Day Three Hundred Eighteen

January 25, 2021 at 10:31 am by Claudia

Cold. Very cold. Sunny. Snow tomorrow. But it doesn’t look like we’ll get a lot, just a few inches which is perfect.

Sleepless night. I have no idea why. I wasn’t worrying about anything. It was just one of those things that happen. Luckily, I don’t have to be anywhere, to coach, to have my wits about me, so I’m just going to go with the flow.

The last of my mini orders (for the time being) arrived the other day. These are from an Etsy shop called Mini My Eye. I purchased something from this shop when I was decorating Don’s mini studio. The owner uses postage stamps as artwork. And she has a wonderful variety of stock.

This is called “Les Muses,” painted by Maurice Denis in 1893.

This is a Japanese painting, “Kimono with Iris Pattern” by Saburosuke, painted in 1927.

Gorgeous. I’m not sure where I’ll end up placing them. To be determined.

The frames are a bit more gold than the photos indicate.

I’m going to putz around in the studio today. I have to sand the spackle that I added. And then I have to figure out what paint I want to use on the portion of the wall that isn’t wallpapered, then wallpaper, but that will probably won’t happen for a couple of days.

And I have to do some straightening up. If it gets too cluttered up there, it drives me a little nuts.

We watched PBS again last night. We love All Creatures Great and Small. Excellent! Everyone is pitch perfect, as is the setting and the costume design. Not as crazy about Miss Scarlett and the Duke. It’s okay. We’ll certainly watch it, but it’s not as well acted, nor as well written. For example, we couldn’t believe that Miss Scarlett couldn’t figure out that the bad guy was wearing a fake beard in the first episode. We sure could – we saw that coming a mile away. Anyway, the set and costume details are wonderful. It’s Mystery-lite, which is just fine.

Don just ran to the grocery store to pick up a few things. Oh, speaking of Don, he just put up a link to another of his songs. This one has always been one of my favorites. Here is the link to his post on FB, which will have a link to the song. It’s the first post on the page. The song is Guess I Still Get Crazy.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

That artwork is fabulous! It’s awfully cold here the past few days, but no wind which helps with the comfort/discomfort level. My cats are loving the sun patches, a nice change from sleeping on the heater vents. I’m coming down off my inauguration high which isn’t bad, but more of a feeling of normal, not manic/not depressive, an almost forgotten feeling. Stay safe!

Yes, the lack of wind is helping. So happy to hear you’re feeling more calm, Nora.

I didn’t sleep well last night either but I’m sure it was because I ate sugar right before I went to bed.
I binge watched All Creatures and now I’m disappointed it’s done.
Have you watched Call the Midwife? I believe it’s on PBS. All Creatures reminds me of it in some ways. Give it a try if you haven’t watched it.
Tell Don he has a fan in Michigan.

We never watched it, but we may try it in the future, Marilyn.

I’ll be sure to tell Don!

      Stay safe.

beautiful choices! what a clever idea to use stamps as art in dollhouses. they are, of course, works of art all by themselves … as are the settings in which you’ll place them!

glad at least one of the two tv series is to your liking. i liked the herriot books a lot (read once eons ago).

thanks for the link and thanks, don, for the songs. one recent saturday morning, after i first heard this song, i was in the kitchen and caught myself humming (something i do not often do and it was assuredly off-key) a tune and then realized it was one of don’s songs. :)

hope you have fun puttering around and dollhouse-keeping today and sleep better tonight. and get just the right amount of snow.

we are forecast to get eight to twelve inches of snow today (they keep raising the totals, ugh) and possibly freezing drizzle ahead of the snow, all to start in a couple hours. i’m at work and will definitely leave before then. think i got four hours of sleep last night. not really sure why i didn’t sleep well. can a person be too tired to sleep? if so, that’s me lately. when i get home, i will have to try very hard to not take a nap! maybe i will do some gentle puttering and knit a few rows on a hat. as much as i love knitting, to try to lengthen my attention span, i chose to insert a bunch of ribbing all over this hat (which requires a lot of counting for me) and now i am over it. ready for some pay-no-attention knitting. :)

best i get on to other things.

stay safe in every way and i hope you all have a happy monday!

I think yes, a person can sometimes be too tired to sleep. I know it’s happened to me.

I hope you got home early today and are settling in for a cozy evening, Kathy.

The miniature artwork is fabulous, what a great idea to use postage stamps! Weather is very cold here too, there was snow and freezing fog on my walk to work today.
All Creatures Great and Small was shown here just before Christmas. I’ve visited the village of Grassington where it was filmed many times as it’s only about 40 miles away. It’s great how they have recreated the 1930s there as most of the shops are normally lovely gift shops or cafes!
I also like how they’ve kept the original theme tune.

    Happy Monday

It’s such a lovely village, Dee Dee! Yes, I’ve seen lots of photos of snow from England during the past few days. Be careful!

      And stay safe.

Love the artwork. I am having a fibro flare so still in the bed. Ugh. Learning to live with this is not easy but I’m hanging in there. Thank goodness I have such a great therapist to help me and that we are able to do online sessions. So its a day of rest and hoping tomorrow is a better day. I love hearing Don’s new songs and so glad I follow him on FB.

I enjoy many of the PBS shows and agree with you about “All Creatures Great and Small”. It is well done and I really loved that series of books when I read it years ago. “Miss Scarlet…” is okay but there is something off about the chemistry between her and the Duke. The investigations are not always very believable to me either.
How nice that you are getting more time to work on your miniatures. It is a nice way to pass the time on some of these cold, gray days. I have been cleaning out dresser drawers!
    Enjoy your day!

I agree about Miss Scarlet. It’s like they’re trying to wed a murder mystery with a Harlequin romance.

      Thanks so much, Ellen.

No, you’re rude because Claudia shared a personal detail about a sleepless night and you used it to try and score a political point.

You are so right! I did try to score a political point. A very scary point at that. It is for me anyway, and should be considered frightful for all of us living in America. This could cause anyone a sleepless night!!!!!!

Thank you, Dee Dee. Bonnie left a comment a few months back that was full of right wing conspiracy theories and I asked her to move on. I assumed she did. But she’s back and a truly sad case.

Terrific art and a clever idea, using the stamps. Can’t wait to see them “on the walls!”

I like Miss Scarlet but I agree, it’s mystery light… the kind of mystery you can watch while you are multitasking (I was needlefelting) and not lose track. And you’re right about that beard! I finished all of Criminal UK and felt sad to be leaving the interview room. I think every parent should watch it — they’d learn a lot about dealing with their recalcitrant children in search of a confession, but I love that they don’t always win.

I’m just counting the days till “Call the Midwife is back in March. The earlier episodes are on Netflix and you don’t need to watch them in order — all are self-contained — but the relationships and characters evolve over time so it’s worth it. It’s worth it just for the writing and Vanessa Redgrave’s narration at the end! Since I’m not into “birthing babies,” I didn’t know if I’d connect to it, but it’s about far more than that.

I got my first jab today. Yay! Rick, meanwhile, is locked in bureaucratic hell having made a goof on the first filling out of forms so I think it will be quite a bit more time till he gets his, which just puts our time distancing apart. It’s so darned hard at times. I have to believe it will pass…

Oh how I loved those brief days of Escape to Margaritaville onstage. All of the new adventures, and always especially the secret garden Don had discovered right there in Manhattan close to his apartment. I wanted it to last for you two for a long, long time. But it was a TERRIFIC time while it lasted! And it included your wonderful trip in NOLA, Claudia; I’ve gone back in the blog before, to look again at your special photos of all the colorful house paints and the architecture, most all of which I’d missed when I was there for too much of a short time and so many years ago now (for instance, the blue porch ceilings!). And you had so much fun when Don was in San Diego with the production, on the beach, then up the coast and your trip by van back across the States as you made your way home East. I loved it all and felt like I was right there with you guys! It had been really nice of you to share so much of those nice times with your readers.

We were so disappointed when it ended much too soon, but we talk about the whole experience fondly and realize how lucky we were to have it. Don loved every second of it and he’s nothing by grateful, as am I. Thanks, Vicki.

And on top of that wonderful cross-country trip you shared with us, that is when you happened upon the shop where you found Stella, isn’t it?? Memories are the best!!

Your comment of: It’s like they’re trying to wed a murder mystery with a Harlequin romance regarding Miss Scarlet was quite spot on. But we are loving ACG&S so very very much.

My hubs 86 yo sister got the call today to get her 1st shot tomorrow. They also scheduled her 2nd one. We are only 25 miles away from Madison (where she lives), and there is still none available in our community. None of it makes a lot of sense. I am just thankful everytime I hear of ANYONE getting their shot. Each one makes me feel like we are getting closer.

Thanks for blocking another wacko. Take care.

      Stay safe, Chris.
