn’t that be glorious?? I hope they are correct! One day at a time, I guess, is the best way to take it these days……. with just about everything.

Have a restful day and stay cool!

Tomorrow here: high of 97 which means the heat index will be way over 100!

I think it will cool down on Tuesday.

      Stay safe, Chris!

agree … after all your hard work mowing in high heat and humidity yesterday, today sounds like a very good day for you to stay indoors and read! hope that’s what you’ve been doing.

considering all the beautiful photos you share with us and that you worked with a well-known and much-loved subject, i am sure your photos of don turned out great. best wishes and prayers for work. before stage/screen work and coaching return, could voice-work for animations/ commercials/etc. and recording music be a possibility? hope so.

i am very sad that it had to be from a distance, but grateful and happy to spend time with some family members today.

also, when i was in my car (having a socially-distanced visit and lunch with those family members) today, it rained for maybe 30 minutes and i loved it.

am home now, chores are done and i am taking it easy. hope you and everyone else here can say the same thing.

hope you have a nice night.

I don’t know what the voice-over industry is doing but that work will go to those who are already well established as voice over people – to the ones who have studios in their homes.

Glad you’re taking it easy, Kathy, and that you got to see your family.

      Stay safe!

It’s very hot and humid here today, too – 106 with the heat index! I was just outside for a little while, taking butterfly videos, picking tomatoes and refreshing the bird bath. It actually doesn’t feel like 106 because there’s a breeze, albeit a very hot one.

We haven’t had to mow often lately because it’s so dry here. The grass is turning brown and crispy. We desperately need rain. We might get some storms overnight and we’re hoping so.

We have central AC so it stays on pretty much 24/7 in the summer except for those rare days when it’s in the 70’s.

Hope you get some rain. Until this past week we were very rain-deprived.

We start out every day with the windows open and no a/c. We usually hold off until 11 or so. But this morning, it was on at 9 am.

      Stay safe, Melanie!

I have had one interesting week myself. Long story shortened, a cousin of mine who was ‘illegitimate’ (unknown to me for the first 30 years of my life) and given up for adoption in the 1930s, finally, in the last months of his life (terminal cancer), he ‘spit in the cup’ with ancestry.com and DNA has told him the name and identity of his biological father (and that he had a half-sister!) after wondering and being deeply affected about all of his biological/adoptive heritage his ENTIRE life. I contributed to some other missing blanks for his descendants, as I know a lot about my family tree, and I am just so glad that this man can know about his full identity, at age 84, as he ends his life, with perhaps a calm about everything which has been denied him. My tears have been flowing for three days (with all the correspondence going back and forth on email); for once, not about Covid. Although of course our Covid statistics in Calif where I live are enough to make any of us cry at any given moment.

The past two days have been a killer. I cannot imagine mowing when it’s this bad. Weather app said today it “felt like” 100 degrees. Torrential rains fell early this evening and now the temp has fallen 20 degrees but the high humidity has hung around. Stayed in all weekend and finished Mary Trump’s book. Have had it a week but could only take it in small doses. What a depressing, depraved family he comes from!!

My eye exam on Friday that I stressed about so much turned out to be ok. Particularly the looking for new frames part. I had one-on-one help trying them with no one else allowed in the area. Every frame I touched went into a basket to be sanitized. More and more businesses here north of Milwaukee are requiring masks so I no longer run into people without them at the grocery anymore. What a relief.

Can’t believe we’re almost to August. The young parents in our neighborhood say there are still no plans for whether or not school is opening in about a month. Unbelievable.

    Take care.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
