Caroline is working on a dollhouse.
I guess she works like I do; stares at it a long time, sometimes for weeks, and then she starts in.
Interestingly, she hasn’t come to me for any advice and I’m right here. Again, rather like me. I’m always determined to figure it out all by myself. Does she know where to get wallpaper? Does she know how to lay floors? What order in which to do things?
Of course, she does have her laptop over on the desk. Surely she could sneak in a visit to this blog where I have a list of sources and a lot of helpful information. I mean, I wouldn’t see her do that, so her pride would remain intact.
I know all this because she is away again. As I said on IG; why is she traveling during this pandemic? She asked me to water her plants up on the roof and feed the dog and take in the mail. So, you know how it is…when I was younger and my neighbors asked me to take in their mail and keep an eye on their house, I would walk through the house and look at the decor because I’ve always been interested in houses and how people live in them.
Ditto with Caroline’s house. I took a little tour and, much to my surprise, there was a dollhouse sitting on her work table. A rather nice one.
Do you think I might have inspired her in some way?
I’m a wee bit jealous, as I have to share my work space with Don. Caroline has her own office/studio.
I guess I’ll just wait for another opportunity to peek inside, maybe after a month or so, to see what she’s done so far. But I have to be very careful about that because Caroline craves privacy.
I’ll report back when I know more.

Mowing this morning and I have to get going before it gets too hot and humid.
The mini dollhouse was a gift from Barbara.
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.
kathy in iowa says
love that. :)
your description of you and caroline works for me, too, at most things (i do know what i don’t know … what i need help with). caroline is fortunate that she has such a kind, knowledgeable and talented helper nearby. :)
hope you get the mowing done before the heat and humidity gets to be too much. and that you and don are both feeling 100% better.
typical saturday here … grocery shopping, a very safely distanced lunch with some of my family and then home. it’s supposed to reach the mid-90s here with high humidity making it feel like 105 (ugh) so i will be indoors. good time to paint and hopefully write. a nap might happen, too.
hope you, don and everyone else here have a nice, easy and safe day! and keep cool!

I mowed, but it was horrible out there, much hotter and more humid than I thought it was. At 10 am.
Stay safe, Kathy.
Tana says
Does Caroline ever take a get-away to the other houses in the “neighborhood”? Spending a weekend away at Don’s place would seem to be just the thing. Especially if she is musical. Have a wonderful weekend you two!! Stay safe and healthy!
Claudia says
She can’t stay at Don’s place without me being there, Tana! I wouldn’t permit it!
Stay safe.
Shanna says
Really cute…but that tinier-than-tiny dollhouse (and possible furnishings!) are threatening a panic attack in me! Happy Saturday!
Claudia says
It will be interesting to watch Caroline’s progress!
Stay safe, Shanna.

I have always loved driving at night when you can get a peek inside houses that are lit up! My dad was a realtor, and we would often tag along with him on weekends when he’d attend Open Houses for clients. So much fun to see 10 houses in a day. I loved to see how everyone would decorate too and often would dream of how I would buy one of the houses and make big changes! And look what happened!
That tiny dollhouse is amazing. Please ask Barbara if she can share where she found it!
Hope your mowing goes well. We finally have a sunny day and I’m hoping to finish staining the deck, the veranda and our tiny deck that the greenhouse will go on.
Happy Saturday!
X Chy

I used to walk for miles in Philadelphia, Boston and Cambridge in the early evening. I got a glimpse of the interiors of wonderful houses.
Stay safe, Chy!

Thanks for the peek into Caroline’s world! It was fun.
Claudia says
You’re most welcome! Stay safe, Jane.

Imagine traipsing off like that! Glad you are there to keep an eye on things.
Hope you two have a good day. Be careful mowing…it’s a beastly one out there today! ;)
Chris K in Wisconsin says
Donnamae, I keep meaning to ask if your Hydrangeas have buds setting on them yet? I was so worried that I wasn’t going to have any this year, but about 10 days ago I started to see the teeny buds forming. They are starting to bloom now, so I am very happy, indeed!! It just seemed so late to me this year. It really is horrid out there today!!
Donnamae says
Hi! I did get buds on all but two of my limelight’s. It seems really late this year. But…I still have hope. Miserable today! Sounds like rain and storms tomorrow…then some relief. Glad to hear your hydrangeas have buds/flowers! ;)
Claudia says
It isn’t as bad here as it is there – that will be tomorrow. Nevertheless, it was much more humid than I expected at 10 am and I’m exhausted!
Stay safe, Donna!
Chris K in Wisconsin says
Oh, that Caroline!! Indeed, what is she doing traveling right now? Be sure that she quarantines when she finds her way home again. Don’t want anyone in the ‘hood getting sick. Some people…..
And that tiny dollhouse ~ oh, my!!!! She has her work cut out for her now. Maybe that is what she is doing on her trip ~ searching for household items for her new endeavor!!
Claudia says
I will insist that she quarantine, Chris. And that she wear a mask!
Stay safe, Chris!
jeanie says
At the risk of being late to the party, is Caroline a real person or an imaginary friend? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of her before!
But I do love Barbara’s house!
Claudia says
Yes, you are late to the party but that’s okay. I frequently refer to Caroline, who is the resident and owner of Hummingbird Cottage.
It also happens to be my middle name and my grandmother’s first name.
Stay safe, Jeanie.
Kathleen in N. Illinois says
Jeanie, for a sec. I was baffled as well. Then……. lightbulb!
You know that weird weird moment when your brain catches up to your eyeballs?
Well that’s essentially my baseline. Welcome!!
It has occurred to me that I should just have the phrase “Wait, what?”tattooed on my forehead. Of course that was beforetimes. Maybe now I’ll stitch it onto face masks. Hmmm
Sorry, the Tangential Tour bus just hit another switchback.
Anyhow-Caroline is
(assuming you’re willing to accept the confines of this reality)

Claudia, what a wonderful post! We are in trying times here, and the “mini vacation” via your blog and IG videos are like a refreshing drink on a hot day. Looking forward to tales of Caroline and her dollhouse! Thank you for the reprieve.
Stay well and stay safe!
Claudia says
You’re welcome. It helps me, too, because goodness knows, I need a reprieve, too.
Stay safe, Kimberly!
Jenny says
You (and Caroline) should definitely decorate that little dollhouse! Talk about a challenge!
Claudia says
Maybe a bit of wallpaper, but I don’t know where Caroline will find furniture that tiny!
Stay safe, Jenny.
Vicki says
Ah, Claudia, such a sweet post today; I enjoyed reading it!
Claudia says
Thank you, Vicki! Stay safe!
Verna Stapleton says
Well Claudia, I opened this post and went “what part of their house is that?” Hahahhaha. This was a great post.
Glad Don is feeling better.

How wonderful!! I think Caroline might be taking a little shopping trip for tiny dollhouse pieces at the flea market in Paris…She’s canny! I love the little dollhouse–so stylish!
Claudia says
She does love Paris, Nora!
Stay safe!
Maureen Nigro says
Love love love the mini dollhouse and I love when you talk about Caroline. It takes me away from the bad in the world and the interesting (but not great) things that are happening in my world right now.
Thank you for the lovely distraction.
